Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

I tried that.

Not if you do it right. But you can mess up things if you do it wrong.

Is there a way in FireFox to prevent certain elements from loading to help fix the slowdown I am experiencing in CFC? Because I notice on a separate browser (Opera in this case) that not all of the elements are being loaded (eg. Elements: 55/60).

Can you add them to AdBlock? Or if you know the host name, you can add it to your C:\windows\system32\etc\drivers\hosts file.

CSS is an option. See here for an example that will kill the "Latest News Headlines":

I was reading some stuff on Tor (the anonymous network thing) and someone said "Don't run your torrents through it; that's just evil." Why is that?

My friend has a game on a CD. She often talked about playing it. I have the same game though I didn't really like it. She broke the CD. The disc does not have DRM. Would it be legal for me to make her an ISO image? If not I might consider just mailing her the CD.

I found the longest ETA I've had. It was 35,370 days in the Windows 7 Beta. I was applying attributes (compressed or shared/unshared, probably) to every file on the C:\ (system) drive, which had 4.80 GB of space in use. It didn't take nearly that long. In actual time, my ancient Pentium 4 with 100 GB of space in use on a much slower hard drive took about one day to change all the attributes once - but never estimated that it would take 97 years!

Sometimes in Firefox I want to save my tabs for next session. But not every time. So other than changing the settings every time is there any other way to do this?

EDIT: This looks like something I might like to use but its badly out of date. Any modern alternatives? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sessionpage/

I still use 3.6, but I thought Firefox 4's default home page gave you an option to restore the previous session, even if you hadn't set it to restore the session by default. At least it gave me that option the second time I ran it.

Sometimes if its long enough it will turn to a sideways 8. I think it means something though I dont know what.

That's the symbol for infinity...

Oh

For Google Alerts, has anyone else happened to see more junk coming through? I pick "only the best" for a certain subject but I often get crap such as "free MP3 search for <subject>" or "rapidshare torrent hotfile <subject>" or wotnot. I never really got this stuff a few months ago and its a bit irritating.

Probably been asked a gazillion times before, but what are the best YouTube to mp3 converter sites online that are free, allow multiple downloads (no limits), relatively speedy, and won't give my laptop any STDs?

I've used:

BenderConverter- has downloading limits, so I don't use it anymore

I currently use zamzar.com, however some songs that are converted end up having at least a minute of nothingness (silence) tacked onto them as part of the file, after the song is supposed to have ended. Obviously this is not ideal.

I just use http://www.listentoyoutube.com/index.php . Very simple to use. Easy to download, if all you want is the audio.

I just download the video, demux the audio and convert it if needed

OK, Ive gone off to work on my site a bit. But I came back to ask this one question: I use Firefox 3.6. Whenever I use it to try to download a file to D:/ it always gives me an unknown error. When I save it to D:/tempie it works. Is this some security thing in Firefox or is it just something on my end?

I probably wont be back for a while so Thanks in advance.

When you've uninstalled your display driver and are using the 'standard vga adapter', does it utilize the video card or does it go around it entirely?

IIRC, that's a setting in your BIOS; the drivers aren't telling your computer which GPU to use. If the video card is still attached / installed, you can bypass it via the BIOS, or you can remove the video card and it should use the onboard processor on the motherboard. (it's been a few years and I may be misremembering.)

What are you trying to do do, exactly?
