I am wondering if the GOTM staff is going to consider having a Classic Game of the Month. Oviously its the GOTM w/o the addons since there are some users who are eather tired of the addons or on a Dial-up modem.

While this seems attractive at first sight, we cannot produce a game with no add-ons without excluding a section of the playing community. There is a minimum set of mods that's needed to bring CivIII 1.29 and PtW to the same level playing field.

However, the staff hopes to continue to develop new ways to surprise you, so I suggest you continue to watch this space.

If bandwidth is the problem I think I've suggested to you before that there are other ways to solve that problem. For example you may be able to persuade someone local to you with broadband to burn the mods to a CD and snail mail it to you.

None of the "minimum set of mods" needs to be graphical. I disliked having new graphics packs forced on me.

Hopefully the C3C version of the GOTM will have a no-graphics-addon option.

That may be true for the PtW mods (though I'm not familiar with PtW, so I can't be sure) but you certainly need graphic add-ons to CivIII 1.29 to match up with PtW civs and associated units. I think the early graphics mods that went into both versions were things like fog, squid and volcanoes? Which were fun, but not essential to the plot.

I think Dave was talking about Lamb and Porkchop and other resources with Alphabet marker on them.;) IMO, we don't need those to bring vanila Civ3 to the same level as PTW. I sometimes couldn't tell the different between luxury and food in previous GOTM. A lot of time, I thought that the perl was a luxury, but it turned out to be food!:( It took me a long time to realize that the Lamb was actually Wool and it was a luxury, not food!

//edit: Correct some spellings

Hi Moonsinger, welcome back to the gotm forums. With Sir Pleb and DaveMcW making comeback appearances this month it's feeling quite like old times! Now we just need to find an award for you to shoot for ;)

I'm not sure I understand your problem with the additional resources in gotm. They allowed new ways to make hills, plains, mountains and coastal tiles into interesting locations, breaking up the "same old formulae" and allowing development of maps with a different mix of landscape. But maybe, coming from Iowa, you are strictly a prairie farm girl, with no interest in hill farming?

I have never had problems distinguishing the lux from the commodities, because I use the smilie versions of the resource graphics. I agree that shuffling the standard ones around seems a bit excessive, but I guess it was a response to what was seen as fog-cheating then (a little before my time), and it should only cause file swapping problems for vanilla players.

Can't they just make 1 installer for the gotm games. One that includes all the changes from 21 and more.

It's under consideration, but currently it would be a very big download, so we would rather identify a subset of features that wil be used going forward and create a mod pack for that set.
