Colonial Imperialism in Asia! CivDipMod006.

I recieved the change to the orders 48 hours after the due date.

Rules with orders are fairly cut and dry.

Side question: could we speed up adjudications a bit - say every 4-5 days instead of every 7? I'm getting NO letters except from 3 players - and we work everything out within a day.

I have a feeling that too many people approach this game like Risk - all moves no diplomacy.

How about an informal vote, raise your hand if you've received a letter in the past three days?

*raises hand*

Demetrias- Thanks for the support, although it is over and settled now

*keeps hand down*

No letters whatsoever...

*Raises hand*

On a side note, please excuse the lack of communication. The in-laws are in town. I will try my best. They leave mid next week.

I must admit that the events that have transpired these past two weeks have resulted in my heart no longer being in this game. Fear not. I am not resigning, just merely venting some frustration in what I have witnessed with this game.

Yes, Naervod's mistaken build order was invalid. Although, I'm not so sure I wouldn't have made a similary mistake given my unfamiliarity with this board. However, considering the fact that our GM had vanished for so long that we actually had another volunteer to fill the spot, I feel some leeway should have been granted.

In fact, one could argue that due to Toasty's absence, and the fact that Kitten posted a new deadline for build orders after assuming the role of GM, that Naervod's corrected build orders were submitted before the posted deadline for build orders.

Furthermore, the apparent double standard is a major concern of mine. Less than one week prior to Toasty's disappearance, the deadline for move orders was postponed because someone had too little time to devote to the game because of his girlfriend (certainly a just cause, I might add, but still an inconvenience).

My point is not to complain about de Montcalm's dating habits or about Toasty's willingness to extend that deadline. In fact, I also benefited from that extension. However, I am disturbed that now, apparently, the order deadline is so rigid, that it cannot be extended for any reason, despite the extended absence from our GM (who, by the way had time to post in other threads, just not in this one). I find this very disturbing.

So sayeth the King of Holland.

In any case, it's not the domain of the GM to remind the players of the rules, unless they ask a specific question about a tricky rule dilemma [If I do this and he does that, are any supports cut? questions like that].

Toasty's letter to Naervod therefore was an informal, friendly reminder that you can only build in home SCs - NOT an official notice.

I'm not updating the map again, however, France DID order France: F Cochin - Gulf of Siam.

I would like to request an extension to Saturday 11:59 GMT because I will be gone and getting back earlier that day. This issue isn't really debateable for me as there is no other alternative than me NMRing. This is also my last post on the boards for a week. See you guys in a week ;).

Thank you Toasty. :)

There is a big storm in the DC area so my flight got pushed back a day. I am still coming home on Saturday and I still need the deadline then so I can read all my emails regarding diplomacy.

Man I would like to know how are you calculating the deadline? You're sounding like the woman on TV announcing the program. And at 11.59 a film called.....
You are a very creative person well this way deadlines are funny.

actually, this is due at 7:59 p.m. where I'm at, and I'll always be at home working on stuff Wednesday night :mischief:. The 11:59 is so that there isn't any confusion of the dates, as 12:00 would be technically Thursday.

We jave 2 NMR's, China and Turkey. If the people in the game wish to wait for them to submit their orders, then I will allow it. If not, I will do the update with what I've got.

I wouldn't normally do this, but 2 is too much.

I think we should just go ahead, since the deadline was already extended 3 days, and as far as I know they were around during that time. I wasn't but i still got my orders in.

I would say to wait until one or the other submits orders. 2 NMRs is a bit much at this stage in the game. The Chinese player hasn't posted in a few days. That is highly unusual for him. He's looks like a 5 posts a day person. The Turkish player's last post is above on this page. And that is also unusual.

I hereby submit my resignation as king of Holland. I hope you can find a replacement for me soon.

Of course, my units can be put into civil disorder, or if you prefer, I would be willing to continue posting random orders for a short while (until a replacement can be secured). By random, I mean that I would be willing to randomly select a set of orders from any that I receive via e-mail during the turn and submit those as my official orders for the turn.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some of you, but I feel that I am incapable of putting my full effort into continuing this game.

FortyJ, I had considered this, but the response was 48 HOURS OVERDUE, and it was not two entire NMRs.

Toasty
...and how many hours overdue are these?

But, I don't want to debate particulars with you concerning when it's okay to bend the rules on orders and when it is not. It's your game, you make the rules.

I can also understand when RL concerns interfere with the game. I have a real life also. In fact, mine kept me out of town and away from my computer for the better portion of last week, yet I managed to stay informed of the deadline postponement and submit my orders in time.

My frustration is too deep and my heart is just not in this game any longer. I have tried to make it interesting, but I'd be doing an injustice to the other players in the game if I continued.

Also, please do not think of this as me leaving because things aren't going my way. I never expected to win this game as I inherited a nation that started the game with two successive NMR turns.

I'm simply reevaluating my commitments, and I've realized that I'd rather be devoting myself to other projects (both in real life and in the CFC). I just think the game would be more enjoyable to everyone else if someone else (presumably with more interest and time) took over Holland.

On a different note, I'd like to thank you for introducing me to this very interesting variant and getting me re-involved in the Dippy world.

Well, I think that unless The Troquelet and DeMontcalm at least show up soon, this game may just have to go...
