Conquests COTM01 Speculation Thread

Ak, there's a river nearby... couldn't it be more arid? :p

re: #1- yeah, my ego has been getting pretty big by getting to smack around the AI in the GOTM b/c of the capitol settler factory phenomenon- nothing wrong w/this savvy use of food resources IMO, but it's a bit of a spoiler getting to start out multiple wheats/cows next to one's settler...[insert 'look gift horse in mouth smiley here'].
hmmmmm...note to self: keep brilliant ideas to self...

I shouldn't disagree with SirPleb and DaveMcW. After all they are class acts. However, I only agree with them that the Scout should move NW then N. After that whatever is revealed will change any plan. Ainwood put the river to our east to tempt us. Perhaps there is grassland on the other side and we should not move north. After all we are fairly far north on the map to begin with. My plan is a one move plan. Scout NW, then N. Then make a new plan.

The forum really has died off here the last couple of days. Guess everybody waiting patiently? impatiently? for June 1.

ainwood, ainwood, wherefor art thou ainwood.

Hmm you know what that hill to the NW,N won't show you much anyway... as you can see there is a mountain to the north east of it and definetely forests to the east so they gonna block a view to the valley of river anyway. The only thing you will be able to see is that tile of forest to the east has game or not. So I would move a scout to that mountain to the west from the starting spot and a worker to the east and depending on what I see a settler to the east or north. I will head west only if a scout sees a flood plain paradise with a lot of wheat

There is allways the chances of floodplains in the S SW, heh, maybe with a stack of wheat or two? :) So perhaps a wild dash across the desert with the scout will reveal a land of promises.

The minimap isn't all that helpful, but a SW direction would statisticly give the capitol a better placement for those of us who think palacejump was the last act of mad kings in the old days...

There is also a chance that ainwood while reading our speculations is editing the map to add a twist to the game and while you all head north west north I will find flood plains to the west and Singularity promised land to the south

And on the 7th day, Ainwood saw His creation was good, and he added the players to the world. In plentiful they came, for it was a bank holiday, and there was much rejoicing and praise to Him.

Hint, hint, hint.....

Do Swiss bankers have holidays as well? I assumed a Bank Holiday was a Britsh invention :hmm:

:shakehead OoooohhhhhH.....

My hope goes to an easier level after finishing my second GOTM with my second Spaceship loss. But no it seems like a :suicide: situation for me.
Please ainwood put two cows near the settler.

[wispering mode] Perhaps only for me [/wispering mode]

:worship:

Perhaps the challenge of GOTM32 will be for our civ to discover its own identity, rather than being told it by the GOTM admins... :crazyeye:

re: self-discovery

One trait makes you expansive
and one trait fills your id
But the 2nd trait that ainwood gives you
Gets you ready for playing Sid

Go ask ainwood--on his New Zealand atoll

 !Bravo, KOA!

I think it might be Sid. Ainwood is delaying the bad news for as long as possible. :) Think about it. If he had said sid straight off the bat this thread would have been met with stoney silence. And a few WTH? posts. :)
I know. I always say it is going to be sid and i'm always wrong. But, do you know what? One day I'll be right and then you'll be sorry. You'll come running to me and ask me to let you all in to my sid proof bunker and I will laugh at you in your abject misery. :twitch:

I think you're right samildanach. And I think we're on a small island with the Zulu, Aztec and Babylon with 75% of the land being deserts or mountains.

samildanach,

You're right AND wrong. You are right in that you will be wrong again. ;) No way ainwood would give us so little food on the sid level.

Interesting discussion about the starting moves! I'm really tempted to head W, W with scout, but both NW, N and SE, S is also plausible. The only conclusion to draw is that three scouts would be nice. Edit: I've ruled out W,W. The river to the east will be the prime target.

The mob is getting restless... release the damn game!
