Holes? as in, you can see through them? Either you spilled something corrosive or....ask your mom, she might be punching holes in them to spite you.

Yes, I can see through them. Very small ones, though. It's almost as though a laser went through them.

Here's a pic from my scanner. I know it just looks like a bump here, but you can actually see light through that little bump. Its best seen against a dark background

(P.S. Most of the "scratches" are actually dust from when my mom left the top of the scanner open after using it)

I see a shadow being cast, which means there is opaque material in there. Looks like you put the cd down on a unclean surface that had small pieces of dust, or something like that and then pressure was applied from the top.

are there any good freeware programs out there that can convert wmv files into flv files for upload to a livestream channel?

For one rare time, aimee has a great answer. VideoHelp is an excellent site for all your video encoding, transcoding, saving, etc, questions.

There was only one program on there that could do what I wanted, and according to the comments, it's basically malware that messes up your computer and refuses to uninstall.

Try again.

Given:
a) HP laptop with built in XP
b) XP installed
c) it is bugged and probably contains a virus
Task: Re-install XP formatting disk C
Problem: C is not formatting because XP installation is using partition C

Help :)

I assume you have the windows XP full install disk. What you need to do is go into the BIOS and tell the laptop to boot from the cd drive instead of the hard drive. And then the menu on the boot up and the menu on the CD will give you the options you need to format c.

I do not have the disk and that is the problem. The laptop came with the XP built in. Otherwise life would have been easy ;)

When you first startup, there may be one or more keys it says to press to go to Setup or something. Try to see if there's recovery partition.

Well, so far I've managed to completely.... mess up the computer by formatting the C drive. I have to try installing with a CD now.

By the way, this link might be useful if you are in the same case as me.

Okay, in Avidemux I opened up a WMV file fine. I imagine if you go to auto > FLV, and save it as Video.flv, it should work. Plus Avidemux is a great tool for editing videos, kinda like VirtualDub but IMHO a bit simpler in some aspects.

Edit:I played the output test video just fine.

You win. Thank you! :D

EDIT: Epic Phail.

It doesn't work with the type of wmv files that I have.

Try again. Again. :p

hmm, interestingly enough, I tried it out on another wmv file and I got encoding failed. I think it doesnt work on WMV9 files, thats my suspicion.

I say we call this a draw.
