Cool sounding National Anthems

But if I can mention a march, it would be Stars and Stripes Forever. It's the best piece of march music ever written!

I like Brazil's, but there always seems to a very long instrumental intro before the actual singing starts.

I like the marchy aspect of the lion's share of national anthems.

Though what would be most of your opinions on slow ones like "God Save the Queen" and "O Canada" (what others are there?)

I have to admit, watching the England games, it sounds a lot less mellow listening to all the limey football fans singing it at the top of their lungs.

The Danish is quite slow

BTW - there is any Internet adress where is possible to download national anthems and also ( more important in fact for me ) their lyrics ???

Please help me !!

Regards

My national anthem (the Canadian one) is rather slow, it's ok I guess but there's no energy in it....then again I have to listen to it every day so maybe it's just me. But The Soviet National Anthem is very good, the old Internationale and the newer one are very good, I don't see what you see in Horst Wessel, it was pretty bad in my opinion....but as the old saying goes 'Your opinion doesn't matter'

The Australian national anthem is also pretty slow and lacks any sort of energy or "excitement"..

We should really hire Rammstein or some other kewl band to write us a new national anthem. It'd be kewl to hear an Australian national anthem in the tune of "Engel" :)

I like our national anthem, Ambrán Na bhFiann (The Soldier's Song.) But I do like the German and Italian anthems.

I'd appreciate god save the queen more if i believed in god or, for that matter, the monarcy. As for the rest, i'll agree that La Marseillaise, the usa, and the soviet anthems are fairly stirring.

I used to like the old Soviet one. I wonder why so many other people do too. Is it because it was genuinely good? Or is it because we used to hear it so much at the Olympics when the U.S.S.R. used to win more golds than anyone else? I only wish we'd change the British one to something rousing like "Land of Hope and Glory" (Tune to Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March #1).

I agree. God save the queen must be the worlds dullest anthem.
Besides, i dislike the royal family.

Best anthem = soviet without a doubt.

I find the Saudi anthem rather jolly and jumpy for a national anthem - or have i just heard a VERY bad MIDI of it?

The old Russian anthem was a horrible piece of trash...I found the Russian buerau of consular affairs and got it from there.

To make it easy for people to hear them, here are the MIDIs of my top 3... beware that the MIDIs are pretty crappy for grat national anthems, but they will give the basic idea. The USSR anthem and the Russian anthem are often mixed up... if it sounds whimpy, you're heard the Russian anthem (as in the last Olympics). If it is powerful, with an inspiring beat you could march to, then it's the Soviet anthem. The German anthem is similarly inspired, if you hear it in real life.

USA

USSR

German

The USSR anthem is particluarly good for inspiring masses to trudge through terrible weather to fight yet another battle....
