IBT: A couple of Spanish pike move north & few English troops move around – Arbela Rifleman->Cavalry – Palace Expansion and our cave gets a front door

Turn 1 – 600 AD – Move a couple of troops around – We’ve got enough troops I think, just not in the right places, I’ll spend my turns setting up the next guy – Trade Nationalism to Aztecs for Ivory + WM + 47g – Sell WM & TM for 10g – China now has Steam Power

I don't think were quite ready for Spain, but they are 2 techs from starting to research Nartionalism. Since China is now willing to sell Steam Power (but for a very high price), I suggest the following:
1. Take the next turn set to finish setting up Army Group Orange
2. Move a rifleman or 2 to each Army group
3. Complete the upgrading of all border garrisons to rifles
4. Finishing the Forbidden Palace (due in 7)
5. Revolt to Republic (I didn't realize we were still Monarchy)

That should complete the setup for the war

To begin the war: Declare War on Spain (get them to declare as our turn starts if possible , ie order their troops to leave) - Trade for Steam Power maybe getting alliance with China vs Spain in the deal (hopefully the price will have dropped by then) - Trade Steam Power to England for alliance vs Spain - Have the cavalry take as many cities as possible - move the riflemen to garrison the new cities - move the Immortals to position to assault Meridia - Hope for a limited counterattack and take some more cites. Hold as many as possible until the English troops arrive to take on the size 12 Spanish cities. Try to take all the smaller cities and let the English fight the big dogs.

One more thing, keep an eye on that Spanish settler in our lands (he's with the MDI). It would be nice if he built a city for us, before the war started, if not 2 more slaves :D

As to the GOTM

A very nice trick by Ainwood. I don't know if you downloaded the first, second or third files. I got the first, which was a 3 X 3 tundra island with normal rest of world. The second (and current on the fake like) is just 4 or five tundra and the third is the real game. I'm probably (if Ainwood says it's ok) going to run a quick game on the first save in the Quick Games Forum with a couple of awards:
1. 1st to get off the island (The Golden Igloo Award)
2. 1st to build the Forbidden (The Bob the Builder Award)
3. 1st to reach the Industrial Age (The Lab Coat of Honor Award)
4. 1st to win by diplomacy (The Silver Tongue Award)
5. To any / all who win (A Silver Pint of Persistance Award)

Hope to see you there

First the SAVE

Preturn- looks good.
IT- English and spanish troops continue to move the way they been doing.
1- workers work. Troops move. China still has monopoly on steam power
IT- Egypt wants to trade WM, sure. English and spanish troops move around. Persepolis cav->cav, Canterbury cav->cav, Susa cav->rifle. Samarra library->rax, Lugo library->rax,
2- Everyone but spain has steam power now and Araba, england, and china also have communism. Buy Steam power from China for 2069 gold. We have 3 sources, one is by Pasargadae which makes it an iron works city! :band::jump:[dance]There is another coal by our city of Izibia out side the borders, but it looks like we have all of the sources on our contienent!:band::jump:[dance]
IT- Spanish troops and english troops move. Looks like the spainish troops are going to merica as they turned toward the penisilia.
3-switch Pasargadae to Iron Works due in 12. Arabia and china have electricity. spain has navigation.
IT-more of the same.
4- RR around Pasargadae droping Iron Work time to 9.
IT- Ashur library->Rax, we get a second floor to the palace.
5- Spain is industrial now. movements.
IT-Aztecs demand TM and 83 gold, tell them to make us pay. They back down. Persepolis cav->rifle. Warwick cav->rifle. Richmond duct->rifle.
6- RR continues, troops movements. China has a monopoly on medicine.
IT- a bunch of spainish troops leave their lands in the south, heading north. Arbela rifle->rifle. Izibia library->rax.
7- join 2 workers in Pasargadae, pop 10 now. need to get production up. now at 21 per turn. most of the civs have PP.
IT- Spainish troops continue north, more appear, Eridu cav->rifle. Zariqum rax->duct.
8- Join 2 more workers and Pasargadae is pop 12, MM Pasargadae for best production at 27 per turn. That with double in 3 turns with Iron Works coming in to 54 per turn.
IT- more spanish troops march. I hope they are not for us. Canterbury cav->rifle. aztecs build smiths,
9-our income dropped by 200 gpt. movements.
IT- Persepolis rifle->rifle. Susa rifle->rifle. China is building ToE,
10- movements.

The army groups are almost finished. spain still doesn't have nationalism. There might be a trade option we can do but i will leave it to the next player. Arabia and china have electricity, buy that then trade it to england and try to get medicene and PP, then trade to egypt to get communisim. IW is due in one in Pasargadae

Very nice work :goodjob:

If we can get to Spain before they get Nationalism, we'll be fighting Cavalry vs Rifles :)

How many turns left in the peace deal?

Those Spanish troops are travelling with Settlers, making an attack unlikely. We should also prepare to kill there escorts to add to our slave population. Is it time to take another bite out of Spain or should we concentrate on being nice to the world for a diplomatic victory chance?

If we do go to war with Spain, we should be sure to get Cadiz, Shuruppak & Ellipi as those are the 3 cities with oil potential, something we'll need. We've only got a few desert tiles and those are only our current for oil. It would be nice to get Palma, Eiche, Teruel & Meridia (again), but those are second level goals. Again we'll need England as an ally to preclude a second front. Of course we could go the opposite direction and take on England with Spain as an ally. If we could grab the 4 western English cities and a couple of her border cities we'd put her in real trouble.

Or we could just parlay our coal monopoly into techs & cash and try to make nice for the rest of the game. If we time the pre-build right, we might be able to get the UN and be in the victory vote.

I've forgotten  but where is our Forbidden Palace?

It looks like we're in third as far as land is concerned. With either the Spanish or English land grab we'd probably be in second. The Aztecs look bigger (but seem lagging in tech, probably from lack of infrastructure). If we could somehow get the other continent into a world war (they'd switch to communism) we might be able to snatch the tech lead and beat the world to the Modern Age, where our tech bonus would give us a big edge.

Time for Gozpel to get to work on locking this one into the win column :D

When I found out about the Iron Works I switched the FP we were building in Pasaragdae to Iron works. I wanted to get the production up. So when Iron Works is completed in 1 turn. Switch to the FP and we should get it in 4 turns.

I'm away BTW from today afternoon until Sunday or Monday. Skip me in that time if I'm up.
