Getting this error when I try to install Civ4:

CRC error: the file C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilzation 4\Assets\Art0.FPK doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.

Then I get 3 buttons Abort, Retry, Ignore.

If I hit Ignore get the same error at the \Assets\Art\Movies\Intros\intro.bik

\movies\wonders\broadway.bik
\movies\wonders\hagiasophia.bik and then a few more times before I just hit abort.

Is my CD bad?

There was a problem with Art0.FPK in V1, basicly it was massive and causing issues.

End result was in V1.52 it was split down into 4 separate files residing in the same directory.

If its picking up an Art0.FPK file, then there must be remains of an old V1 install lurking.

Try deinstalling Civ IV completely useing windows add remove programs, then manually delete any remaining CIV IV directories in:

Programs
My Documents / My Games
EDIT: Also delete C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Civilization IV\ (there are cache files in there - one is crc.dat .... )

Reinstall from discs, then apply the V1.52 patch

If still the same error - I would suspect you have corrupt or damaged discs

This happened on a completely fresh install...I mean COMPLETELY :). Format and fresh windows install fresh.

I was under the impression that this error has nothing to do with an old copy of the file. I thought that the installer extracted the file, then compared what it just extracted to checksum information for the relevant archive on the install disk. This leads me to believe that there is either a problem with the archive, the checksum info on the disk, or some type of I/O problem on the PC.

Since I was able to use the same disks to install on another PC and since the CRC error occurs for different files each time I try to install, I am leaning towards the latter. The PC that failed is on Win 2K SP4, and the success is on SP2 or SP3...I can't remember. Anyone have a similar experience?
