In light of what may be Iroquois agression, not to mention calls for the conquest of Rome, the City Naming Office has seen fit to start this official discussion on the matter of whether we should change city names after capturing them to get more citizen names covered. After a two day discussion will come a two day poll (I'm in no rush) on the matter. This is part of the City Naming Office's attempt to be more democratic and friendly.

The question is whether or not we want to rename a city that we capture or flip from another tribe. One way to do this would simply be to assign the next name down the list to the city, which would increase the number of names we'd get through (which is good, because there are a lot of names). Another would be to only change it slightly to make it sound more Japanese (Nyapolas), or for a special occasion (renaming Rome "Victory" for example). The problem with both is that you have to get used to new names, and that makes things very confusing. This was done last time, and I have to say I was extremely confused.

I say rename them. And if we rename them, we should use the citizen provided names.

Even though I want to get my name on the city I do not like the idea of re-naming enemy cities, I am in favor of changing the names to things like "japanatican rome" or "occupied Babylon"

rename the cities, from the list of city names, exactly how they are(NO JAPANITIZING)

I think i vary from civilization to civilization, for instance i wouldnt mind renaming the iroquios, but i think the roman citys should keep their names

I beleve we should rename captured cities :)

I want to rename all the cities we capture by any means with the next name in the Citizen Registry. We need to work through as many names as possible. It's a perk for registering.

i strongly disagree, the names are put in how they are listed

Of course, any citizen-requested names should not be altered in any way. But if we decide not to rename conquered cities according to citizens (which I hope), then we should rename cities like "Pompeii" to a more japanific name...

Can an AI rename cities? "Oh, hey! I don't like Immo, let's rename it Tokyo!" Can an AI do it, no.

I feel that if we capture a city militarily, its name should stand until enough time has gone by that at least 50% of the "citizens" are Japatanican. At that point, we can change it.

Now, if we raze and rebuild, it should count as a new city, new name and all.

Also, if a city culturally converts, I feel it should have an instant name change to denote full brotherhood (as opposed to military occupation).

Change the name immediately. While a cool idea on the 50%, it's a bookkeeping mess.

Take the path of least resistance and rename it. Sir Donald notwithstanding, we do not have the collective emotional fortitude to play this game as if we were an actual nation, facing actual national issues.

So let's rename without even a wink at the heritage of the oppressed, and do so with a clear mind. Homogenize, decentralize........it's just a quirk.

I believe in renaming as well, but can I recommend the following:
A captured city must qualify for renaming, generally being the building of the first cultural improvement.

Rename :)
btw, if i rememeber well AI in Alpha Centaury could rename conquered cities.
