Sounds like you might be thinking of Populous, another Molyneux/Bullfrog title?

If so, you can get it via GOG.com.

That's presumably Powermonger (or something of that vintage).

Of course that is the legendary Powermonger.
Check page 1 of this thread for a brief discussion of it ;)

Oh wow it totally is Populous! Thank you so much! I’m sure it’s not that big of a deal but still, I’m incredibly happy to finally know what it is. Don’t really know how to thank you enough without sounding too happy so I’ll end it here.
(But thanks again, this totally made my day)

This is the dreadful "Desert Rats", for the Amstrad:

I actually had it, but could never achieve much with it and gave up. Gfx were just ridiculously bad :)

The Amstrad sucked. It was worse than the other 8bit computers (C64 and even Spectrum, i suppose...).
    When i got my Amiga500, a year later, i thought i got sci-fi tech...

As a Spectrum 48k+ owner, i walked the Amiga 500 path too. I couldn't believe my eyes, but specially i couldn't believe my ears.

    Going from this:

    To this:

It was too much. However all us Spectrum owners hold a small place for the spec in our hearts.:old:

Edit : doh, didn't notice there was another page answering the question.
Well, you got a free link to GOG's page for it :p

    I never liked Populous.
Maybe because by the time i had an Amiga, Populous2 was out already, and even that paled next to various other games with similar theme (eg Megalomania and Utopia).

    Speaking of Megalomania:

It was a pretty cool game :)

I thought I was the only one to remember that game. Yes, the distant ancestor to Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis. The map is similar to vanilla Crusader Kings. Of course they didn't have stuff like casus belli & council laws but it did have the religions with conversions, appeasing the nobles and towns (who often worked at cross purposes), and if you died your heir took over. Good times.

I played the first level of Wargames: Defcon 1 as NATO, though I did try WOPR for once. Never knew how to progress to the next level so I eventually sold my disc off.

Somehow WOPR has gained access to a factory or w/e ala Skynet and produced a slew of war machines that it decides to use to take over the world. The first mission takes place in the Carolinas, I think.

It was my first RTS and quite simply it was enjoyable, fun, and the models were interesting.

I pine for it to like, turn up on GOG or something. I want to finish it.

Burned many an hour playing SSG's "Reach for the Stars" (the original 1980's version, not the 2000 remake) on a friend's Apple IIgs. First commercially published 4X game.
