Goody Huts:
Goody huts have caused some game balance issues previously, where some players have got settlers or cities from goody huts, and some have missed-out. This month, (on a trial basis) the game rules have been modified so that a hut that would have given a settler will instead give a worker (as discovered by Roland Ehnström and TimBentley ).

Conquest-Class Bonuses:
  1. Start with 100 gold.
  2. Start with an extra worker and an extra scout.

Predator-Class Equalisers:
  1. Barbarian Attack Bonus removed.
  2. AI Unit Support increased to emperor level.
  3. A unit unique to one civilization has had its defence strength increased by 1.

Once you have opened the save file, DO NOT post in this thread or the Pre-Game discussion thread!

If you have any problems in you game, then please PM me or another staff member, or E-mail me at gotm@civfanatics.net

You can download the saves from:
here; or failing that from here.

Good luck! You'll need it! :D

Arrrr, good luck? I'll need it? I'm having second thoughts about 100k anyway. Has Ainwood created a monster? I'm going to find out right now!!!

I wonder if this means the local goody huts aren't removed like normal. I guess I will just go find out. :)

I'd bet we share our landmass only with Greece...

How about the Dutch? Swiss mercs, with a defense of 5 (though the Dutch don't fit the historical perspective as well) ...

Or Chinese Riders with 4 defense? That would be painful for our keshiks...

But I'm still going to play predator!

You can't scare me, Ainwood! ;)

Maybe I shouldn't have said that last bit out loud? :p

I also decide go to 100K (first time for me). ;)

Somebody else?

I'm trying to 100k as well (but i don't have the illusion to think I'm going to be anywhere near the fastest finish :D )

I am very intrigued :scared:
Hope to start it in 1-2 days.

I have one quick question: I can't find where to turn quick unit movement off. I loaded up the game today and all my and the enemy units where going really fast. (This is bad for strategy). It wasn't like this earlier and I can't find the button - help! :(

edit: nevermind. I clicked animate moves off then on, now it works again :crazyeye:

Not sure if anyone else has been having problems with the save but thought I would mention this to see if any are, the game keeps crashing on me. I can't locate the cause but while its not repeatable its recurring, when I hit F1, it crashes. It doesn't always do it, but after playing for a little while. For instance it crashed in 1100BC after pressing F1, once I ran it again and loaded up 1100BC, I could press F1 normally. Then it happened again in 730BC, but after loading it back it worked normally.

I have always assumed those crashes when you hit a Function Key are something memory related. (F4 seems to do it for me.) It only seems to happen when you have been playing awhile.

I have started hitting CTRL-S before I touch a Function Key if I have been playing awhile or it is late in the game. Since, I use MapStat, I don't use them as much after the AA.

Hi. Dumb noob question here, but I've never played a COTM/COTM (although I followed along with COTM 9). What is the etiquette on reading spoilers? Is it kosher to check spoilers (assuming you meet the "don't read any more unless you've . . ." requirements listed by the thread's creator)? Or is it more honorable to remain ignorant until your game is finished? I couldn't find a rule on this, so . . . what is the opinion of the experienced players?

How about modifying goody huts that actually pop a city, as what happened to me in CotM6 (it was my 2nd city, clear on the other side of the continent)?

You can only read the threads that you have qualified for, but you don't need to wait until the end of the game.

It's been too long and I have forgotten. At about what day of the month are:

spoiler1 for COTM opened?
spoiler2 for COTM opened?

thanks

PF

Around the fifth and tenth of the month respectively, but you also need to take into account the phases of the moon, the time zone differences between New Zealand and everywhere else, and ainwood's personal diary ;)

I'm back from skiing and ready to start (well, after I catch up at work). With only 60% ocean it seems conquest/domination will take a little longer, but I'd really like to try a conquest.
