Current (SVN) development discussion thread

Heh I have no problem, I just think it's a difficult Civ to make interesting and much of it comes from core RFC mechanics; so hard to fix.

It's been quite some time I didn't update the SVN, though days ago when I check there's no update.
I play as Portugal, then play as Korea.

PORTUGAL

1) UHV I didn't check at the given time, but perhaps couple or triple of decades earlier.
2) I think it would be nice to hint which resources are part of colonial resources.

KOREA

1) I wonder how Barbarian choose which city to attack. Previously the barbarian coming from around Mudanjiang will attack Zhengdu of China, but ever since I raze Zhengdu and Mudanjiang, the Barbarian come to attack Hanseong, instead of going to attack China proper like Xi'an, Hangzhou etc.
TL;DR: Does Barbarian choose to attack the nearest city to their location?

2) There's some misplaced name on Barbarian horse name, as I saw Uighur horse archer and Parthian horse archer attacking me -_-

3) When I open the WB, I saw that Rome is training a knight, at 325 AD. I wonder if there's bug on the tech list because I am able to research Feudalism too and shortcut everything to medieval age... or perhaps that's normal?

Slight change in minimap water transparency is all I think.

I think the tedious problem with Ethiopia is that they do not represent the Axumite, neither they represent the Medieval Ethiopia nor Haile Selassie's Ethiopia.. or even today's Ethiopia.

Instead, it creates an imaginary Ethiopia combining all elements randomly at a random way.
1) Their UB is Axumite (Stele)
2) Their LH is Medieval (Zara Yaqob)
3) Their UP is Modern (Power of Sovereignty? #iirc)
4) Their UHV lacks of historical basis, especially the one that's derived from RFC
5) Their capital is Axumite (Axum)
6) Their CNM is combination of Medieval (Maqadishu, Lalibela, etc), and Modern (Addis Adaba, etc)

Afaik the Ethiopians would not care who control the regions now called Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique etc.. especially at that certain years.

That's why I once recommend to rework the Ethiopia to be an Axumite civilization, with UHV focusing on trades etc, and respawn as the modern Ethiopia whenever possible...

I hope they will be reworked soon.
They are the Ethiopian civilization, therefore they cover all of these things. Various Indonesian dynasties and kingdoms are condensed into one civ as well, for instance. Ethiopia already got a major retool to focus more on Aksum (their first and second goal, as it is). The game would be a little too short if it were just for that, therefore they get to carry the obligatory ahistorical "prevent all colonies on your home continent" goal.

Can anyone tell me if 1.10 is "current" version, or if there has been any worthwhile changes through svn?
I don't think there's been any. Maybe a bugfix?

Slight change in minimap water transparency is all I think.
I think that's in the 1.10 release as well.

Only 1 revision has been made after v1.10.

Revision 450 = v1.10
The latest revision is 451. (which has been made about 3 months ago)

I just downloaded the SVN on my new PC, but whenever i try to load the mod, Civ crashes. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do you happen to have set your language to something other than English? Is your Beyond the Sword up to date (version 3.19)?

No, my language is set to English, and I'm using version 3.19

edit: oops, apparently it didnt install the 3.19. Trying again!

The Viking city name map is a little screwed up- I think that the names for the New York/Washington Area (New Sweden) are shifted one tile to the right, so there are presently names for sea tiles.

Congo should have a Coffee spawn 1N of starting location (was one of the biggest coffee producers until the civil war), 1N2E of start location should be an oil resource (Angola produces a massive amount of oil). Namibian crab should be fish.

Rome just needs to own cities outside of Italy iirc. So they technically don't even have to expand east, although the requirement that Greece must be dead often ensures this.

Of course there are no requirements if the player chooses to play Byzantium (so you don't fail to spawn after waiting for the autoplay). Greece has a scripted collapse in this case, however.

So if you are Rome yourself, the only way is to turtle or keep the Greek alive just long enough? Hmm, one can of course hope that they build Sparta and left Constantinople for you to build :)
