So I'm trying to figure-out what game messages are dead giveaways as to what civs are in the game whom you haven't met yet. I've got these so far:

An extra belief is gone right when a religion is founded: Byzantines
Pantheon on turn 10: Celts
You have been beaten to 6 wonders when there's only 4 civs on the map: Egypt
Somebody founded a full-blown religion before you even got Stonehenge built: Ethiopia
Somebody has been eliminated by turn 15: Huns
Someone's been nuked out of existance: India
Somebody circumnavigated the globe on turn 27: Polynesia

Any others I'm missing?

Not hard-and-fast - some faith huts can give enough for an early boost that large, and if Siam finds a religious city-state early (or Spain a religious Natural Wonder) the bonus is almost large enough to get a pantheon.

Or you're playing Immortal or Deity, or are just prioritising the ones the AI also prioritises.

Somebody founded a full-blown religion before you even got Stonehenge built: Ethiopia

Conceivably Maya, the Celts, or again Spain/Siam with the appropriate game feature.

Somebody has been eliminated by turn 15: Huns

Very slight chance of Persia or the Maya, although while the Maya can do it in theory I don't know that the AI plays them that way (never actually encountered them as an AI). It's hard for the Huns to take anyone out that early too, and even harder when the Huns are AI controlled (which in any case rushes late quite apart from its difficulty in executing said rush).

Someone's been nuked out of existance: India

Likely but not definitive. I've had games in which Catherine or Ramesses has nuked every other city in the game.

EDIT: Of one enemy civ, that is.

Somebody circumnavigated the globe on turn 27: Polynesia

Any others I'm missing?

Someone is a tech ahead of every other AI by the time you reach Writing: Babylon.

City State X lost its capital: Sometimes Huns, but generally Mongolia.

Unmet Player is trailing everyone else drastically: Denmark...

Last game I played I thought surely this was the case. Turned out it was the Inca and Babylon tag teaming to beat me to early wonders, by one turn not once, but twice even. Somehow each one ended up on his own continent, playing continents now, mind you, not small contientents. They sat and wonder spammed without having regard to deal with contentious neighbors.

A lot of AI's has denounced a unmet player

pretty sure alexander is in the game

Unmet player has lost their capital

denmark, carthage,

Or Genghis or Bismarck, but the trouble with that is you can never be sure it's the same Unmet Player being denounced by everyone unless there's only one left.

Nah, usually America. The Danes always do badly, but I don't see them wiped out that often. Maybe, like me, the AIs take pity on Harald...

I was 99% tempted to put this one bc they are the AI whipping boy in every game I play against them, but I wasn't sure if that was just me. Guess they just suck that bad.

I don't think it's a power level thing, it's down to Harald's charming personality "Yes, I'm in three wars with a single-unit army? So? They made fun of my longship! We're at WAR!!! Um, hold on, Augustus, I think I had too much ale that day. Tell you what, here's everything I have to make it up to you."
