CTIV-6: Germs! Germs Everywhere!

Oh, that's terrible to hear. Please wish him a speedy recovery and we'll be looking forward to play with him again!

My turnset turned out to be somewhat surprising.

(0)1675AD:
A beeline to Ecology seems a bad idea if we want to go to war. We need Steel and Rifling more. I set research to Steel. It will take 12 turns though. Even more if I switch Science off for a few turn. I'll do that anyway though and try to trade for RP.
We get 258gpt, so 3 turns without science should do for upgrades.
I pull 8 Cats, 5 Maces and 2 Grens out of Rome. That's a nice little stack for Kublai.
I scout Alex territory just to see and he doesn't have much defense in his cities. Hmmmmm...I might reconsider attack plans. But Toku is friendly with him and he's a fellow Hindu, so Kublai is a better target.

(1)1680AD:
Rome: Gren -> Gren
Neapolis: Temple -> Library
Send Renee to Cumae for the Academy.

IBT: Alex declared WAR on US!!!! That little backstabbing bastard. He'll pay for this.:mad: :mad: :mad:

(2)1685AD:
Looking where Alex has his forces. Ah, down at Samarqand. I see 2 Maces and 2 WE. WE only have mounted units there. I upgrade a HA to Knight. Now I'm really glad I switched off science and pulled some units out of Rome and sent them on their way.
I halt the attack stack I was sending down to Samarqand and split it to attack Delphi and Pharsalos. I upgrade a few Maces.
Those 2 cities will be under siege next turn.

IBT: We lose the galley with a worker and a HA that I didn't see before.

(3)1690AD:
Antium: Market -> Gren
Bombard Delphi, but there's a Musket in there now, so I need to wait a turn to get 2 more Gren down.
I got a Gren in Samarqand now, so we'll keep that city for sure.
Bombard Pharsalos.
Toku has Rifles now.

IBT: Lose a worker. Kill 2WE at Samarqand, but lose a Knight to a Mace.

(4)1695AD:
Rome: Gren -> Gren
Upgrade 2 more Maces and put science back on. I get surprisingly bad odds on the attack Gren vs LB. I need to suicide a cat then. I rather lose one of those than a Gren. Change Rome from Gren to Cat and send a suicide cat in to Pharsalos. It did what its name says and I take Pharsalos without further losses. Repeat procedure at Delphi.
Upgrade 2 more HA with the cash.

IBT: Kill the 2 Maces that attacked Samarqand, but have bad luck at Pharsalos. Alex kills 2 Grens with Muskets, we kill one WE.
Roosevelt wants us to cancel deals with Toku. Nope!

(5)1700AD:
Rome: Cat -> Gren
Kill Musket that stole the worker a few turns ago with a Knight.
Kill another Musket outside Pharsalos. Only one Gren in the city now, but cats there and reinforcements on the way.
Set 10% culture.

IBT: Kill a Musket and a Mace.

(6)1705AD:
The situation at Pharsalos is under control. Need to wait for reinforcements though.

IBT: Kill a WE.

(7)1710AD:

Shangian: University -> Market
Alex has an empty Gally near Delphi, we might lose some nets. We don't have any navy.
Kill Crossbow at Pharsalos and reinforcements arrive. Will march on Athens next turn.

(8)1715AD:
No more attacks from Alex. I think we got him now.
Rome: Gren -> Gren
Pharsalos: Granary
Delphi: Granary
Move towards Athens and Alex has Rifles now. Sigh! We'll need a bunch of suicide cats then.

(9)1720AD:
Cumae: Bank -> Observatory

IBT: Alex sends a cat on our stack next to Athens and it withdraws as well.

(10)1725AD:
Antium: Gren -> Cat
Bombarding Athens down to 6% and set injured units to heal. Medic will only join the stack next turn though. Medic Knight + Gren + Cat that is. Athens can be taken next turn or the one after. Might want to heal one turn and have the 3 units I mentioned available. There are enough cats to suicide some. It should be possible to take out Alex relatively fast and then onwards to Kublai.

Steel in 5 turns. Some cities are unhappy and starving. That can't be helped. We are fighting a "brother in faith". Only help is to wipe him out.

I'm sad that my turns were over so fast this time. I wanted to take Athens as well. Alex's backstabbing makes me want to do mean things to him, and I did.

I'll need a skip from 23rd thru 29th. Holidays! :cool:

Roster
ChrTh > On deck

JesusOnEez > Recovering (wouldn't playing a health-focused SG do him good?)
Sina > Just finished (Skip until 29th)

Rem > Dropped ?

I'm not surprised Alex backstabbed. He's good for at least one backstab every game.

Gaspar, can you finish him off?

With JesusOnEez out for awhile, Rem MIA and 3 of us going on holiday next week, I think we need to add some fresh blood. I'll post in the SG reg thread.

Sign me up, if you'll have me. New to Prince, so could use all the practice. Plus, the no unhealth bldgs seems like an interesting variant....@ the earliest, i can play turns in 12 hours from now, but would prefer to be after that.

Let me know, and I'll spend my day @ work today catching up on the game....

pholkhero, you've been added. Make sure you pay attention to the promotion rules, as that seems to have caused the most issues.

I'll put you in the roster after me.

Welcome aboard, Mucco. Make sure you read through the thread and have a firm grasp on the variant rules.

See it. I'll get it tonight and play it either tonight or tomorrow. I will take great pleasure in beating the snot out of Alex. I'll show him just how "too advanced" we are. Stupid sandal-wearing punk. :lol:

If anybody's home or can post screenies (i'm @ work), that'd be awesome! I'd like to see an overview of our empire, as i'm sure mucco would too so as to better catch us up.

Just finsihed catching up on everything, and will make sure the rules are surgically implanted to my face :)

I took a brief look at the save. Here's a screenshot:
empire17256wh.jpg

I noticed some things:
first, we can attack the greek city at turn 0 IMO. We have 6 units available, there are 3 riflemen will very likely fall against our 4 grenadiers and 2 knights. The rest will be easy to wipe out.
This was a very "lucky" position draw for you! Stuck in a continent with alex, toku and mongolians, while 3 financial civs are alone on islands! Couldn't think of a worse start...
Catherine has some wine to trade, and no health resources. Since we need happiness, it may be a good move to take that wine. Possible "worst enemy" penalties? Didn't check, but happiness is needed. Forges could be useful, too, since we have gems and gold.
Civics: I don't understand why are we running caste system and mercantilism.
They are medium upkeep civics (not so good), and we aren't taking much use of them. We don't have many specialists around, while slavery could be really useful to keep our people happy (I also see lots of food bonuses, to recover), and mercantilism probably hurts our research, since it's negating foreign ($$$) trade routes with four civs with whom we have open borders (grammar? English is not my language :crazyeye:). We have 6 coastal cities, trade routes with harbors can be powerful for us.

It also seems like we could use a couple more workers to start cottage-spam those jungles around delphi, pharsolos

Please reread the variant rules a few times. There is a death penalty on building forges. (And probably a few other things) ;)

Now, we don't really want a bloody mess around. Can't be healthy.:mischief:
