Colours of explored and unexplored area are too similar

I'm really worried about this too. When i first shown my cousin youtube stream, he immediately said that explored area looks ugly. And i was thinking just the same. I'm not colorblind but this makes me feeling uncomfortable when watching the map. I liked the way it displayed in Civ 5 and I like drawn map style in Civ 6, but this issue with explored/unexplored area is jus too big for me.

Thanx. I must admit I still find it a bit confusing. Particularly I find it a bit annoying that completely unexplored is light brown, hidden land in FoW is also light brown, but then hidden ocean in FoW is a much darker grey. So when I look at it, my mind want the darker colour to be the unexplored part, when that is in fact the ocean. I think either a darker or lighter shade for the completely unexplored parts would be better, as it's currently quite close to the FoW land.

I was going to suggest that the unexplored territory should remain light brown to reflect old parchment and the fog of war should be changed to gray to differentiate the two. But then I saw that the fog of war for oceans was gray, so it would be confusing. Unless they did differing shades of grayscale, and relied on the grayed out terrain, to separate FoW land from FoW sea.

Having reviewed the video, I feel even more strongly that it's not going to be an issue for me. The explored is hexed, the unexplored is large squares, the fog of war is muted, and the visible is bright. I'd likely leave it set to noon-ish.

That said, I don't care if there's options for those who'd prefer something more drastic, especially a color-blind mode.

This iteration of Civ for once wants us to clearly see the limits of visibility from our units and cities. In Civ V you just discovered the unknown and then that region retained its "visible" appearance, which is misleading because you did not know what might be happening within the areas outside of your field of view. Now we know at once what we have explored, what we have not explored, and what is within our view or not. These are four separate things. That seems very useful to me as a player. The issue of whether the visual distinction between these areas is plain enough for all to see, is another question, given that some people have color perception deficiencies.

Even though I really love the graphics and the concept of the age of discovery and the old style map for the FoW, I too dislike the color variation between Explored and Not.

I think it presents itself mostly when you have an Explored FoW piece surrounding a hex or two of unexplored hexes. It's difficult to tell if they are unexplored or possibly just featureless.

I would like to see the rest of the Explored FoW land to have a water color shade under the graphics based on what type of basic land it is, land, sea, mountain etc.

So similar to the way the Explored FoW water looks now but land colored.

This happened in the last live stream: the unexplored hexes were featureless and darker. I really don't think it will be a problem in game unless you have vision issues or are colorblind, in which case there should obviously be a colorblind mode.
