CIVplomacy in the Ten Tribes

This is kind of a boring answer, but it looks to me like they're not too different from each other. More units in the second run, more techs in the first (it may not seem like the first has that much more tech, but both Philosophy and Drama & Poetry are something like 5 times as many beakers as the 2nd column techs). And if "the key" to the second one is to sell your luxuries early, then you can do that in the first one too. Both of them seem like they could lead to a game with lots of open options and pathways to victory. If this were my game on my own computer I'd probably take the 1st option hands-down, but the Mayans here could live with either.

EDIT: Jehoshua's sounded like a command to me at first...but I guess it is a Call to vote.

Yahzuk: I vote in advance for next session, assuming neither Jehoshua nor Devil is attacked, because I might be away for the next couple days:

Yes to queueing Tradition
No to queueing Worker
OOC: I'm sorry, I didn't explain that in the first one, but I also sold a luxury and horses
Also, in the second one I was researching IW at turn 70, with all that army ready to take another city, and with a good gpt and faith
I was 13 away from researching anything on that column (Drama and Poetry, philosophy or IW) BUT ONLY BECAUSE the Shrines do not produce 2 Science, but plus 4 science those 13 turns would reduce to 10 or something, AND having those plus 2 science at the time I built the Shrines would have given me Iron Working before
Besides, I will have 6 more science in 10 turns when I finish the libraries
I think is completely better the second one... I wanna hear opinions

The Second Council of the Mayans has now ended.
Council Session Results
  • Resolution 1: Build Pyramid in Palenque as soon as available is passed 7 to 0.
  • Writing is added to the research queue (3)
  • Vote Called: " Queue the social policy tradition as our first social policy"
Rules Clarification: From now on, please either state "Command" or "Call for Vote".
(Jehoshua's wording was definitely confusing - I had originally written it down as a command until I saw the discussion on it and reread it a few times.)

Rules Clarifcatiion: Probably wasn't clear before, but I will allow you to give units orders while under construction.
(Giving units orders is not an urgent matter that triggers a council session - if you don't give a unit orders while under construction, they will rest after completion until they get orders during the next council session - whenever that happens to be)

Ceskari visited in-laws after the second council. What a trip. He may not rise up to meet the challenge in the third council so soon. Mother-in-law was howver surprisingly clever - she was spinning a flat disk on the ground in order to make thread out of some plant fibers. She was lifting the bundle of fibers and they made a kind of shape of a bowl... This may be worth investigating.

I know I made the wording confusing, there was a reason for that, namely that ambiguity of intent provided for a potential benefit in terms of people accepting a percieved command, or protection in the case that someone attacked me because of a "false interpretation of my words"/

I vote YES on Jehoshua resolution

I vote YES on the resolution to queue tradition. (to hasten other policies down the line, like honour or the one man, one vote system)

Wow! I can't believe we forgot to queue orders for our Scout! So on second thought, thanks for calling the vote, Jehoshua :).

I command our Scout-in-training: explore to reveal all lands in a 5-hex radius around our northern Sugar resource.

That's so we scout potential expansion locations and close enemies before sending him in a straight line west, or wherever.

Suggestions for other actions this round, for those with the bandwidth:

1) Change Warrior's Explore action. It looks like the south is mountainous and probably coastal, so exploring east might be a better use of time.

2) Tell the Scout what to do if he encounters barbarians. "Run the hell away" is what I was thinking, but you could paraphrase :).

(And My vote is still YES on Tradition-queueing.)

Fair enough. Feel free to continue to confuse the masses on the thread, but follow it up with a PM that specifies if its a command or call to vote.

As he headed back to his palapa, he saw the other Elders excited of this idea of his, discussing with smiles, some waving arms, and that satisfied him. He finally reached his bed and he happily slept and happily rested.

The next day he woke up late, and just laid there, thinking of what the Empire had to do to start developing the most efficient way possible. He simulated different options and scenarios, after all, his dreams weren't much different of his reasoning.

He then went to the town, where the Elders spend the time discussing and chatting, and he explained his ideas, although nobody seemed to pay attention.
He said to himself: " Maybe if I ask the vote of the Elders on a specific action they will listen and tell me their opinions, AND PAY ATTENTION for Hunab Kú sake! "

So he started walking towards Yahzuk, we suddenly he saw another Elder running towards him with an offensive gesture. It was Slvynn, and his intention neither seemed to be friendly. And so, DevilHell acted quickly and Defended himself, removing the option to go to Yahzuk and tell him about what he wanted to do.
"Boy!" he thought "Those Volcano Children really explode!"

He never knew what Slvynn was so upset about, but he managed to get out of his view and started heading back to his palapa.

He again slept, for a long long time. But them he was awaken by a loud voice, Yahzuk's, as he could recognize.
"Great Tribal Elders, the Mayan people call upon you to reconvene and vote upon the matter raised during the last council!"

He went to the town, to realize that somebody had asked the vote of the other Elders to start applying a policy of Tradition on the Mayan people.
DevilHell was amused by this, and also happy.
He approached to the people and screamed "I vote YES to this idea"
And returned home to sleep even more, after all, his dreams weren't much different from his reasoning, only happier.

Does this mean you're defending for this Council session as well?

OOC:

Hahaha no of course not
I am implying that my action automatically changed to "Defend" when I was attacked by SLvynn, but more in a story way :)

On another topic,
As Carnid and Ceskari supported the going Writing, can I please ask them to post or PM me with ideas of the Building plan or the next Research queeue
As I said, I don't oppose against this, i just wanted to explore other ways, but hey, I am a child of the Boiling seas :) :P

(I know you didn't ask for it from me, but since I started this whole Writing conversation, I feel it's incumbent on me to summarize).

It seems like, no matter what our route is going forward, our next three tech paths (after Writing) are

Animal Husbandry
Mining -> Masonry (no reason to stop at Mining, since it's Quarries that we want)
Calendar

The only question is, what order. And we don't have to decide until at least the next council session because Writing's in the queue. It might be better to have 10 more turns of reconnaissance before we do.

Can i join ?
Cult : Children of the Tsunami
Leader : Jehoshua

Vote Yes on tradition, recuperating from visit at in-laws. Contemplating what to research next after Pottery is down pat. Designing symbols for the fabled "Writing" as we speak.

I propose that Bronze Working be researched when it becomes available, the warrior starts to head eastward (since it seems that going southwards would be pointless), and the scout explores our west once it is completed.
