I am going to be creating an ancient China/Japan scenario that would spread from the begining with the Ainu to about the fall of the Samurai class.

The scenario would include China, Japan, Korea, Huns and a couple other groups I haven't decided on yet. This scenario would include the major events that occured durring this time period, such as the introduction of horses to Japan, China comming in contact with Japan, and others.

I would need help with the development of the story, graphics, and a few other things I currently don't forsee.

Tell me what you think, suggestions, and if you really like the idea help on the building of this scenario.

A list of Feature to be implimented (Not Final, I am adding them as they are suggested:

*Techs - Nonuse
*Religions - Confusionism, Toaism, Shintoism, Buddhism
*Civs - Japanese(Possibly add different Shoguns), Chinese, Mongols, Koreans, Huns?
*Units - Ninja(would be invisible to enemy), Samurai, Warrior Monk
*Timeline - 1000B.C.-1900A.D.

And Like I said give me suggestions and I may very well try to implement them

Choson and Mongols?
Include Techs that simulate contact with Europe and the US. Good choice for religions. The Mongols or possibly a Manchurian civ would be a good civ to include in order to provide pressure on China and Korea. The new Barbarians may simulate this well-enough, but a new diplomatic force would be nice.

I don't think you want to expand the map as far south as the Yangtze but definatively include each Japnese Island. I'm not too interested or knowledgeable about this arena of history but would love to provide suggestions and learn form others' suggestions.

Is this scenario centered on Japan or China or do you intend on focusing on regional East Asia?

Other factions you can include are Parhae (a powerful Koguryo-Malgal Korean kingdom that once occupied what is now Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces), the Ryukyu Islands (an independent Okinawa prior to Japanese control), and the Mongols.

Well it would be more focused on Japan but it would also include alot of asia in general.

I really like this idea. I'm a huge fan of Chinese AND Japanese history. Consequently, "Sword of the Shogun" was one of the most played Conquests in Civ3 for me. :D

Perhaps you could re-make that scenario? I would be eternally grateful!

Good Ideas everybody keep them comming. Pluss I still need some help with some of the aspects of this project even though it is still in the brainstorming stage of things.

As for samurai units, the earlier ones should be Horse Archers. The original code of the Samurai was "Kyuuba no Michi" (弓馬の道), the "Way of the Horse and Bow." The bow (Kyuu: 弓 ) was a very important weapon to early samurai. The image of the Samurai with the sword came much later. "Bushido" (武士道) was codified in the Tokugawa Period (1600-1868 CE). The unit progression of Samurai units could start with a Heian Period (794-1185 CE) horse archer and then make its way up to the more recognizeable samurai with the tachi and wakizashi. :)

Yes, that is one of the things I had intended to implement with the samurai. but I believe your dates are off. The samurai started using horses in the fith century not at the end of the 700's. I am however intrested why you decided to use ce instead of ad? I would rather not confuse people. I do like the suggestions you made, I don't want to shoot you down, as they are very important at this stage and I would like to have them keep on comming.

You're not including Buddhism in the religion list? For that matter, you could use Mahayana Buddhism and Hinayana Buddhism to make sure there are a large enough number of religions.

There fixed. I am sorry when I edited the post I forgot to put it in.

The first step would be nailing down a real start and end date for the mod. At LEAST the start date. This would get everyone on their way to deciding what units, etc, would be available.

I have put the dates up. Look at the timeline in the first post.

Yes, I'm aware of that horse archery had been implemented in the Asuka and Nara periods as well. I specifically said Heian Period because that was a time of real consolidation of Yamato Clan power when the Imperial government was seated in the capital at Heian after it had moved from Heijou. The Heian Period is a highly important period in the development of Japanese culture as well. The end of the Heian Period is also when military elites began to hold more power in Imperial court politics (especially with the confrontation between the Taira and Minamoto over hegemony at the close of this period), so I felt that the rise of the samurai power and prestige is better demonstrated in this period.

By the way, I use "CE" because I hate using "AD."

Ohh. So, who's going to make the map? How big will it be? I'll offer any assistance I can give if you're serious about doing this.

I sopose I would make the map. I think I want to make the Ninja Unit also. If you want you can start working on samurai, religions, or the story. I am not sure what you are capible of but if you would, just do what you are able.

How much of East Asia are you including? If you're including the Huns, then I assume that you're also including territory as far west as present-day Xinjiang. How far south are you including as well - towards the edge of Yunnan Province or right into northern Vietnam?
