Console Games Thread

PNP does have a recharghable battery, I think...not too sure. Check out gamefaqs...there's a link to an article where I read some of the specs on the product.

Okay everyone, sorry for the mistake. PNP=PSP

And the PSP isn't coming out until the same time Final Fantasy XI is coming out (early 2004) so I think it's a bit too early to make any judgments on it.

On a side note, the Nokia N-Gage costs a whopping $299! Plus it looks terrible since it's supposed to be a cell phone as well, so it's stuck in between.

All must bow down to the great Sega Saturn avatar.

Now.

Don't worry, Silverflame, I'll change it before too long ;).

Nice to see everyone's getting console related avatars now :)

Sega Saturn is easily the most underrated console ever, which makes it all the more lovable :mischief:.

Even I'll second that. There were more decent games than it gets credit for (namely Panzer Dragoon). I almost feel sorry it fell through; almost being the key word. ;)

Sony has another PSX coming out:

Nothing as much as another generation though. Basically, it's just a PS2 with a harddrive and a DVD burner. The new PSX does not change gameplay from the PS2. It's being released in Japan late this year and in North America and Europe in 2004.

I wonder if they're releasing it to prolong the life of the PS2 operating system. The average console life is supposed to be 5 years; maybe Sony is having difficuties getting their platform for the next generation together?

DVD burner? Wouldn't that encourage people to burn PS2 DVDs?

I wonder how much the new PS will cost. It has a hard drive; don't the PS2 hard drives cost $40 or so? It might turn out to be a better deal if the cost is right.

Yeah, that's what I think too. I heard Sony's waiting for a "Cell" chip or something that's not coming until 2007, so that might be when the PS3 comes. I heard Nintendo wants it's next console to be 2005, and Microsoft will probably be somewhere in between.

It's a 120GB harddrive. That's pretty dang big, considering the Xbox harddrive is only 8GB. I have a feeling that the price of the PSX is in the same boat as the PSP. They both have way too many features to be sold at a low price, but a higher price would scare customers away.

If the theory that whoever gets their console out first wins is true, then Nintendo should get a huge lead on Sony/MS. I just hope that quality doesn't suffer as a result in Nintendo's race to get their's out first. It would be nice to see the other two finally fall on their face. Any word on Microsoft's new system?

April video game sales are out. Splinter Cell on the PS2 claimed the top spot.

Meanwhile I was wondering what everyone was thinking about the N-Gage. It's a handheld/cellphone made by Nokia that's appearantly supposed to do the same thing the PSP is supposed to. Of course, being priced at $300, I doubt it will sell. It's games aren't the greatest either. Looks pretty ugly too :p

If that Nokia guy thinks that a 25 adult male will feel intimidated by bringing a GBA out in public, what makes the N-Gage look "cooler"? It looks worse than a regular GBA, let alone a SP. Just search "N-Gage" on Google and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah, I have to agree that it does look horrible. Like a VCR controller that has too many buttons, except you're playing a game here, not trying to change the channel.

I love this line:
"'[It will reach] a different and potentially larger' target than Game Boy,"and "Game Boy is for 10-year olds." It reminds me of Steve Martin commenting on the first Harry Potter movie, coming out the same week as one of his:
"Harry Potter only appeals to a certain audience; that being everybody. So anybody who isn't part of this audience will see my film." (probably not the exact quote, but close ;) ).
10-year olds? Not many 10-year olds I know are playing Castlevania, or Golden Sun. Its only the most popular gaming platform ever, but hey, that won't stop 'em. Sony's entering the market too, of course, but my money's on GB.
