I have a problem with the Thai one, in that Ayutthaya was founded before Angkor (not possible in game), but became big after Angkor was razed. So here's what I'm suggesting.

Spoiler :

It is the year 1350 AD. The razing of the classical power of Angkor has allowed the Thai people to claim hegemony over Southeast Asia. With their once small capital of Ayutthaya now the most magnificent city in the region, their people are now ready to open their gates to the rest of the world.

Ahem. To wit:

6368–6370 (860–862). The tributaries of the Varangians drove them back beyond the sea and, refusing them further tribute, set out to govern themselves. There was no law among them, but tribe rose against tribe. Discord thus ensued among them, and they began to war one against another. They said to themselves, “Let us seek a prince who may rule over us and judge us according to the Law.” They accordingly went overseas to the Varangian Rus': these particular Varangians were known as Rus', just as some are called Swedes, and others Normans, English, and Gotlanders, for they were thus named. The Chuds, the Slavs, the Krivichians, and the Ves' then said to the people of Rus', “Our land is great and rich, but there is no order in it. Come to rule and reign over us.” They thus selected three brothers, with their kinsfolk, who took with them all the Rus' and migrated. The oldest, Rurik, located himself in Novgorod; the second, Sineus, at Beloozero; and the third, Truvor, in Izborsk. On Thailand, their DoM text says they found their new kingdom in Ayutthaya, not the city itself, so it works out.

On Russia, most of its population was eastern Slavs, but it was the Varangians who founded the city states that were the nucleus of Russia and formed their upper class, until both intermingled. In short Eastern Slavs + Varangians = Rus, but the Varangians got things in action and that's why they're mentioned.
