The mob is getting restless... release the damn game!

I know! And then you'll all be on *my* back because you've spent two continuous days and nights playing it and you'll DEMAND the right to submit it IMMEDIATELY. :cry: Some people have no mercy :sad:

Huh mercy? we don't even know the civ we are going to play. That means that I don't have PTW or C3C I am not sure if I will be able to play this at all! If this one about Arabs I am in trouble... unless I check some stores with *cough* very high discount *cough*

Yeah, Mercy! Read it and weep: The Arabs are in the vanilla download packs.

This lack of info is starting to spook me. I just know we won't like what we see.

Well, I gave up on the last game because I was aparently far more rusty than I thought. My capital went into disorder once and I kept forgetting to micro-manage--I figure by 1000BC I had wasted at least two settlers by forgetting to move citizens around. I've been playing a lot the rest of the month though, so I should be ready for this game. I think. Hell, if it's Sid, I think I'll go for a OCC just to make things even more insane. I'm hoping for Monarch, but I'll take whatever I get.

As for the starting location, I can't see a damn thing under the fog. There's a strange amount of orange on the edge of the E/E tile, but as it's right on the corner I can't imagine what it could be. It doesn't look like anything I've seen in the game. I'm thinking the scout NW/N, and the worker E to check out the river. I'm going to move the worker anyways, so I might as well scout with the little idiot.

Oh, and are we setting a record with the least info 12 hours prior to release? Do we have to set this record? Knowing which civ lets us plan our research options.

maybe it's the dutch/english capitol, established 4050bc, you know, to give us a real challenge... :rolleyes:

re: the lack of starting info- this could be a really interesting game if the start is as poor as it looks (i.e. no 'settler factory for rent' sign over the hill)- when was the last time there was a GOTM start so dry, and lacking resources (@GOTM vets)? well, it will definitely require an atypical starting strategy to catch up to the AI in the early game! :undecide:

If we're going to need to catch up, I'm really hoping it's no harder than monarch. Even if there are three cows just a little ways off, what are the odds people will find it?

re Stonewolf:

Heh, sounds like you need to sit down for a while to plan your game before you open the save. Fiddle around with a test game with the chosen civ, and see how the tech tree works vs potential trade and general strengths and weaknesses of that civ.

And, what I use to do: Take a few minutes to contemplate each turn the first 10 turns or so. After that you will have to stick to your horses and just ride it out. But allways do a quick mental checklist before you hit that blinking end turn button.

Yeah, I jumped back into the game too quickly. Still, even with that crappy start I had two wonders built at 1025 BC, so I'm not totally hopeless.

Isn't that cheating? :undecide:

@Stormbind

Not really, as long as you aren't actually playing the GotM game. If you make up a game with the same civ and (if you're determined) AI civs, and then keep re-starting until you get a similar start area, you really aren't learning anything about the GotM. You're just learning how to play that civ. It isn't going to tell you what civs are closer, or what the landmass is like, or what the AI civs are going to do.

@Abegweit

Don't tease, it's cruel. :nono:

Stone Wolf,

Sounds like restarting until you get a good start. Would you restart to keep learning the unfamiliar Civ if you get a lucky start? :p

I didn't say anything about restarting, I'm just talking about playing the civ that you're going to be playing in a similar environment.
