Cookbook #1 (Sally, Immortal)

I think several reasons make extremely fast expansion pay off on this map
  • cities will be very close to capital
  • cities will be connected easily due to river
  • there are good tiles, even unimproved
  • this is not deity
Also low :)-cap makes sharing those floodplains more attractive. Leader's traits also matter. The optimal play might be different if we were say Washington with cheap granary and higher :)-cap.

I like what Sampsa and Powerfaker did, but the barb situation in both games is alarming.
1. Mscellaneous - seems the strongest of the rest, even if lacking commerce a bit. Special bonus for scouting boat:thumbsup:
2. Sampsa - 3 cities and 3 workers! Pigs will be improved on the next turn, and boat will be whipped 2 turns later. Nothing to complain about, exept bad luck with barbs.
3. Wrathful - kind of similar to the 1st one, but no boat and copper. More warriors though. I'd build a worker on size 2(or even 1) in Medina.

Tonny's and Olafeson's saves look good too.
Swordnboard's is weird. Second and third cities don't contribute. I'd rather have one city but with improved food (Tonny) or a bunch of cottages (Olafeson).
Undefeatable - curse that fish city!

Yes, I'm a bit surprised some saves with huge safety issues have received a lot of votes. Barbs probably won't take our cities ;), but even a barb city popping to the stone area is very annoying.

Hmm, I think they contribute a decent amount even without improved tiles. +6:food:+3:hammers:+1:commerce: per turn in total I think.

I actually missed his save:blush: His approach is similar to Olafson's, but there is a problem. Guess what it is...
Spoiler :
Yeah, no spawnbust at all!
Yes, huge uncertainty factor... As sampsa says, defending against a few barbs will be no biggie, can chop warriors if things get really dicey. However a barb city spawning (preferably in a moronic position) close to wheat would be a huge headache.

I think Mscellaneous has the best save. 3 cities, 2 workers, 2 work boats completed, good barb defense, a cottage under construction, and a copper pop to top it all off. However, since he leads by 10 points he is guaranteed to win (unless people change their votes), so he doesn't need my vote.

My votes:
  • 3 points - Sampsa. 3 cities, 3 workers, pigs improved next turn, and it looks like a work boat will be whipped in Medina soon. He can still go for the Pyramids too. The only thing to criticize is bad luck with the barbs, but I don't think that bad luck should disqualify someone's save. After all, Lain wins tough maps all the time, and he is known for his streaks of bad luck.
  • 2 points - Olafeson. More emphasis on cottages and economic development. I am interested to see if the earlier cottage approach beats the fast expansion approach in the long run. He is also in position to improve the pigs in 2 turns and has a settler underway. Good barb situation too.
  • 1 point - 6K Man. 3 workers and the pigs are already done. I respect the safe choice to go for Archery. Expansion is behind the others, but maybe he can catch up with the pigs improved. Fogbusting situation is decent. It also appears that binary research isn't being used - a minor mistake.
Honorable mentions:
  • Powerfaker - Already has pigs improved and a few cottages done. A settler is well on its way in Mecca. Scouting out the AI is an interesting approach. I would say that the best use for the warrior by Shaka's territory is to watch for any stacks of doom coming for us. Barb defense suffers, however. Unless I am mistaken, the desert tile 3NE of Mecca is not fogbusted, so an archer could spawn there.
  • Undefeatable - Interesting approach with settling ocean fish first. Tech path seems a bit off, I might have gone for Pottery before Animal Husbandry. Only one worker. Perhaps the worker turns spent connecting Damascus should have been spent chopping.

Let me cast my votes after a lot of consideration.

Undefeatable: 2 points
6kman: 2 points
c^3: 2 points

Why?
I could have gone with the saves what are discussed and voted to be the top ones, but I'd like see different approaches to see played. Therefor no
favorite.

Undefeatable:
The only one to go for fish. I'd like see to see how it plays out. A lot of discussion already has been made about this approach.
6kman:
The only one who goes for archery as a possible barb counter. It could be the right way with all the jungle up north. Who knows?
c^3:
The only one who has stone hooked up already for the Pyramids and fail gold. Does it help to catch up with teching?

Special mentions:
@sampsa and @krikav with their bad luck on barbs. In my book they would have gotten a point too, just to relieve their pain ;).

After examining all games, i decided that Olafeson's save (4th place) will also be available for playing next round.
It's different enuf with cottage development, compared to our 3 winners.

This goes with taking feedback into account, that you guys like having different options for next round,
but should not been seen as guarantee for the future :)
Different approach games will have to convince enuf peoples, following cookbook principles.

Next round opened

Timeline: 1 week, playing possible until (and including) Saturday 8th,
with discussions starting again on Sunday.

Who can play?
Everybody :) If you missed round 1, no biggie you can play now.

I think we should rename our submitted saves with something that helps us keep track of the chain.
For example "T70Krikav_T45Sampsa" if I decide to go with sampsas save.

Will not add important info for me. However adding a keyword about state or plan could be something, f.ex. WonderWhoring, StillRexing, DowingSoon, etc.
F.ex. "T70Krikav_Cottagespamming".

Or someone could make a spreadsheet with that info. :mischief: I don't intend to make any charts with masses of numbers from now on, but could certainly try to gather some info about all the saves to a spreadsheet.

Continued from mscellaneous's save. Was also pondering the possibility of continuing from other saves, but went with the uber-stronk save.
