Cottage Confusion

Hi,

I am a little confused. I am making a lot of cottages, but don't see where any money is coming in - they don't appear to be shown on the city buildings screen. Is the income shown elsewhere?

Also various tips imply you must work a cottage to get income from it. What does this mean exactly? Surely they don't mean have a worker permanently assigned?

The "money" from cottages is actually commerce. They are not shown on the city buildings screen because they are terrain improvements. You don't have to have a worker permanently assigned to collect the commerce income. And you need to work cottages for them to provide the commerce income, just like any other terrain improvement, farm, mine ie. in the 'city screen', you need to have a citizen "on that square".

Each point of population works one tile or one specialist. Worked tiles are shown by the white circles on the city screen. You can click on them to change which tiles are worked. A worked tile "harvests" its food+hammers+commerce. This is a fundamental part of the game (I didn't get it at first either.) Play with Ctrl-Y on to make it clearer.

The income is shown in the commerce part of the city screen on the upper left.
