COMPLETELY dont understand the game

I'm not a troll, (what is a troll exactly?)

A troll is someone who engages in trolling, which is posting material designed to provoke a response rather than real discussion (the term comes from trolling for fish). In this case, the people accusing you of being a troll were asserting that you weren't really ignorant of Civ4 and Civ games in general, that you were just posting to see if you could get a rise out of people, with an undertone that 'no one would really know that little about civ'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll goes into more detail about the phenomenon.

You'll have to forgive some of us for making that assumption--when people get as involved in something like most of us are with Civ, it's hard to remember what the game was like when they were beginners like yourself. (On top of which, most of us have played several different versions of Civ--I myself go back to the original one for DOS--making the recollection of "beginner's mind" that much more challenging!)

Hello Kerphunk

Don't worry about the troll thing, that doesn't matter. Just keep playing the game and if you don't understand something, just ask for help!

Civ1 on a 286 with only floppy drives for me, none of us would ever restart to get a better map because while the game ran fine, the map generation really took like 10 minutes.

I learned how to play Civ1 with no manual, nobody to ask questions, and no internet. It's not that difficult to pick up the basics with the tutorial.

If you read this guy's other posts, he's either trolling, or plain ignorant/stupid.

pfft. right then hector. n00b. My other posts, like the one about the BS fighting? You wouldn't know critical thinking if it leapt out at you from that computer screen you spend 8 hours a day in front of. I bet you have as bad people skills in real life as you do here.

same for me!
playing Civ 1 for dos on school computers, then on an amiga... that wa,s phew, ages ago!
+ civ 1 was really not THAT complex.
no culture expansion, no real diplomacy...
So I could (and think other did it the same way) find out the concepts at a really slow rate (something new with every game). + other games like Master of Magic used very similar concepts.

I have a really hard time thinking how difficult it would be to start turn based strategy games with cIV and
-religions;
- promotions;
- tech
- commerce/beakers/culture/gold
- upkeep
- stacks
- great people
- modifiers
- diplomacy /relations
-...
without even knowing the concept of pop and growth!:confused:

welcome to real noobs,
don't be shy,
it's a lot of fun because there is real strategy in this game! (there is no automatic play possible here)
