COTM103 Hittites - Pre-game discussion

attachment.php

Hello everyone and welcome to COTM103. This month features Mursilis of the Hittites, sworn enemy of Egypt. Your tribe is benefits from expansionist and commercial traits, and has gained the knowledge of alphabet and pottery.

The Hittite unique unit is the three man chariot which replaces the standard chariot. In real life this chariot was heavier and more stable than the Egyptian chariot and provided a better platform for fighting. Of the three occupants, one was the driver, another the shield bearer and finally of course there was the javelin thrower. In the game, the Hittite war chariot is more powerful in both attack and defence than the standard chariot, and requires horses to build. The cost for building is also higher.

This game continues to employ the almost out-of-the box Conquests scenario, though there are one or two minor tweaks for simple game play balance purposes.

This game has been modified from the standard COTM scenario in order to provide the chance of popping workers from huts in lieu of settlers. Note that it is still possible to pop cities from huts. Any technical or game play issues associated with this change should be reported to the GOTM staff immediately.

Here is your start position.

Hmm, unless there is something really good in the fog, this looks like a poor start location for Demigod, doesn't it?
I guess, scout on hill and worker on BG is a no-brainer. Then re-evaluate and see, whether it's worth moving.

With Pottery and Alphabet we have the perfect tech combo, so I'll definitely try the slingshot even though it's always a bit risky on Demigod and higher.

I concur. With so little information, there's really no point to a pre-game discussion.

And please someone make this thread sticky!

Two things come to my mind:
1) There seems to be something W-NW, so I might move the worker first to check that out.
2) Is that coast to the north or is it a lake? Depending on the outcome of the worker move I might move the scout north to check that water.

i had a nice start, but i would need like another month to find enough time to get this one finished :(

I think a few extra days would be a good call....thankfully I had a lot of free time yesterday or I might not have been able to finish this one out. The endgame turned into a real ballbuster

Hi Guys,

I have asked Alan to extend the deadline by 8 days.

This was quite a late request so there is a chance that he won't pick up my post in time. Hopefully it will be OK.
This will also give me the opportunity to put another spoiler up.

It seems that this game turned out to be more difficult than I intended.

I know I'm gonna turn my head into a stone target by saying this, but I cannot understand how someone is not able to finish a g/cotm game in a month.

I mean... is a month.

We all have jobs and family and everything but... it's a month.

Thanks Alan. :thnx:

@Everkane: There was a time when I could finish a GOTM in a week! Sadly, now I travel with work a lot - usually weeks at a time and I can't put Civ on my work computer. There is no way I could finish a game in the allocated time anymore. :(

Peoples circumstances vary, and games vary. In this case, the game seems to have turned into a bit of a marathon for some people, and so I decided it was appropriate to extend the deadline in this instance.
