Lol, CS you have a 17 digit steam ID. Identity verification will be problematic, no?

That's what steam gave me, hasn't been an issues with steam or the Steam API we use to get player account data.....

So, wait, when you host a league game how would you check a player's account? Wouldn't work quite like it did in Civ 4 right?

Because Steam lets players change their display names this is a bit of a pain(at least until we make a auto report mod). You will have to add the people you have in the game to your friends list, that will let you see their steam profile url, and that you can use to see if they are league or not. It might even mean using a site like this http://steamidfinder.com/ to look up their Steam ID and see who they are on the league.

When I try to go to the new league page I get a 403 Access Denied page instead.
This was also happening for the last few months on the civ4 league. Is there anything that you can do to help out with this problem?

We are looking at that issue, but it might be a DNS issue or perhaps something with Hostgator.

Yeah, that's basically what my original point was. I don't think people will be able to remember some 17 digit code so they have to do it through friending which will get really tedious.

Yes there are many good things about steam, but I really don't like them letting players change thier display names with no way of seeing their real account name.

But not much we can do about that, so we have to adapt as best we can.

Well, traditionally if you played a serious/competitive MP game on steam you'd use ventrilo and a private server. Pubbing in Civ is going to be weird though because quitting and joining is not really the same thing as it is for an FPS.

Well unfortunately, 2K is not giving us the ability to have private servers(not to mention Civ is a p2p game not a Server-client)so we will have to just do the best with what we have for tools.

you kidding me right?

is this official??
it would really sux

Well look at the manual, if it is not mentioned in the manual it is not being offered, 2K is not going to actually say they took out this and that, but they are not going to put stuff in the manual that they didn't include.

So there is a MP/Steam section and a LAN section, so that is all we get for now. Pitboss, hotseat and PBEM will come later as stated by Greg weeks ago.

And you don't see the word "server" anywere in the manual. Firaxis has never in it's history has produced a S/C game they have all been p2p, so if they were going to make a major change like that you would think they would be proud to splash that all over the reviews....and they have not, so read between the lines here guys.

well "steam" doesnt mean server?

a normal game on steam on other games isnt supposed to use proprietary steam servers?
