IMO, the domestic side of things is a little sloppy (i.e. an unpowered factory). That the National epic was never built is amusing... Doesn't really make a difference at this stage, but there probably should have been more discussion about the small wonders in this game. would've shaved some turns off the win.
I cleaned up the economy a bit and set us on the road to tanks. Instead of drafting, I lowered the research and upgraded. We have lots of transports and destroyers floating about. I whipped some courts and other economic improvements. Instead of building culture in newly conquered cities, just whip a theatre or library or temple or other culture producing thingy.
I probably should have taken the time to preposition the forces, but alex wouldn't give me 430 gold when I asked, so I cancelled the open borders and declared on the second turn.
Alex isn't quite ready to throw in the towel and capitulate, so go attack his new capital. Don't vassalize him until he's willing to give up physics. you can turn up the research when you feel like it. I have it down to upgrade.
The empty islands bother me. I can see our vassals filling those in.
I prolly should ha' done something with the civics, but I left them alone.
There's a great scientist to use as you see fit.
Madrid should finish the coal plant and west point and then start cranking military. Shanghai should finish IW and then start the Pentagon.
prolly should put Wall Street somewhere.
I prolly didn't whip enough.
there are missionaries running about. send them to the vassals. When the time is right, we need to convert the vassals to our religion.
Guessing this will be over in 40 turns or less. Gaunlet is thrown down.
Wow!
We're in the 20th century researching Physics! Well, this kind of map really slows down the researching speed, doesn't it?
Good job, AK! I guess it's only a matter of when Alex will capitulate now to hit domination. Is it right? If so, doesn't matter if he will share Physics with us or not. We can win without it.
I can play tonight. I'm gonna check how far we are from winning. If we're too close, I'm gonna let Sir Clive finish it. Is that ok with everybody?
I had a look at the save last night. We are far from the Domination limit. Actually, we can win this game by conquest rather easily. We have more than 60% of the population, but are below 40% in land area. There are so many unclaimed islands in the middle of the map, but the AI put some cities entirely on the ice. Stupid AI!
We should take Alexander (that should be easy, as he has only one Machine Gun around), then take Stalin (Does he still have longbows only? :lol), and then make Genghis a vassal. And I think it can be done before 2000 AD, too.
I didn't draft anywhere and IIRC, I only whipped in newly conquered cities. Happiness shouldn't be an issue. Concentrating the forces should be much easier now that transports are on line. You should be able to extort Physics when alex capitulates. IMO, Khan should be next simply because his lands are closer to the army and Stalin is indeed still running around with LBs
Oh my. I`m very very very very very sorry. I just got intimated by my wife to give her some attention. She threatened me with a from the bed... I'd not like to sleep at the couch.
I can play this weekend and report on Monday, if it's ok with you guys. If not, Sansman, feel free to take it! Please, just let me know.
Sorry, I did not get a chance to play too busy with the kids and helping my brother these past couple of days. Right now I am pretty tired and will be going to bed.
it's like camping. you haven't been married long enough
Sorry, I did not get a chance to play too busy with the kids and helping my brother these past couple of days. Right now I am pretty tired and will be going to bed.
Sorry, Admiral Kutzov I have was not feeling too well last night and decided that after the kids went to bed I was going to follow their example . I honestly thought we were letting Sir Clive to have a crack at it, but since he has not responded either I guess if fbelintani does not want to take his turn (it is his turn is not) I will take a bullet for the team and play tonight. If I do not respond by tomorrow morning assume that the my wife has finally followed through on one of her threats.
BTW: Admiral Kutzov, fbelintani I find that I sleep much better on the couch . So really it is a small blessing for me when I got sent there. Unfortunately though, my wife has realized this and as such no long sends me there .
And as for the "massage", I have long since 'learned' that after giving birth to my children it is the absolute least I can do to thank my wife whenever she demands one.
And as for the "massage", I have long since 'learned' that after giving birth to my children it is the absolute least I can do to thank my wife whenever she demands one.
Or else you'd get a -10 diplomatic relation for not helping her.
That was my problem too. Sorry. It was my turn. I just couldn't be at home for playing this weekend (and holiday). You were right to me.
I'd like to let Sir Clive deliver the final blow, but it seems he isn't available. So, let's finish it!
I opened the save and took a scan of our territory and noticed that we have a lot more cities. Hmm this could a take awhile to go through. I may as well start my merry quest of examining every city. I notice that quite a few of them have some happiness issues. I am surprised that most of our conquered cities are so whiny. Well I have a solution for that, good old fashion whipping. Seriously, War Weariness is becoming a problem and we do not have Police State yet. So I check our techs, we have our science rate at 10%, OK, why? We must a lot of troops to upgrade I guess. Checked on the front lines, other than some ships and some troops at home we do not have many troops that require upgrades. So I jack up the rate to 60% and we are still making money. I proceed to rally the troops to knock out the larger island with Alexanders new Capital. Boy do we have a lot of wounded, sorry guys you are to continue fighting until Alexander has learned that it is better to submit than to be destroyed.
The cities I whipped:
I decided that since Stalin has some income that he had better give to us:
And I finally hit enter. Another city that feels the whip:
Argos falls:
Ivory Coast gets whipped:
I send the troops over to Knossos and notice that I only have Calvary and Cannons, no Infantry. Needless to say I scramble to find some to send there for defense but I fear that I may have lost the lot. I hit enter and wait to watch the slaughter. Then is it my turn, Alexander did not attack! But I still can not get any infantry over to them by the end of the turn. Alexander attacks this time so we lose three troops. Needless to say I felt really stupid that this point. On the bright side Alexander left only two defenders at Pharsalos. So I send some troops there and to attack:
And finally Knossos falls:
I check the Domestic Advisor:
I checked with Alexander:
He will not accept Capitulation, but I think we are in dire need to stop the war at the moment. About a 1/3 of our Cities have unhappy citizens; we are in need of some sort of relief. We have two choices sign a cease fire with Alexander and rebuild our armies and hopefully add some aircrafts to our inventory and destroy Alexander. I do not think we will be able to get him to Capitulate if we let him go now. There was a SG whose goal was to Vassal everyone; they discovered that if you declare peace with someone that later they are unwilling to submit. But since our focus is to learn warfare this might be better for us. Option #2; continue the war and research Fascism after Electricity (I did not check the number of turns for Fascism). Rally whats left of the army and send them south to attack the city beside Chicago, the new Capital. We should sick the Vassals on to some of the other cities of Alexander as well. Problem however is that some of our cities may go into revolt. Boston revolted twice during my turn set so I whipped it in hopes to lessen the issue.
We also have a Great Scientist I think we should use him for a Golden Age so after we are done with Alexander we can concentrate on birthing another Great Person.
Spoilerlessons learned :
What have I learned: Machine Gun units are not affected by collateral damage from siege units. Machine Gun units are a real pain to remove.
Mistake: I did not use the Vassals to attack Alexanders smaller cities. I really think this was a huge mistake on my part.

BTW fbelintani: I always seem to be at -10 diplomatic relations with my wife lately. Helping prevents the nuclear winter from returning or the dreaded -∞ diplomatic relations.
Great report, Sansman. Thanks for covering my absence.
I've got it. I've already negotiated a peace treaty for the following two weeks and today is a game night.
You'll have a report tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.
