When I play the AI, I expect to conquer the World, on an unexplored map, by 1000BC. If not, I consider myself to have failed (I rarely fail though).

Is there anyone else who plays like this? Why do people bother trying to get high scores when conquest and blood are the only ways to assert your authority?

Please share your ideas for consistantly conquering random maps by 1000bc.

What settings do you use?

As for "asserting authority," I take a distinct pleasure in subduing the natural world to the will of my civilization. And high scores are the measurement of success in such an approach to the game.

When it comes to the "iron and blood" of conquest, I'll prefer the realism of a proper WWII game.

Funny, I didn't see anyone completing the first game of the month before 1000 BC.

Hey Blitz, where ya been? You get MP yet?

As far as conquering the world by 1000bc, all I can do is *yawn*. Civ isn't just about destruction, it's about creation and grandeur. And besides, if you kill everyone that early, you don't get to play with any of the fun units

I don't think of civ as a "quickie" type of game. It wasn't designed like an arcade game...why play it like one?

The best way to conquer the World rapidly is to use your opponents cities as cluster bases for expansion. I haven't played any GOTM yet, and this months starts in about 1400BC anyway, so that's a bit tough.

Yeah Drake, I've got an MP computer. Next week I'll get the advanced version of the game.

I agree with Drake, but I would love to know in alittle more detail as to how to win by 0BC. You have given only vague ideas. I have heard about players getting Armor in 800 A.D., How the hell do you do that? I would love to knowas do other non-Expert players

Conquoring the world by 0BC must get boring afterawhile. I like expanding and making a fully developed civ.

As to speed though, i won a multiplayer game in under 10 turns

This one way that I got close to the early ad's but never had all the civ's close enough to win under 1000bc.

Mass exploration at the start of the game can be a good way to get on top early.

Starting with two settlers is the way to go.

Send them out exploring making sure to grab All the goodie huts, once you have found the first civ, build close to the civ's capital (hopefully it is their only city). You should have got allot of units, gold, and some techs (if you don’t have enough units to stage and attack keep scouting for more huts. Next surround the Civ's capital and either wait for him to attack (they mostly will only have one or two units) or just let lose. As this is taking place your other settler is off trotting the globe with some support of course and he's off to do the same to the next civ.

A small map, with most of the civ's on the same continent works best, or a pre- made map where you can manipulate where the AI starts (by using the map editor).

Note: I am sure what I have discovered had been thought of long before I made note of it and most likely not thought of again (this method dose not work all the time).

I like expanding and building up empires

Well, it must be close to the Armageddon. Lord, you know that I won’t fly by that lesson you taught me, to pull out my Wesson you brought me, and i’m not stressin’ it softly. Get ‘em up off me, ‘cause all we wanted harmony, been bombin’ ‘em. Yell up outta my ghetto, “I won’t settle,” get on my level.

if it was that easy to win... i would stop playing, so i'm not even going to try it.

(and that way, i can't fail either

If you play with the max # of rival civs on a large planet, how do you even find all of the others? Let alone conquer them all before 1000 B.C.?
Or do you play on chieftan?

welll... only once i was able to conquer the world before 1000bc... it happened accidentaly in about 15 turns... i used a large world map, king level, and 3 civilizations. we all were in europe, entered a hut just besides my settler, produced knights... and the world was mine.

Is it a large map? If you have 7 civs and have dead ones re-spring I don't see how 1000B.C. is possible.

Actually with OCC(or even with 4 or 5 cities), I've gotten Mobile warfare well in the B.C.'s under cheifstan, under diety I can usually get it by 1700(I never tried O.C.C. under Deity).

Frankly, I prefer having grand empire with 70-80 cities and a high percentage at the end. I usually take to world domination only rarely and have succeeded in doing so a couple of times before 1000 b.c.Only once hav e I done it King level when I was playing on the small world map where most of the Ai tribes were very close to me. But still I like to build a 40+ size city, see cities with shield prod of over 120 and also trade above 120. It gives me a childlike thrill to do so.

Well said AllhailIndia. I also like to develop my civ rather than just go all out for conquest. Of course, in the end, if I have developed properly, then world domination does enter the equation, but that's a sort of by-product (if these pesky civs would just be happy to see me being wonderful and stop thinking they had to interfere it would be fine!). If that is childlike, then fair enough - I never wanted to grow up anyway

I have never ever conquered the entire world BC at all. Of course, I tend towards large maps, lot's of other Civ's which makes it hard, and I generally don't want to win that early. Not to say that I *could* do it, but I don't even want to try...
