Conquests Beta Patch Now Available

Remember, it is a beta patch not an official release = we're quality assurance this time round.

I understand that. I have been working for 2 different software companies for 6 years now, though never as a developer. Always front end and thus resonsible for deliveries. It is perfectly normal beta testers find some bugs within a day.

What bothers me: The FP/corruption bug is a major one that has been discussed here and at other places a lot.

I think we can agree it is the major bug. Within an hour of testing, it appears to be not fixed. That doesn't exactly give me a good feeling about Firaxis' own capabilities of testing.

Furthermore, I still feel a bit uncomfortable with the PBRM cheat bug. I perfectly understand that only a small percentage of the Civ players use PBEMs at all. So, I can understand that PBEM-only bugs will not be addressed immediatly. But it was reported fixed, while it was not. That is unacceptable, me thinks.

Thanks... that means i will be reinstalling and waiting for the official patch.

Yup!

BTW:
When loading 'Age of Discoveries', the corruption bug (colonial palace) was never there in 1.00. So Firaxis must know how to fix it, I guess.

True. ;)

Anyone else noticed the difference in loudness of the sound
effects.Conquests without the beta patch didn't seem to
have it.It's not as frustrating as the corruption bug,but
still annoying.

The corruption bug isn't fixed? Awesome. The only one that really bothered me.

Thanks Firaxis (and Breakaway?!) for putting in the effort and not simply sighing and saying, "We'll do it in the new year." :)

People don't often make as much effort to report their gratitude as they do negative feedback -- a shame, but a very human and often inescapable reaction.

I'm sure I'm only reiterating what you already know!

Anyhow, when you do get a chance to leave the office for the festive season -- I hope it's an enjoyable and stress free time. :)

FWIW RCP 'fix' is fixed!

As hoped for cities at same distance (RCP), city rank is now based on database order.

The jury is out on what affect the FP changes are, but it appears not to act as a second palace (there is still corruption in the FP city after the FP is built).

Please note that all tests were done in new games, not reloaded old ones.

Thanks to KingReno for the quick testing!

Just incase i'm downloading a 14 Mb file with a 56k modem for no reason, does the patch work on all versions of C3C? (UK,US etc)

And is corruption reduced at all? Is it only in the FP city that it isn't as it should be?

Thanks in advance :)

BreakAway Games is not involved in creating the patches.

Since the major bug is not fixed yet, I see no reason to report gratitude.

So far, We have a bug that wasn't even in any Vanilla or PTW version.

I think showing gratitude, when someone puts in effort, but doesn't actually help, is also a very human reaction ;) .

Yes, Gainy, the patch will work on your version of the game as well. :)

Even before conquests I'd get from time to time corruption in my capital, never mind the FB city.

P.S I have never used Communism BTW.

It is reduced a bit, but not enough I think.

KoC:

The FP corruption was significant - not just the 1/20 you get in capital.

The easy way is to do the following:

1. PRIOR to patching, create a folder called 'Release' in the Conquests root folder <civilization III\conquests\>.

2. COPY all of the root files (NO FOLDERS!) into 'Release'

3. In the 'Release' folder create a folder called 'Text'

4. Copy the contents of the Text Folder (conquests root folder\text\) into the 'Release\Text' folder

5. Install the Patch

6. In the Conquests root create a folder called 'Patch'

7. Perform Steps 2-4 but use the 'Patch' folder in place of 'Release'

6. To switch between them Enter the folder for the version you want to use, then press

Ctrl-A (select All),
Ctrl-C (Copy Selected)
Backspace (Go Back a folder)
Ctrl-V (Paste Stored)

7. Say 'Yes to All' at the Overwrite message.

8. Repeat steps as necessary to switch between versions.

I will verify the answer to the SAVES question, but I believe you must start a New Game.

Also, I'm trying to post individual language versions but its not as easy at it should be! Hopefully they will be available tomorrow.

Happy Holidays!!

Jesse

So, after I do this, I just play, and if the files are in the "patch" folder, than it will have the patch, but if they're in the "release" folder they won't? :thanx: so much!
