In my defense, I never spied on anyone for anyone else. Igloo asked for troops and I gave some troops. I never visited that site (you know what I mean) after taking over because I wasn't sure where I was going to go with this country.

If you say you haven't spied for anyone, then I certainly trust you on that. However, you have departed from the LAoD (and for that matter have traded with the enemy prior to departing) prior to the agreed departure date.

RB, could you update the status page to reflect that I (and the rest of the LAoD) have declared war on VRWC?

And BCLG, I frankly have no idea how the defensive pact that automatically triggered a declaration of war from you affects our 5-turn notice agreement. I'm working under the assumption that it is a de facto 5-turn notice, but doesn't null it out entirely.

I would actually have to agree here. Declaring war Civ A who has a Defensive Pact in-game with Civ B would nullify any deals or arrangements made with Civ B, as that triggers the instant war declaration. So therefore BCLG would not be bound by the 5-turn agreement, as the triggering of the Defensive Pact would override it and he is free to do as he pleases.

Boy, if that's all it took to get around the 5-turn notification deal, I'd have signed one with the Schizos way back when and then it wouldn't have mattered if they'd been LAoD or not.

I would disagree with this. The deal you had with the LAOD was before you enacted a defensive pact with Agent, and therefore supersedes that in game device.

I think it is much more important to uphold our out-of-game treaties. IMHO, using the defensive pact to attack right now is just using a loophole to get around something in our meta-game.

Thus, the honorable thing to do is to honor your agreement with the LAOD. I think that at the absolute minimum, the defensive pact could be construed to be giving your 5 turn notice NOW and that any action in the next 5 turns would be you assisted in the defense of any Agent-owned Square.

I think so far we've all abided by our treaties and I would hate to see the game break down RIGHT NOW because of a loophole.

I wonder if it is possible to get an impartial ruling - obviously I can't be impartial on this, everyone else in the game has a stake in it, and doing a straight vote isn't fair either.

I would propose that RaisanBran make the decision, because out of anyone involved in this game, I think he'd be the most impartial.

Saying that, I feel pretty impartial here as well (I wasn't a parliamentarian for nothing in college). It appears to me that we had a system of meta-treaties set up outside the games mechanisms prior to defensive pacts being an option, therefore I would assume that meta-treaties would take precedence over in-game treaties in this regard.

For example, had BCLG and Agent posted a Meta-Game treaty announcing a "defensive pact" then the act of declaring war on Agent would trigger the pact and nullify the LAOD treaty (as the LAOD invaded). I view it as a state law being trumped by a federal law.

If this defensive pact was broadcasted prior to LAOD's attack in this thread, then BCLG should be permitted to act as he wishes.

To be honest I don't care, my troops are on BCLG's border anyways and they are itching for a fight. If he wants war then he'll after to battle through 'em so lets see if he has the stomach for it.

I've asked in the Civ3DuelZone (leaving out the names, though as BCLG and I both are semi-regulars in there they could probably figure it out quick enough if they wanted to).

My apologies i didnt make this clear enough, i still plan on honouring the 5 turn treaty however i was merely trying to say that it'd have been nice to have this notification via PM/ingame message/etc and the like just incase i hadnt checked the thread

I think we could say that from this point forward, just announce all in-game treaties in this thread as a point of reference.
