I'd like to add one more aspect to CiV:
using 2 or 3 different resources (lux and bonus), together, to be able to create some special buildings or create events

examples:

1 dyes + 2 cotton => build textile mill (+2:c5culture: +2:c5gold: +1 :c5food:)
1 salt + 1 deer + 2 cattles => conserve meat (+10% base:c5food:) (obs with refrigeration)
2 stones + 1 marble => build ancient statue (+6 :c5culture:)
1 spices + 1 sugar + 1 wine => grocery (+1:c5food: +3 :c5gold: +2:))
1 gold +1 pearls + 1 gems => jewelery (+3 :c5gold: +1:) +2:c5culture:)
1 crabs + 2 fishes => fishmonger (specialists don't consume food) (yea, fish is good for the brain memory ;))
1 furs + 2 silks => luxury clothes (+2 :) +4:c5gold:)
1 citrus + 2 bananas => enrgy drinks (+5% :c5production:)
1 ivory + 1 porcelain => antiquarian (+3 :c5culture: +2:c5gold:) (from renaissance)
1 whales + 1 jewelry => lipsticks seller (...) +3:) +3:c5gold: -3:c5culture: (greenpeace hate people making lipsticks with whale's fat) (from modern era)
2 sheep + 3 cattles => big livestock factory (+6:c5food:)
1 oil => gas station => +2 :c5 gold: +4 :c5production:) (modern era)
1 copper + 2 irons => steel factory (create steel, new strategic ressource to build skyscrapers (+10 :c5food:) (atomic era)
1 wheat + 3 horses => carousel (i mean horse-riding for rich people) +5:) (from information era)
2 coals + 1 aluminium => create cans (+2:c5food: +1 :c5production: -2 :c5culture: in every city)
 
each "mix" would allow to build one building and consume the resources
if they're no more available, building stops producing anything, maintenance costs stays, culture loss also

what do you think about that idea, and would it be possible to implement in a mod?

bonus resources would finally be useful for something, ancient strategic resources like steel, horses and coal still could be useful in the late stages

and it would add some more aspects to the trades: rather choose citrus instead of crabs because i have a lot of bananas and so I can build "energy drinks shop" + trading bonus resources (possible to implement?)
