Cross-Platform Civ3 Editor

Cross-Platform Editor for Conquests now available! 1.51

I've gone through some of the older versions of the editor and all of them seem to be missing the .ini file when I extract them. Is it supposed to be created when I first run the editor? If so, that seems not to be working on my system.

The extracted version does not include the .ini, but once you run the editor once, it should be created. One case where it won't is if the folder where the editor lives is write-protected (including C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) on modern Windows versions).

It may also be that you have a version of Java without JavaFX. Try the "Windows XP build", which bundles a compatible version of Java, and see if it runs. Although designed for XP (where newer versions of Java introduce XP compatibility bugs), it also ensures that JavaFX is present. You could also try one of the Legacy builds from this page, such as 1.24 Legacy, which omit JavaFX altogether.

If either of those work, it likely means that your Java version doesn't support Java FX. Re-installing Java from the Liberica site (while being sure to select Full JRE for the package) should resolve the issue for the main version of the editor in that case.

If those don't work either, can you run a Command Prompt and post what it says when you run `java --version` (without quotes)?

The Windows XP build worked, but it seems to be misreading some of the text on a scenario I've been building for a long time. "Marsh" gets read as "March", "Supreme Leader" has a square instead of an S, etc.

Hiya

I have an issue with the Conquests Editor, I have looked up in this forum but I couldn't find any solution so far.
When opening a bic or biq file in the editor I am unable to switch to other tabs like BLDG, CIV, CTZN etc. (as per screenshot)

Any idea what I can do?

I could solve this already on my own:

This Conquests Editor is awesome!
:goodjob: 😎

Quintillus,

I'm just getting to know your editor, although I discovered him a few years ago, but I didn't have much time to delve into his depths.
I find the possibilities of Firaxis unlocking limits in many areas exciting, now I'm reading back through forum posts from years ago.
My plan is to take my own game modes, previously created in the firaxis editor, out of the Firaxis constraints, which the Cross Platform Editor offers me, to my great delight.
I find the flavor option very exciting, which I read in your previous posts, that you can use significantly more than 7 flavors,
making civilizations very unique. I'm also interested in negative maintenance, what buildings are worth using it for! Also, deep ports, terrain editing, if I remember correctly, "LM terrain" can be used on more terrains than in Firaxis Conquests editor:)!
I installed your new editor today, version 1.51. I'm not experienced with new programs,
the old ones also lack settings for rarely used functions:confused:, but I have ideas for the gameplay that I would like to implement.

I also have some questions about your editor:
Does it include a short description of how to use the editor, which could make it easier to learn?
Is it possible to modify my previous work and save the changes in a usable format with your editor?

thank you for your answer:

I'm now trying to open the editor on a Mac (OS Monterey 12.5.1), and am running into the same issue both with 1.51 and legacy 1.26 for Mac. I am prompted to direct to the installation folder, but don't get the chance to and it doesn't produce a .ini file. Any suggestions?

The setup doesn't complete for me. I get the "please choose where you have Civilization III installed" prompt, but when I click okay, the app crashes. I have Java 8 and Liberica's JDK installed. Does anyone know how to fix this bug?

Hi,

I use Windows XP, and there was quite limited that there was something Java 8 that I didn't let me put. (jre-8u211-windows-i586.exe, jre-8u251-windows-i586.exe)
This, however, is allowed to install this. With this, the editor works well, everything loaded at first sight (Jre-8u131-windows-i586.exe)
I chose the full installer from Liberica JDK.

As I read earlier comments from Forum I received an answer to my questions
However, I think about one thing, while editing Firaxis, I came across an interesting mistake. The description of the LM Terrain was not supported by the civilopedia, nor has it appeared in the description of the Landmark Terrain describtion, although it allows me to change its code.
This error is remedied by Cross Platform Editor?
(I marked in red color. if I change this code, will it be read in civilopedia?)

If you have a link to the full installer that would be much appreciated.

I found the link beforehand, but thank you nevertheless. 😅

Yesterday I had a little time to study the editor and I really like the Landmark Terrain setting for the entire field.
I find it interesting that what the Cross platform Editor expanded, for example, for example, for the above Landmark Terrain setting, can be see in the firaxis editor, but cannot be used because it does not interpret it.
Spoiler Landmark terrain :

This is also true for flavors, so the surplus taste added to it also appears.
Spoiler New Flawor test :

Take a look at me, but I do not fully understand the exact effects of the flavors, I think of something and may work differently.
In the Firaxis editor, I was able to create a peculiar image of different players with hidden libraries and background settings
In order for only the faction to access individual resources and buildings only.
Can I solve this with the taste settings? Can I set the hidden development elements without having to work with it in free tech?
Spoiler Free tech :

How much flavor is the maximum that does not cause an error in the gameplay, is there an experience? I read about 33 here on the forum that it was running without problems, for example, 64 flavors can fit?

I need some help, :mischief:
How can I import data from the maps in your @Quintillus
editor to a new map?
This practical feature can be found in the firaxis editor, very practical, but I can't find it here.
import_bic_data.png

Can I import new, changed extended units from a firaxis editor, when using the same map in this editor?
I found the opportunity in this editor that I was able to export the map data to a TXT file. Does this work back? So can I import data from the TXT file to a BIQ file by earlier exported another BIQ data?

Is it possible to apply barbarian cities by the Cross platform Editor?
