Custom resources problems : random placement, icon hidden by river

Hi,

Two questions about custom resources:

1) Do rivers are always on top over resources icons ? This means resource graphic will be always somehow covered by rivers graphic during game play ?

I was trying to modify some resource_shadows.pcx but no effect.

2) I found that appearance ratio (AR) is not working correctly in (my) editor. Using option to randomly generate resources on the map many of them are put 3-4 together very close each other so can be used only by one player.

Standard map with 8 player and AR is set to 40 I recived 5 resources one by one. How can this problem be solved ?

My CIV is C3C 1.22

Both problems can be seen bellow :

In addition to 2)

If resource is set to strategic all is ok, if to luxury its put in few larger groups.... thats strange

Just move the resource up a few pixels on the sheet :)


This is not solving the problems with layers. What in case resource icon ought to be large and cannot be moved ? I try to find "hard" solution for this.

The problem is the layers. rivers go on top of terrain & roads go on top of all. So either the resource must be shifted a few pixels (relatively easy), or all the possibly conflicting river graphics must be adjusted (much harder).

Those resources are luxuries, right? They are always distributed in this way, which facilitates trade. For even distribution on the map, the resource has to be set to strategic.

Also 5 resources with AR of 40 and 8 players seems strange, should be 2-3. The correct formula for C3C 1.22 is AR * Players / 133 (the one in the help file is outdated), but it doesn't apply to some extreme scenarios e.g. if you have too many or little resources on the list (~4% of tiles are filled with resources, so if your ratios don't take that into account they won't work as expected).
