Could this be added to AND?

One other point. It will be necessary to "disconnect" the feature that opens the diplomacy screen when you meet another civ's scout or when you discover their territory while exploring.

i have a related issue: i was playing a testing game on snail. was still in the ancient and had just contact to 4 other civs as i met the sumerians. the diplo screen showed up and he had some contacts to trade which i of course bought. i opened the diplo screen to the newly acquired civs and traded further contacts (i tried to give them only contacts that i supposed they were next to anyway to keep their contacts low). after that i had 28 contacts in my list (i started the game with 30 civs btw). looked in world builder later. the map was such composed that it was indeed possible to make contact between the continents without ships (due to borders in the sea).

... and now i started the tech trade: got all techs from over the world. i get the impression that tech trading with ruthless AI is much easier. the situation is that i have de-facto the internet in the ancient (i.e. i will get any tech that some civs have directly form trade... just need to focus on tech the AI is not expected to research soon) and can talk to any leader in the world anytime i want. of course i am the most advanced civ now (+42 points in one turn in ancient age is not bad) and when i build all the new buildings available i am done with the game... btw the difficulty is increasing and is one step before deity.

diplomacy becomes quite trivial: someone declares war on me so i just give a tech to some of his and my neighbor in exchange for the a war dec (prevents them to be persuaded to join war against me) so i don't have to care much about military.

as you can see this early contact to everyone is extremely game breaking. so until this feature is not implemented i just wanted to ask how i can deactivate contact trading?

I would also like to know how to disable contact trading.

I really, really like the new sarcastic image of our Wizard :)

Seriously!

This may be radical but have you considered simply not trading maps or contacts with the NPCs? I am sure that would cut down on these alleged exploits on your part at least.

following this philosophy: if the AI is not strong enough to challenge me i should just play less good.

I can understand your sarcasm, but for example I prohibited myself from using trade caravans, because I find them as a cheat which allows you to neglect your economy. It is my point of view. I tried to convince others to expel this unit from the game. I failed, however I don't use them.

Besides, reading posts like yours I'm becoming more and more happy about my average CIV skills. I'm still having fun, even on Monarch

maybe i should explain my position a bit more: i play usually on very high difficulty which makes the beginning of a game a struggle for survival where every wrong choice can mean your defeat. so i try to play the best i can and use every possible advantage for my cause. to say i won't trade with contacts would mean that i let the AI cheat even more since the high difficult setting means higher handicaps for me and no one else. and this will only result in making the beginning even harder while the rest of the game remains a moderate challenge for me.

that is why i seek a possibility to deactivate this feature as long as it is highly exploitive.

After some second thoughts; I will add your requests. I will add a new Diplomacy Tab to the BUG settings where you can configure it a lot.

The sarcasm comes from the amount of unreasonable requests I receive. But, if you don't get offended, and nag often enough, great things will come of it. ;)

try to play 28 civs huge earth map as an american civ (deity/eternal) and see how these bastards in the old world evolve quite quickly... while you ain't got no real trade going on.. I finally settled greenland, made a treasure culture bomb, got to iceland, colonized it and then got contact to england, trading all other contacts.

Egypt has a 10 tech advantage as far as I can see and 1000 gnp as I have more cities + population but only 400 gnp--- I simply lack all the trade routes...

So you can get interesting games going on. I found myself playing every civ on 28 civ earth map in a row, trying to win all of them eternal/deity. That can take quite a while but as it seems Civ 5 will be steam-only, I surely should do it.

Alright, I have a working prototype...

Critics... get ready...

So what is missing?

What will happen if you turn always war on in custom game and then select Can Request Peace?

The game option over-rides the settings page. I should make those options disappear with that gameoption though...
