I got a new CD drive on Friday. Inexplicably, since the moment I installed it my Internet connection's decided to become FUBAR, taking minutes even to load the Google.com page, never mind forums and other complicated places which take a few minutes to load, each page, assuming they don't time out. Is it a freak coincidence with my installing the new CD drive or could they be related?
P.S. it's a common cable connection, no wireless.

It's possible there's a connection if some part of the programs that run the connection got messed up. Hard to say for sure. Did you try Windows Repair?

Is it possible accidentally loosened another cable installing it?

A lot of the time when a part seems to be in limbo (Works sometimes, doesn't work sometimes) it's because something has become loose. Perhaps when you were in there putting the new CD drive in you accidentally loosened the ethernet card (or if you're on dial-up, the internal modem)? Try pulling the card out and putting it back in. That's the first thing I would try in this scenario anyways...

If it keeps fudgingg up tonight then I'll take it apart once again tomorrow morning when I get some light. :)

Rummaged around poked and probed, no fault on my end apparently, the ISP looks to be to blame. *dramatic pose* To the complaints division!

Yay apparently solved for now.
