Turn 45 (2200 BC)

Turn 46 (2160 BC)

Fairly quiet as you'd expect, but it looks like Tokugowa is already trying to pressure our borders. I have given Alex Open Borders. I've found it's best not to piss him off if you want to survive any length of time...he looked pretty clean anyway. :)

Started Mathematics...shame stone is out of reach otherwise we could get The Hanging Gardens built pretty quick.

It looks like the reminder mod I've got didn't work properly and I've played too many turns...sorry about that...it's always worked in the past.

Shame we have no copper in easy reach either.

Hamtastics dotmap looks pretty good to me although we may wat to stop Tokugowa from encroaching on our space more by settling up top...there are plenty of healthy resources up there...we shouldn't give them away to Toku!

I make myself a big cup of healthy herbal tea and should be well prepared to play my turns. :)

(0)2160BC
We are in Anarchy, so I hit enter.

(1)2120BC
I'm going back to check the thread about what happened to our worker and it looks like we never built one! That just costed us a grassland hill at Rome as a forrest grew there.

(2)2080BC
Rome: Warrior -> Warrior

(3)2040BC
Rome: Warrior -> Worker

IBT 1960BC - 1920BC
Kublai wants OB. I accept.

(6)1920BC
We are down to 90% science.

(7)1880BC
Alex built Sparta towards Kublai. That gives us some breathing space down there.

(9)1800BC
Rome: Worker -> Settler
I send the worker to a plains hill. We should mine them right away to avoid more forrests. Remember, we can't chop them!

I stop here to even out the turns.

Pre-turn check: Tough call here, do I aim to settle the north and get that nice city site or settle south to continue the Greek blockade. I think the south in more important. Toku is way too close, we'll war him eventually for sure. Alex too probably, but ultimately feel more confident we'll end up with Toku's cities before Alex's. Also, decide to take 3 or 4 showers and wrap myself in seaweed before playing.

Goals for this turnset - I'm pretty well hamstrung by our beeline, so I'll just try and keep it clean.

1800 BC - 1660 BC - Scout scouts, workers move to farm wheat, I take vitamins. :yumyum:

1640 BC - Scout moves into this unfortunate position.
badmove.JPG

1600 BC - Scout dies.

1560 BC - Warrior fortified in south kills Barb war.

1520 BC - :coffee: Note that's Ginseng, not coffee. :D

1480 BC - Wheat farmed, worker moves to Pasture horses.

1440 BC - Settler finished in Rome, decide to start him towards city site in south, start warrior. Then notice a barb city in the south has developed right below where we intended to start ours.

Decide instead since I only have one turn left and 65 of 460 is more round a number than 66 of 460 to stop here and allow for some team discussion.

Quite possibly least eventful turns I've ever played.

I'm thinking the city in the north is the better play now, we have OB with Greece anyway, so blockade is less effective, and we surely don't have anything to take that barb city with, and it'll need to be razed if we'd like to assure safety of the new city. Once math is in, I'd head for Wheel so we can hook up the horses and such and get something military with more than 2 strength. May want to build HG in Antium also, it will take longer, but it will allow Rome to work on building some units, which are sorely needed. Given the size of this continent, I see no way we're not going to war with Toku soon, and prolly Alex eventually. Kublai is probably far enough away to be appeased particularly if we can get him on board against Alex. Definitely need another couple workers as well. I wanted to switch the Antium build but figured we needed the Lib ASAP for cultural expansion since we don't have Obelisks.

Anyway, have fun with it. Rem is up.

Got it. Will play tomorrow.

Here we go:

Turn 1- Send the settler up north, seeing as how we have a barb city down south that could wreak havoc on the new city.

Turn 2- I send our warrior in the south to check out the barb city, it has 2 warriors defending.

Turn 3- Math is in -> The Wheel

Turn 4- Rome builds Warrior -> Worker

Turn 5- Cumae founded -> Library

Turns 6,7- Nothing

Turn 8- Antium builds Library -> Barracks

Turn 9- Wheel is in -> Pottery

Turn 10- Rome builds worker -> Library

Summary: Not much happening, but we should try to swarm that barb city, even if it is with only warriors, because we should be able to take it down and continue southern expansion.

I got it, won't be playing until tomorrow so feel free to chime in.

I have a question about the variant rules.
Can we still build Libraries now that we have Aqueducts and soon Granaries available? I thought not and got a bit confused by the last report.
I also thought we have to build the Hanging Gardens.

Just checking if I am imagining more stuff than usual. :mischief:

I would interpret it to be ok to finish libs already started, but the libs started after Math came in should be aqueducts, same for rax. HG can't be built til we have ducts up, so no matter yet there.

Whoops, my bad. Wasn't really paying attention to the tech tree

Hey guys, sorry I didn't get to it yesterday--I wasn't feeling well enough :crazyeye:, but I should get to it today.

This is an interesting variant. I'm curious to see whether the lack of forges until what is essentially end-game hurts a lot or not. That and not being allowed to cottage flood-plains were the most painful parts. Maybe you'll get Howard Hughes as a great Engineer sometime...

Turn 0 -- 1080 BC

First I fix the variant violations...whoops, never mind. Can't build ducts without Masonry, so we're so far so good.

I do move the Warriors south from the cows onto the jungle next to the city to fortify there. Better defense.

Turn 1 -- 1040 BC

One worker starts a road to bring the horses into the Rome, the other is sent to get the Ivory online so that Rome can be happy again.

Turn 2 -- 1000 BC

Toku adopts Slavery so he must have Bronze Working too.

Turn 3 -- 975 BC

Warrior fights off Barbarian Warrior. Receives City Raider I promotion.

Turn 4 -- 950 BC

Pottery is in, start Masonry (due in 4)

Turn 5 -- 925 BC

Rome grows to 7, has two unhappy people, which coincidentally enough is how much it costs to whip the Library. I apply a healthy amount of :whipped:

Turn 6 -- 900 BC

Rome: Library > Worker

Turn 8 -- 850 BC

Masonry is in, start Archery to deal with the Barb "Menace"

Turn 9 -- 825 BC

Stonehenge is BIFAL.

No surprises here: Japan builds a new city by the horses to our North.

Antium whips Barracks.

Turn 10 -- 800 BC

Antium: Rax > Warrior (start in on Archers asap as well)

Ok, Archery due next turn, probably want to do a military build just in case (can't trust Tokugawa and it'll help with the barbs). Remember: We can now build Granaries and Aqueducts so we can't build anything else before them except Units. Antium's the only city with Rax, so we're gonna want to build troops there. Cumae will need to whip the Library at some point so it can start working those cows and have a good tile.

Also start thinking about getting Hanging Gardens built (Rome, most likely), we need that Wonder.

 800: I look around some and things look good.

775: Archery comes in, I start on Iron working, so we can hopefully find some of that to replace our lack of bronze.

Rome finishes a worker and starts an aqueduct. I'm starting the aqueduct so we can get closer to the HG. Note that there is a forest near Rome that can be chopped (it's over some spices), so feel free to chop it up after the switch to HG. That plus some :whipped: should get it done pretty quickly.

I MM some stuff to get Iron working down to 8 turns

750: Antium finishes a worker and starts an archer. I send the warrior towards barb city

725: Nothing :(

700: Nada

675: Oracle built elsewhere :(

650: Confucianism founded

625: Not much

600: A barb warrior pokes head out near Rome :(

575: Iron working is done, we start currency so we can get more moneys.

Iron working reveals Iron in Toku's territory and also shows that there is Iron relatively close to the Barb city.

550: Antium finishes an archer and begins an archer.

So I have no screenshots since I'm on a pc with crappy graphics and it would look really crappy if I posted them. Plus, it's annoying to post images now that you have to put them on imageshack.

My thoughts: we need to get Iron, badly. Not sure what the best way to do this is, though. We may want to get it from near the barb city, but it's not within the three square radius, so it could be best to burn the barb city to the ground and found our own. On the other hand, we're itching for an excuse to attack Toku anyway (I think). Of course, we also have no military.

I didn't do it, but might want to MM Rome and other cities for more production again. Rome is growing extremely quickly at the moment and I'm not sure we really need to get more unhappy people (it's next to happy limit). Could get the HG cranked out and then start cranking out some more military. Anyway, best of luck to whoever's next:
