I started my first COTM december 2.
During the weekend my computer chrashed

I had to restart the COTM from the first savefile (4000bc).
Can I submit a C/GOTM when I restarted it?

No. You know the map up to the point where you crashed, and you will not be able to replay it exactly as you did before.

But surely you have an autosave from the turn before the crash? Play forward from that and you will be OK.

No i don't have an autosave from that point.
I had to reinstall Windows XP and delete all files

Ok I will not submit the game, but I will play the COTM to get some Sid practice.
I never played on Sid level before...
Guess how Im doing... :crazyeye:

Ill go for next G/COTM...

Bad luck!

Reinstalling XP shouldn't delete your files, unless you had to do a reformat.

I had to reformat the hardrive, it crashed once again just after i only reinstalled XP.

I could ofcourse just played the game and submit like nothing happened but since i knew the map and where some of the rescourses was, I placed my cities little different from the first game...
And I bet everyone who would look at my game would noticed this.

That depends on the setup apparantly. I had to reinstall the system due to a virus (I traced the virus to a greeting card program my wife DL'ed off download.com btw  ). I chose the system reinstall option during the boot process and the C: drive was installed from a mirror file, exactly as I got it from the dealer.
Which meant I lost my Civ3 installation and all files cause they were on that partition of the hard drive. Luckily I did a backup of all game saves  before going ahead with the process...

Lovely! No warning? Just like that? Good old M$ :)

You can't blame M$ for this one - if it restored from a mirror then it was an OEM restore - you can blame the PC manufacturer for this one! :crazyeye:

A reinstall from a normal M$ disk will never be a wipe, unless you specifically choose to format and ignore the warning :goodjob:

Hi. Welcome :wavey:

Oh! OK. Back to my original thought then. I'm sure M$ will survive my feeble attempt to stain their immaculate reputation, but just in case ... Sorry, Bill!
