CS-1 - Farmer's Paradise

That certainly looked like a fun set of turns Chriseay! We are really cruising!

Beestar, don't forget to rush Versailles in Damascus!

Roster:
chriseay - just played
Beestar - UP!
Morred - Still around?
Woebearer -
Sina -
Snaproll -

I think my skip notice has been lost, so I better repost it. :)

I'll be unable to play from 23rd through 29th. Holidays!

Ok Beestar, today or tomorrow is no problem. Here's a roster updated with Sina's skip, so we don't forget. ;)

Roster:
chriseay - just played
Beestar - UP!
Morred - Still around?
Woebearer -
Sina - Holidays march 23 through 29 :goodjob:
Snaproll -

Captured cottages: do we have to raze them into farms, or are we allowed to keep them? I would think the former is more in tune with our farmer ethic ...

PRETURN 1725AD
Saladin has four more cities left, three small ice outposts in the north and Mecca to the south. Should be no problem.

There are some Arabic caravels taking away our ocean tiles (fortunately they can't pillage). We're going to defeat Saladin before we can build any ships, but nevertheless we need a stronger naval capability, so I give Mao Chemistry for Astronomy. An unexpected bonus: we get ocean trade routes and we jump to +25 gpt.

A few Arabic cities just came out of revolt, but their new cultural boundaries are too small to support their population. You know what that means:  :whipped:

TURN1 1730AD
Move some forces around, revealing that Saladin's defenses are very weak everywhere except Mecca. I turn down Saladin's generous offer of 100 gold for peace. I think I read something about "consolidation and healing" in an earlier post ... I'm going to interpret "consolidation" to mean "kill all Arabic units now".

Some bad news: Huayna Capac completes Versailles (n.b. to make us feel better, rushing with our Great Engineer would have only gotten us 600 of the 800 hammers needed). Speaking of Wonders, we control Spiral Minaret but I think it's doing nothing for us because of our lack of religion, but whatever.

TURN2 1735
Time Passes ...

TURN3 1740
Razed Fustat, captured Anjar to the northeast. We have tons of military so I started to shift our cities to science / development

TURN4 1745
Aden is destroyed

The trade mission to Beijing nets us 1900 gold, raised to 70% research

TURN5 1750
Damascus' ungrateful citizens fail to appreciate the benefits of Russian society and revolt!

Mecca is conquered by our army, and the Arabic Empire is no more. We now control two more holy cities, both already with the appropriate shrine: Christianity in Medina, and Buddhism in Mecca. This should help our commerce-poor farmers, especially if we start spamming missionaries ...

TURN6 1755
War weariness is over so we can turn off culture and run 90% science to get biology in 4 turns. To my surprise, the end of the war doesn't end the revolt in Damascus and that city is useless to us for another several turns.

A new Great Engineer is born in Novgorod! That's four GP we are stockpiling. By the way, note that we need 3 GP for a Golden Age, not 2.

TURN8 1760
Buy a map from Mao showing the remaining world for 50 gold.
Rostov is starting to pump out a Frigate and Galleon navy to intimidate the AI and patrol our borders. With Heroic Epic we can generate one ship per turn. All other military construction is halted.

TURN8 1765
Mao asks us to help him war with the evil Incan. No.

The Russian Empire now contains 20 million souls!

Golden Age ends, and I spend three GP on immediately restarting the next one. I move one of the Great Engineers out of Novgorod to try to make sure he's not consumed ... and in fact he's not consumed.

TURN9 1770
Three Galleons are circling our continent: Caesar, Huayna Capac, and Hatty are all nosing around our borders with their settlers. Any city they settle will probably be easily swallowed up by our culture.

Turn10 - 1775
HC offers cow for sheep, accepted as we probably need health with our massive cities.

and ...

:food::food::food: BIOLOGY! :food::food::food:

farmer-pic2.jpg

Short term stuff
I think we have enough universities for Oxford. We should soon have enough banks for Wall Street.

Wall Street: St. Pete's or Medina or Mecca?
Heroic Epic: already at Rostov
National Epic: already at Moscow
Oxford: Moscow?
Ironworks: ?
Globe Theatre: No-one really needs it ... maybe one of our high-pop cities can become Whipville

... and here's the save: View attachment 120454

Some weird stuff happened during this turn. In one, a farm that wasn't in our cultural borders failed to spread irrigation - is this supposed to happen?

farmer-pic5.jpg

Second, I learned that Huayna is trading deer to us. 1 deer, out of the zero deer he controls:

Ok! We're really rolling. How does everyone want to go about winning this game? Culture is out, and I don't know about diplomacy. I'm sure we could do domination or conquest if we want to put the time in. I'm not so sure about space....I don't remember what the tech race looks like. I focused too much on:hammer: my last turn!

I'm inclined to say we can leave them, though I would rather farm them over. It is more in the spirit of the game certainly. Unless anyone has huge objections let's farm over them.

Morred you're up if you are still around, otherwise let's go to Woebearer. Morred we'll give you all day today (it's 9 am on Tuesday for me) and then Woe go ahead and take it if Morred hasn't posted a got it by the time you can play after that.

I'm all for farming over. Farms everywhere! :crazyeye:

I think we were doing ok with techs, so the Space Race is an option. I'll have a look at the save later to check that and the diplo situation out.

Since we haven't heard from Morred, I'm going to assume his is MIA. I'll DL the save and play the turn tonight or early tomorrow.

I'd prefer a Diplo or Space victory if possible (keep in mind it takes the AI FOREVER to actually finish a SS), as I'm not a fan of long protracted wars in the late game. Even without the cottages, we should be pretty good in tech.

I'm definitely up for a diplomatic or space win over a war win. I still haven't looked at the save, but I don't see how we could be too bad in the diplomatic sphere, and once our Arabian lands are up to speed we should have tons and tons of population with all of our farms. We may not need too many AI votes to get the win. My preference is thus diplomatic with a backup of space.

Had a look at the save now. Space is the way to go. We might have to take out/cripple Capac though late game. He's the only one that could theaten our space victory.

Ok, that's what I was thinking would be the case. I just realized that we are further in this game than I thought. It's already the 18th century! Let's work on getting space going now! :king:

We are in the home strech here, we are leaders in tech and have the world stablized enough to coast to victory. We still could go for a Diplo victory I think, but space is a lot simplier. I realized I only took 8 turns as I type this... the change in years per turn screwed up my counting. The next guy, take turns that get us to an even number!

Spread Confusism around our nation to increase income in St. Pete. I don't think any Christian or Buddist Monestaries survived, so those aren't getting spread.

Once the Forbidin Palace is up our cash flow should be good enought to go to 80% or even 90% science. Moscow is a science monster with Oxford and all of those specialists there.

Oh, the Chinese build a city on our continent in a pretty crappy location. If they want it they can have it.

Looking good, looking good. Let's see just how fast we can get a space victory. I think it'll be an interesting accomplishment to get space with no cottages! ;)

I guess with Sina on holidays (lucky lucky) that puts Snaproll up and me on deck.

Could we switch religions to Christianity and switch to Organized Religion in order to generate Christian missionaries? That is, if we want commerce badly enough to afford several turns of anarchy ...

We certainly could do that. I don't know that it would be worth it though. Do we have the Christian shrine? If so, possibly that could be good.
