Congratulations to CFC for getting us FREE DLC! (the mongols)

Did you people even read the whole news. It states that the patch might be ready during this week and the DLC comes out on monday. So the patch should be out before the DLC is.

I was waiting something like this anyway its not really big suprise that they give something for free. Next expansion is anyway going to have all the DLC that was made before it so most of the copies are on the same level and work together perfectly.

Maybe this is in another thread, but I also note in that post that Babylon will be available for only $5.

There was grousing before release that a civ wasn't worth $10, but might be worth $5. Sounds like 2k agrees.

Musta been a company guy tossing that false comparison out there. Five dollars is too much for one civ. Two dollars might be reasonable, one dollar even better. Or dump the whole DLC idea and just save it all for a couple of expansions! Oh but then they can't milk you.....

Yay Mongols! :goodjob:

Was there ever any mention of a schedule of new civs or DLC before the release of the first expansion?

But at least the PR is bad in this case, they should have waited until the patch is out.

Who said this is coming out before the patch? The patch could possibly be out this week.

Looking at this pic...

Spoiler :

It seems that Khan is replacement for Great General?!?

This also looks very much like a scenario to me. The Great Wall is present and Karakorum is positioned very close to where you would expect it to be in relation to northern China.

I think all Civs should have their own scenario!

Free DLC used to be called a patch.

I think they're not referring to it as a patch because it has no bug fixes, just...a scenario and a leader.

Not to mention that there will be a patch and the DLC is not included.

High-speed internets has made us gamers spoiled. Once upon a time, patches were called expansions. They cost money and took years to arrive. Now are like...three weeks and no patch?111111111wtf. Rabid.

...It definitely is a marketing ploy though. Damage control.

...
Don't be fooled, this was totally planned.

How much fault can be found with something free? You get it and it's done.

Y'all are like one of those girls that hate when someone buys them dinner because they think that you'll think they "owe you something", but if you wanna split the check they'll still hate you.

You are correct. It's the scenario. Explains why there is a city named Western Xia in non Chinese colors. :p

The setup is reasonably accurate and I'm sure they did it to show off what scenarios can look like and what the Khan UU is.

I do agree that it'd be cool if all Civs had their own scenario. :)

I'd much rather have an excellent game and have to pay for the Mongol DLC (My favourite Civ) then have a mediocre game with a free DLC.

It's a start but they better not think that everything's hunky dory now though.

Oh and if you don't understand the dating game well, here's a good explanation: ;)

Again with posters who can't help but to demean fellow fanatics. This is ok???

Look, my point was not to say we shouldn't be grateful for free DLC. It was to say not to fool yourself into thinking it was released for free by 2K for any reason other than good PR.

I'm starting to think a bigger issue is that for such a well organized group (the quality lauded in the free DLC press release), we're really disrespectful to each other.

I blame Microsoft (not that I'm one of those people that always finds fault with them). The gave a web browser away for free and then we all started asking "what else could they give us for free?" and for some reason we came up with the answer "everything".

Anyone have any idea on what "the Khan" does compared to a regular GG? I think they'll just change the combat bonus and ignore the fortress and Golden Age stuff. Then again... didn't the Mongol Conquest of northern China create a School of Arts/Theatre in northern China?

First 5$ for a Civilization DLCs? really? IMO, that's too much.
Maybe it was going to be 2.50$. Then they decided to charge 5$ for one and give the other one for free. A sort of PR customer service control, and a bad one at that, but effective since "OMG it's free".
But what about all the bugs, and core design problem? Who cares?@@!@ we got FREE DLC.

FFS no one... NO ONE in their right minds says so. Seriously WTH?

The patch is supposedly coming this week BEFORE DLC. It's not magical and won't fix all the problems, but the rest will follow. So what's the problem exactly? Damage control or not... If you stubbornly don't want this DLS until a few more patches will arrive then don't download it until a few patches arrive. If you're against any, including free DLC until the game is fully patched/fixed, then wait for 3-4 years. But I gotta tell you, it might never happen.
