Clive01 - Warlords Prince Conquest / Domination

Sorry I've let the SG slip somewhat

I just got offered a new job and am flying from London to NY today for a training course.

In addition to preparing for the new job I have had family commitments over Easter so Civving time has been almost non-existent.

I'm leaving or the airport in about 3 hours and I still haven't done any packing :(

I will be taking the laptop with me though and should hopefully be back civving in a couple of days.....

I'm back from the beach. Holidays are always a good time to rest a little. The only downside is that Civ goes out of the schedule. You can't play while you are sleeping! :p

Sir, have a good trip! And good luck with your new job. You'll get time to civ, that's for sure!

Ok, so back to the drawing:

Steel is a mile away from us. Like Bede said, Trebs do pretty well job against muskets. The only problem is if we see grenadiers in the middle of the war. So, back to the questioning...
Q: Does Qin have Chemistry?
A: No, he wants it.
Q: Does he have Rifling?
A: No, he doesn't have Replaceable Parts yet.

So, it'll be grens AND Trebs X Muskets. Now we're talking. ;)

Of course, we'll not be able to hold the research at 10 turns IF we start the war. Qin is friendly with us and I think most of our foreign trade routes come from him. If in the meantime he gets grenadiers... Well. Turtle up and wait for him to come.

Sir Clive must be in the air by now. Negy, can you play it? We could swap Sir Clive until he mentions he's got time to play. What do the team think?

Got it. I will play 12-15h from now. I will prepare the attack. We don't have empty Galleons to transfer new units to battlefield and just a few cities building troops. I will solve this ;)

Quiet builder turns, built mainly troops
:whipped: a lot (most of our cities should be every 10 turns)
Steel on next turn

Qin will be a nice target :D

The save

Good builder turns, negy! :goodjob:
I'm sorry about the deals canceled. Well, the AI isn't so dumb, at least. I begged from them nicely! :mischief:

Steel is in next turn. Cannons should be built every city with a Citadel. Every coastal city producing Frigates.

Again, I don't think Qin is the right target now. You saw his defenses. I still think Stalin is a XP farm. Even more with that culture flipped city in our hands now. Genghis may not be a bad choice either, but he is a little bit more advanced. Nothing compared to Alex and America, though.

We are at 1750 AD, gentlemen. Get ready to modern warfare soon. Amphibious tanks, anyone? :ar15:

I need to look at the save for more comments. For now it's all.

Roster:
fbelintani - On deck?
The Sansman -
Sir Clive - (on auto swap)
negyvenketto - Just played
Bede - Up?

@Admiral K: are u with us? Wanna a spot?
@Sir Clive: I hope you don't mind me taking the "lead" in your absence. :mischief: When you're back, the power shall be yours again!

Let's set this, then:

Roster:
fbelintani -
The Sansman -
Sir Clive - (on auto swap)
negyvenketto - Just played
Bede - Up
Admiral Kuztov - On Deck

As soon as Sir Clive returns, he takes the save!

It's in the hopper for tomorrow night.

:thanx: for the :bump:

:wallbash:I don't even have the RL excuse, just....distracted.

Hi All

I haven't even had a chance yet to read the thread let alone formulate any thoughts :(

I do have the Civ disk with me though so hopefully will have a chance to have a look when I have bit of spare time at the weekend .

TTFN ...

A wise old man of my acquaintance once told me "Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics", so time for a lesson in logistics.

Spent some time with the map drawing lines to find rthe shortest routes to the Chinese mainland. Then set up the boats and the training schedules to match.

Then changed civics to a wartime footing (Theocracy)

Swapped all the trebs into galleons and moved them to our holdings on the Korean island for their upgrade to cannons. Then moved them back to be in position to attack Beijing.

Sold Liberalism to Qin to empty his treasury as I didn't want to be facing too many rifles.

Once all were in place

Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

First attack was at Chengdu - We are going to need it for a staging depot and Wang will never capture the town

Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

Then it was on to Beijing

Civ4ScreenShot0002.JPG

The navy took some losses cleaning Chinese caravels out of the strait but the assault on the town went like a hot knife through butter. Qin had moved his rifles out of town!

In for the kill!

Civ4ScreenShot0003.JPG

Lost a single cannon. City Raider, Barrage, and Accuracy promoted cannons are deadly to city defenders after the walls are battered down.

Chengdu also fell and we took no losses.

Bought Nationalism from Alexander in exchange for Economics and Liberalism and changed civics again to Nationhood for the barracks happiness as the natives were getting restless at home and abroad.

Then swapped Economics to Washington and opened the borders to him to get another trade boost.

After all needed upgrades were done set the scientists to learning Printing Press as it is needed for Rifles and we get a commerce boost from maturing cottages.

Then load out the boats and up the coast to Shanghai.

Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

Meanwhile, Qin attacked Beijing with a single rifleman, scoring a grenadier. He was soon dead, however. And that was the extent of the Chinese counter.

And Shanghai collapsed under the weight of Spanish cannon

Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

And load out the boats and head north to Guangzhou.

Qin was a pushover!

We need some worker turns in various places so I am shifting the workers from home to the outislands. Take a worker in every shipload from home and drop them off where they can do some good.

Havana is back to training missionaries to spread the faith to our new holdings. Include a missionary in every boatload too.

Tactics are based on naval movement of troops. I have a small force in the center of the Chinese home island to cover against any incursions from Guangzhou south but those are the only troops on land outside of the captured cities.

Millitary Tradition should open up to us soon, grab it when you can and pay whatever it takes. And don't worry about selling tech to raise cash if you need it. Keep the scinetists focuses on the tech path to Infantry and and bigger boats. The next generals we get should travel back home for Military Acadamies in Madrid and Porkopolis and Tolosa. Do not attach a general to a a trooper!

Once Qin is whipped we may want to put the Ironworks on the Chinese mainland, it seems to have good mix of hammer heavy terrain with the proper land management.

Had to raise the entertainment impost a bit - though that will also work to our advantage as the Chinese cities come out of resistance.

:goodjob::goodjob:

I must say Bebe that you got the situation well under control Qin never had a chance. I only hope that there is some left for me when my turn set comes up, which is looking very unlikely.

 Good turns, Bede!
I must confess I didn't think it was going to be that easy. Well, if it wasn't, Bede made it look like it was!
Sansman, I don't think I'll have any fun either! At least not with Qin. :mischief:
IMO, we don't need Rifling until we get Assembly Line. Infantry needs rifling, but we don't need Riflemen. For better ships we need:
  • Sci Meth (for oil) or Physics (for uranium), which needs Sci Meth; and
  • Combustion (for wells), which needs Railroad, which needs Steam Power, which needs Replaceable Parts, which needs Printing Press, which means we are on the right path. (phfew!)

Scout or Sesn? ;)

i have it. Prolly done late Saturday when the noreaster hits.

Got a few turns to go. What has happened thus far:

I note Pyramids in Moscow. I note various instructions about the map, which, for the most part, I blithley ignore (not really, bede's too venerable, it might kill him if I did that). I do admit rolling the dice a bit and deviating from the plan.

Civ4ScreenShot0012.JPG

I note the "Land Here" sign, so I do.
Civ4ScreenShot0013.JPG

No idea why I took this picture, but it must be impotent.
Civ4ScreenShot0016.JPG

Really want mobile forces so
Civ4ScreenShot0017.JPG

anyway, I've got two turns left. I'll tweek this up for the next player. Random thoughts from my illegible scribbles:

We could use a source of sheep and don't need spices. Too many unsettled islands. need more settlers. Still only see one source of marble. Big pointy wonder is really tempting since Uncle Joe ain't got no guns. My kill ratio sucks (19-13-2), but that was a calculated risk and intended since i divided the forces. Set Wang to research Sci Method. Vassalization of Qin should soon be done. Settlers, dammit we need more settlers. I did decimate (literally) the chinese navy. Qin still has a few junks sailing in random patterns. We now have cavs...
I rushed at market at cheju due to happy gas issues.

oops forgot to mention. took gzhou and hzhou. yao ming too expensive.

more tomorrow.

I looked at this post yesterday night and didn't understand a thing!
Now that you explained the images, things are better!
Good job so far, Admiral! Can't wait to see more!

I just don't think I'll be able to play this weekend. My wife is currently sleeping by my side and that's why I could post. ;)
So, if Sir Clive doesn't come to claim his turns, Sansman can pick it if he can play until Monday. :)

All done. Sorry for the delay.

Did this deal.
Civ4ScreenShot0018.JPG

To summarize, took 3 of Qin's cities. Another should go next turn.
Civ4ScreenShot0019.JPG

IMIO:
Forbidden Palace - shanhai?
Wall Street - Chengdu, Seoul?
Ironworks - Cheju?

2 cavs to embark in Nanjing.

Also think we should found some new cities. I was too lazy to take pix, but the locations are noted on the map.

Should be able to vassalize Qin soon. He's up scientific method, rifles and DR. Should be able to get at least 2 when vassalized.

Next Target. Washington is easier, Alex is more advanced. America is easier on the boats.

I see it, but I haven't got it.
I'm gonna try to play tonight. If I hadn't got it yet, Sansman, feel free to play.
