Complete Mac Mayania

Before ending turn, cranked up science to 100%, Replaceable parts went to 1. Shifted a Tulum to settler in one turn.

IBT Spain offered 12 GPT for spices and gems. Made her cough up the 27 gold in her treasury too.

Turn 1 - 1450 AD - Learned replaceable parts, set tech to espionage, still at 100% 4 turns. Loaded another frigate with settler, rifleman and 2 calvary. Wines will be quite popular in our little civilization. Made sure every city had at least one garrisoned unit.

IBT - Turned down trades for no gain from Spain/Portugal/Dutch.

Turn 2 - 1455 AD - Tweaked science down to 50%, +584 gpt, espionage in 3 turns. Three galleons heading to York. Rushed the library in New Calakmul to get the culture expansion faster to encompass that cow square. RR'ing everything. Will make more workers as Infra's finish. Traded Iron and Horses to Spain for renewing incense.

IBT- Traded Spices to Portugal for 200g/14GPT.

Turn 3 - 1460 AD - Still heading to York. Making a few more workers, rushed a couple more libs.

Turn 4 - 1465 AD - More of the same.

Turn 5 - 1470 - Learned espionage. Set to the Corporation, changed science to finish in 4 turns, 6 turns from ToE. Next tech will be atomic theory. port is running over england, hope we get to york first.

Turn - 6 - 1475 AD - More of the same.

Turn 7 - 1480 AD - Looks like we are not going to be able to get to York in time, so I made a RoP agreement, and will cut across london and found right smack on the wines and avoid war with england. Portugal is going to take them out so that's that. Began SPHQ in River Crossing.

Turn 8 - 1485 AD - Sunk a galleon with a Celt frigate in the North. Bombarded their frigates hitting the North end of the west territories, hit 2 out of 3. Made peace with Celts. We can declare again as soon as we get the troops and settler up by that Ivory. Projecting war across the sea takes sooo long. Traded Furs/75GPT/500G for silks from Portugal.

Turn 9 - 1490 AD - Portugal has lots of troops around York, working on getting our troops/settler over there. Spain allied with Portugal and declared on england. England down to one city. Researched the Corporation. Set to Atomic Theory, reduced science to 0. ToE in 2 turns.

Turn 10 - 1495 AD - Portugal has wiped out the English. Traded 500g/100gpt for dyes with portugal.

Quiriqua has Stock Exchange being buit (only 2 turns into it. It is our biggest shield city though at 45 per so I would shift it to Hoover. Have made many, many workers this turn. Alot of them i sent to western territories to clear much jungle and made a fair amount of progress, it will go fast. Most of the southern part of the main continent is completely railroaded, so I recommend going north. There's some forestation planting that needs to be done and mines/RR's. We will be done with much of this in not that many turns due to our massive workforce. The settler is standing on the spot for the wine city. Would suggest rushing harbor/library as possible for connection/expansion.
2 Galleons, one with troops, one with troops/settler on the move toward norther Celt country.

Good luck Macmayaniac,

Your faithful servant,
Aoxo :goodjob:

Good progress.

Serkhon, fruno, if either of you wants and is able to pick up the game as a swap, go ahead. If neither of you has taken it by tomorrow morning, I'll take it.

This isn't a technique I've used before, so I am asing about it. Can we take some of our captured laborer types and boat them into the our new win city and absorb them to increase population, then hurry production on a harbor/library?

Aoxo

That can certainly be done. Unfortunately the need to ferry them across the ocean makes it a bit inefficient - but it can certainly be done.

Since neither Serkhon nor fruno have chimed in, "got it." I'll play this afternoon/evening. A rather nice birthday present, actually!

It looks like it will take many turns to get the harbor built and/or the normal citizen increase to a level to hurry production anyway. The two galleons are nearly back. Even if we just filled one, that would probably get the harbor built.

Aoxo

Trouble is that we'll need 5 harbors eventually. But it's a worthy pursuit, and I will probably do it.

Preflight check: I see a large number of Coal Plants being built or completed. This will have only a very small window of usefulness, as we are about to build Hoover. They are swapped to other pursuits.

Looking at our current military situation vis a vis the luxuries, the Wines are covered. We have one load, with a Settler, near the Ivory, and a load of Cavs near the Silks. In both cases this is inadequate.

Ivory needs 3 more Infantry and 1 more Cavalry, I judge. Plus a Galleon.
Silks need 3 Infantry and 1 Settler, 1 more Galleon.
Incense needs 4 Cavalry, 3 Infantry, 1 Settler. 2 Galleons.
Dyes need 3 Cavalry, 4 Infantry, 1 Settler. 2 Galleons.

We will also need forces for the two interloper cities. Asturias we'll want to capture, assuming it's size 2 (may not be). Nice enough spot. Delft's position sucks, needs to be razed. 4 Cavs, 2 Infantry, 2 Settlers should deal with those. 1 Galleon can handle that, as it only needs to be a ferry service.

Totaling up our needs, I find:
15 Infantry
12 Cavalry
5 Settlers
7 Galleons (our current ones are too busy)

We have plenty of Cavs and upgradeable Knights, plus adequate Pikes and Muskets for the Infantry. Need to produce 5 Settlers and 7 Galleons, which I will endeavor to do ASAP. Various builds tweaked to produce them. Galleons will be ready in 5 turns, Settlers in 2.

I also observe our huge treasury and note that we can't cash-rush anymore. Time for a huge pile of upgrades! Particularly since that will intimidate the AI (I've always found that an impressive army tends to keep the AI more defensive, which is exactly what we want). Spent quite a few thousand on it, but our army is now MUCH more capable. Still have, after next turn, well over 5000 gold left.

Interesting fact: The Aztecs are still in 4th place for score. They're still beating two active civs!

Interturn: ToE completed. Get AT and Electronics, research set to Sanitation.

1500 AD (1): Research set back to 50%, Sanitation in 4 at a profit. I determine that CI can build Hoover in the minimum time (18 turns), so I select that site.

Napa Valley founded on the Wines. York still has one of them, and thanks to our RoP with Portugal, we can use them immediately.

Galleon of Infantry and Settler sent off towards the Silk.

I note we've been keeping garrisons. In most cases now, this is pointless other than for MP duty! With Railroads, we only need to keep garrisons in coastal cities. All other forces should be concentrated for ready access wherever they are needed. This also means we don't need to keep a strong domestic army - the AI is so hopeless at amphibious assaults we can handle anything they throw with only a few units.

Massive redeployment carried out. Our coastal cities are each covered by a single Crusader, Guerilla, or regular Infantry (or Knight Army). A couple Cavs are on the old Iro peninsula to handle the Spanish units there. All other units (aside from expeditionary forces) are gathered in massive stacks outside Chichen Itza for convenient access.

1505 AD (2): Galleons full of Cavalry dispatched towards the Dyes and Incense. Galleon of Cavalry x2, Infantry, and Settler sent towards Asturias.

Will be in position next to the Silks in 1 turn, the Ivory will take some time. But we have some time to let current deals expire. (Silks: 8 turns, Incense: 10 turns, Dyes: 16 turns. 16 turns on the Peace Treaty with Celts, but who cares? There's no extra hit associated with that.)

1510 AD (3): Galleon of Infantry and Cavalry dispatched towards Ivory. Galleons in position to strike at Spain for Silks and Asturias, but we still have a deal in place. Will wait for it to expire to preserve our rep and as much attitude as possible. A couple Aztec workers are headed for Napa Valley.

Interturn: SPHQ completes.

1515 AD (4): Galleons dispatched with Infantry and Settler to Incense and Dyes. All expeditionary forces now en route, descriptively named or fortified at their target waiting for deals to expire.

Interturn: Sanitation comes in, research set to Refining (might as well find out where our Oil supply is). Our people want to build Wall Street, will get to that soon.

1520 AD (5): Science to 80% to get Refining in 4 at a deficit. But hey, that's what the treasury is for.

Interturn: Palenque starts Wall Street, due in 8.

1525 AD (6): Forces are in place at Incense and Silks. Still en route to Ivory and Dyes (which will take a LONG time to get to). We can land at Ivory in 3 turns, Silks in 4, Incense in 6.

Interturn: Portugal has a stack of 2 Frigates and a Carrack near Cattaraugus.

1530 AD (7): Extra Infantry deployed to Cattaraugus. Is Portugal planning an attack???

Interturn: No, they seem to be just passing through. Refining comes in, research Steel next. River Crossing set to UnivSuff for denial purposes.

1535 AD (8): We have 4 sources of Oil, plus 1 more not hooked up yet. Researching Steel at 70%, coming in 4 at a profit.

Interturn: Yax starts the Pentagon. The Celts have a Galleon and pair of Frigates near the Iro peninsula.

1540 AD (9): Aztec workers added to Napa Valley. All deals with Spain are 20 turns old, so I end them, declare war (after extorting their gold and map renegotiating peace), and move in. Forces in position at Vitoria and Asturias. The Galleon from Asturias picks up a new load of troops to head for Delft, and will be able to land them as sourceson as the deals with the Dutch expire.

Interturn: A bunch of troop movement, but nothing substantive. Intelligence Agency completes.

1545 AD (10): Spearman slain and Settler captured by New Uxmal. Asturias razed over the objections of two Spearmen, for crying out loud. We capture a slave. Vitoria is a bit better defended - 3 Pikemen - but falls easily. I raze it and found Silkworm directly on the Silks, where Spanish culture will have a harder time cutting it off from the sea. We get 6 slaves. :D Harbor whipped in Napa Valley for the 2 Aztec pop points.

We have a big treasury and veteran spies, so let's use them. Spy planted in Portugal - they have an impressive 71 Rifles and 22 Cavalry. Also in Celtland - 81 Rifles and 22 Cavs. I also get the Dutch, who have 48 Mercenaries and not much more. Continuing the impressive run of luck, I run the table and plant a spy on Spain too! They're even more pathetic.

Notes: A Galleon has a bunch of Infantry on it, headed for Napa Valley to defend it when we go for the Dyes. Spain won't talk to us yet, our Cavs in Silkworm could be used to wreak havoc until they will.

It appears I went an extra turn somewhere without realizing it, sorry. It's actually 1550. At least we're on round handoff years now. Not a very exciting round - lots of buildings, lots of workers, and some very anticlimactic battles.

Thoughts on the future:
- The Dutch deals will expire shortly. Next turn, IIRC. When they do, wake up the Galleons near Maastricht and go for the Incense - also their annoying town off our west coast, there's a Galleon of troops right there.
- Troops are ready to go after the Ivory - two Galleons fortified right there. Can be done at the next player's discretion.
- The Ivory and Dyes might be harder than we thought - that's a lot of troops. But they may be reluctant to attack fortified Infantry (at least we can hope so...).
- Considering the unexpected power of the Celts, we may just want to bribe Portugal to join us against them when we go for the Ivory. I expect we can give them a tech for an alliance.
- Try to keep our rep intact as much as possible by cancelling all deals before declaring war.

Since 4 of 6 players are currently out or have had recent issues that haven't definitively been resolved, whoever can take it next should go ahead.

lurker's comment: Is it possible that you got yourselves a rep hit by declaring war with a fresh peace treaty and gold deal in place?

Maybe. But we are in such a dominant position now in just all areas that it our rep is pretty meaningless. We're bigger than National Steel. Heh.

The AI civs were not going to trade us luxuries without giving up huge concessions for our tech lead not to mention extraordinary amounts of gold. So we are making strategic expansions into the eastern world for our luxury hungry civilization.

Not according to Microbe's "trading reputation" article in the War Academy. Peace treaties are not "rep-risky," to use his term.

Anyway, who cares? The AIs don't have any hard goods we want. GPT/RoP/MA are about the only things we might conceivably trade for, and those are unaffected by reputation.

I'm back. What is the rotation? I need to check out the save and read recent plays. Could go tomorrow evening or Sunday.

The rotation is very up in the air right now due to the various issues people have been having. If you can play tomorrow evening, probably you should take it.

My new superdrive is ordered, with expected delivery on Monday. Assuming it arrives then, I should be ready to play any time rom Tuesday on. I'll keep you all posted.

It sounds like we may be able to slot back into the normal rotation:

Beamup (just played)
dojoboy (playing now?)
Serkhon (on deck???)
Blue Monkey (hopefully ready to play by the time Serkhon finishes)
frunobolax (hopefully done marking papers?)
Aoxomoxoa

I'll PM Serkhon and fruno, see what their status is.
