Just looked at SirC's 1784 save. Some comments for the edification of next player.

1) Point Denial must be retaken as it is the only source of rubber. Move the army from the Spanish peninsula. There are plenty of artillery over there to support the assault.

2) Use the whip to get some artillery in the peninsular towns as that will be the location of the next Spanish landing.

3) Get the artillery on the home island in position to begin an assault on the lost towns in the corner. But don't attack until you have at least two healthy armies. Fight a holding action with artillery to keep the Spanish troops hurting so they cannot attack, but that is all you can do until you have some assault forces.

4) Infantry builds on the home island should change to cavalry and use them in the new army.

5) Make sure you locate all the artillery and all the veterans and get them concentrated.

6) There are more than enough troops to respond to the Spanish invasions; they are spread out however and need to be concentrated.

7) Fight no battles that you do not have an overwelming chance to win. Think defense first, hurting the enemy second, attacking the wounded third.

The Lifeline [see yellow line below] will allow movement between islands and you can get troops anywhere at 0 movement cost. Keep two boats in Juli and two in Seattle and you will [have] enough transport capacity to respond to Spanish threats on either island.

0) 1784: I opened up Mapstats for this and it looks grim. Even though we are far ahead in territory, Spain has huge culture and can get to 100K within 100 turns. Japan is the only one even within half their culture. This means we can't harm Japan.
On the military front, I see that we've lost Point Denial and Isthmus City. We need those back. Spain is fascist, so how are they still getting massive culture? I rushed arty over from Seattle to bombard the units outside Diamondhead. Killed the invaders, and took the Spanish arty near Isthmus city. On the other front, I send some cav, infantry and artillery outside Point Denial.
I trade Arabs Ironclads, wine and dye for Sanitation and a worker. Turned science down to 60%, still get Mass Pro in 3. Crack the whip to get infantry in Bananarama and Vilcas. Why are we building Palace in Vitcos? Are we prebuilding? Tambo Colorado switched to arty. MM Vilcabamba. Those engineers are no help building cav, so I turn them into scientists. What are all those workers doing 2n of Smyrna, working land that can't be used by cities?

1) 1786: Ollantaytambo SPHQ-->bomber. Ironland infantry-->cav. Seattle arty-->arty. Vilcas infantry-->cav. Uxmal guerilla-->bomber. Eldalonde bank-->cav. Fez cav-->guerilla. T.C. arty-->arty. Huaca starts bomber. Bananarama infantry-->guerilla. Desert city lib-->cav. MM cities to max production. We take back Isthmus City w/6 slaves. I put them to work switching the irrigation to mining. We need production, not growth! Cruiser sinks frigate. Destroyer sinks frigate. Take back Eglarest.

2) 1788: Spanish are bringing in heavy reinforcements to Heraclea. May have to pull out and regroup. Diamondhead lib-->arty. Varna infantry-->cruiser. M.P. bank-->factory. Calakmul aqua-->arty. Smyrna infantry-->settler. If we're going to work those mountains, might as well have a town there. Buffalo destroyer-->cav. Cinci grain-->worker. Need to get more mines out that way. Nasca infantry-->bomber. Dallas infantry-->bomber. Juli infantry--> hospital. Huamanga harbor-->hospital. We take back Point Denial, so we can build infantry again! Wiped the Spanish off the 2nd continent. After bloody fighting that saw an army get redlined and our conscripts fight with uncommon valor, Zimbabwe is taken back. Upgrade old units on Donut Isle and change citys to build bombers.

3) 1790: Spanish land 2 cav outside Clive's Castle. Learn Mass Pro, start Motors. Washington guerilla-->hospital. Boston infantry-->arty. Caesarea bank-->battleship. Pollution outside Seattle. Merw grain-->bomber. Smyrna settler-->infantry. Detroit arty-->rax. New Orleans rax-->factory. Silkburg harbor-->aqua. Jungle City market-->rax. LouisRuins starts rax. Sausa lib-->market. We can get motors in 6. Mountainview founded WNW of Caesarea, starts rax. Dallas switches to Airport.

4) 1792: Spanish wanted to talk to us. They wouldn't give us Heraklea, so I told 'em to get lost. Cuzco army-->hospital. Constantinople bomber-->battleship. Tiwanaku destroyer-->bomber. Clive's Castle infantry-->battleship. New Cuzco lib-->rax. Ollantaytambo bomber-->Pentagon. Atlanta cav-->grain. Ironland cav-->infantry. Pelargir Wall St.-->hospital. Seattle arty--> hospital. Cinci worker-->battleship. Alicante arty-->market. Meadowlands aqua-->market. Canal City starts market. Many of these markets are being started because their citizens are relatively unhappy. Hlobane recaptured, starts rax. Invaders repulsed!

5) 1794: Spanish sink a transport. Tamboccocha aqua-->worker. They need mines. Eldarinore temple-->hospital. Vilcabamba cav-->bomber. Eglarest cav-->battleship. Muscat worker-->rax. Viper Pit cav-->rax. DBear's Preserve cav-->rax. Memphis market-->comm dock. Arequipa arty-->rax. Arty redline a Spanish destroyer near Seattle, send my own to hunt it down.

Sorry, I had time for only 5 turns. I think you'll like the results, though, and these were rather critical. Suggestions--take the war to Spain, get Heraclea. Secure a second rubber--on America Island near Los Angeles, or Mayan Island near Ek Balam. We are 4 turns from motors and the modern age. I still don't know what the palace build is for. Are we trying a prebuild for a modern wonder? If so, some MM will be necessary so we don't build the palace too soon.
We still have a big tech lead. Spain doesn't know about flight or mass pro yet. The others don't even have steel yet. Spain has 70K culture, making 400 a turn. Japan has 37K making 220 a turn. Therefore, we can't hurt Japan or Spain will get the 100K win. Merw has a .6% flip chance, may want to reinforce.

the plan, build up some art and a fleet and go raze Madrid within 50 turns. Yes, this is doable. Will require serious MM and build up.
 
Preturn - Nothing major, at least that I can fix in preturn. Onward!

IBT - Thank God for that hill, or our arty stack would have been taken. 2 infantry lost up near Heraclea. Japan and Arabia sign MPP. Units produced. The Spanish are more advanced than us!

Turn 1 - Begin transport in Tulum to secure second rubber. Killed 2 infantry in Heraclea, moved Army to cover artillery.

IBT - Spanish reinforce Heraclea with 4 infantry.

Turn 2 - 1 Guerrilla, 2 infantry, 2 cav lost attacking Heraclea. 7 infantry and 2 guerrillas killed. Heraclea taken and 5 arty captured!

IBT - Heavy infantry builds.

Turn 3 - Sliders changed to 50/50, still 1 turn on mech transport. 5 infantry killed near Heraclea.

IBT - 5 infantry move in north of Heraclea. Empty transport lost to a destroyer near Heraclea. New era! Begin Rocketry.

I'm being kicked off now, so only 4 turns played.

How did Spain get more advanced than us? I've been checking mapstats every turn and when I left, we were up flight and mass pro on them. We were the only ones with flight and mass pro.
 
I haven't checked the save, but I don't think they're more advanced, they just have tons more kulture. We need to kill Madrid to stop a cultural victory.

It happened, I don't know how. On that IBT a message from the great chronicler Tacitus popped up, and said that they were the #1 most advanced nation.
