CTR 1 -- Jump Without Looking -- Interest Thread

This would be a tempting SG to join; most likely fast and furious... unfortunately I can't commit to further SGs for a while, but I will be watching this and should the need for some kind of pinch hitting show up, I might be able to squeeze it into a very busy schedule...

I would certainly be very interested in joining this game. I have a few concerns however;

1. Will this be on PTW v1.14? Or will it be version 1.21. If its 1.21 I can't play as I live in Europe.
2. Being a complete newbie to SGs I have no idea how long one will last but I guess many months depending on our success. I have imminent exams which may limit my playing time and holidays after that. It shouldn't be too much of a problem as I will be able to give advance notice.
3. This is probably the big one. I meet your requirements a little too well. As already mentioned I have never played a succession game before. I have never even won at Monarch level before (but I win at regent). I hope this doesn't present a problem.

You seem to be expecting to lose and with short turns in charge I should be able to focus properly and not make too many mistakes. :D I'm looking forward to this.

Hi SHard,

thanks for your interest. To answer your concerns:

1. We haven't decided on the version yet, it could even be vanilla CivIII.

2. I'm a newbie to SGs too, so I haven't a clue as to how long this is going to take. We all have to cope with RL, so it's entirely possible (almost certainty) that a player will have to get skipped once in a while.

3. That is really up to ChrTh to decide, he'll be back monday afternoon (US time, so that's early tuesday morning to us).

And yes, I am expecting a loss, but hey we could get lucky (with a little help from our friends).

Hehe, well I hope I will be allowed to join. I think in my current solo Monarch game I am doing well so maybe I'll be a successful monarch victor before this game really gets going.

If I'm not suitable for the game I'll enjoy seeing how you get on anyway.

EDIT: I just took a diplomatic win in my solo Monarch game, my first monarch win so hopefully this will boost my chances of being allowed to play this SG

Congrats SHard :goodjob:

I hope our glorious leader will post the start postion soon.

If it were my choice I'd go for a religious/industrious CIV on a large map with barbs set to roaming.

I can play vanilla 1.29 or PTW 1.14, it makes no difference to me. The american PTW patch is out tho' methinks.

I really can't wait for this. Thanks to ChrTh for setting it up.

That's great, SHard! I'd say you're in. If so, we are only one person short of the 6 ChrTh aims for. So with this post I'll bump this thread up the list a bit and hope we one more blind-jumper in.

BTW I'm able to play vanilla 1.29 and both versions on PTW.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I could get vanilla civ if need-be, but I currently only have PTW 1.14 installed.

As for civ choice, I don't know if our leader has already picked one out, but I would vote for Industrious/Scientific/Religious. Ottomans may be a good choice because of the timing of their UU and therefore their golden age. I like the Sapihi (sp) very much, but I don't know how much use they would be on Deity.

SHard, you're more than qualified. We need a couple more players before we start though--hopefully some will sign up soon :)

Between RL, my own SG (monarchy jump) and GOTM 19 (emperor, btw guys), I really don't think I will be able to ..... aaaah uuuhnn (insert twisting own arm here) ....

That is to say ... I'm in, if you'll take somone who's still trying to get a win on Monarch. I realize I might seriously cramp your style based on lower ability, but if you'll have me ??

We'll take anyone who meets the criteria, heck we'll take people who've never played the game :)

As for version, I'd say 1.29f...let's not cut out people simply because they don't have PTW.

Updated roster shortly....

ChrTh
Space Oddity
Infoman
Mad-Bax
SHard
Wanderer
???????

If we can get one more person to sign up, we'll be ready to go. I think I'll start up the game tomorrow night. Keep watching this space!

Excellent, let's get this show on the road. I am hoping for a good starting location. Also, having read a few deity SGs I understand it is best to play with one less than the maximum AI to help with early growth.

I'd like to join. I've never participated in a SG. I've never won on Emperor, but things are looking pretty good in GOTM 19. :D I've never played a Deity game, but I think I'm ready.

I've read RBE2 as well as several of the other RBE SGs. The win they pulled out in RBE2 is nothing short of miraculous.

Earp, you're in. I'll post three starting locations tonight, and we'll vote for which one we want to go with.

Which civ are we going to use? I think we should be militaristic and either Religious or Scientific. I think we have to be militaristic in order to strengthen our military and survive any early wars. I think we need to be Religious or Scientific for the cheaper Temples or Libraries. I expect us to have happiness problems and be behind in the tech race.

If we are voting, I vote for the Aztecs, Japan, Germany, or maybe Babylon.

btw, I assume that we are playing normal Civ III v1.29. I've only been playing PTW since I bought it last month. Does anyone not have PTW? I have PTW v1.21, but I think I can re-install and get back to v1.14.

ChrTh, can we just check if there is anyone without PTW on the roster? If everyone has PTW maybe we could use that, if not there may be a slight problem. I have lent my original civ3 disc to a friend. I will be able to get it back, but maybe not in time for my first turn. Anyway, we will cross that bridge when it comes to it.
