The World (as we know it)
CV02-3000BC-Overview.jpg

Notes
Not a madly exciting set of turns but we're in a reasonable position and have some explorers out and about.

Salamanca is due to grow & build a Settler in 2 turns. With only +3fpt and our present 6spt there doesn't seem much sense in building a Granary until all 6 BG are fully improved.

I would send the Settler SE along the river, settling either S (Red) or SSE (Green) from the Sugar. Alternatively we could strike out South for the Floodplains (Blue), remembering that with no culture allowed the city would be isolated for quite some time.
CV02-3000BC-Core.jpg

There is another Civ, whose borders we can just see, to be discovered. With the Roman stack so close, it's quite possible that they're at war with each other or about to go to war :)
CV02-3000BC-Borders.jpg

There's not much point in trading until we discover some more AI, to lower the costs of the 1st level techs, so I would keep Salamanca producing Curraghs between Settlers.

The save is > here <

Nice set of opening turns. Our start looks promising, as it appears we aren't going to be too cramped and hopefully won't have much in the way of cultural pressure. I'll settle at the red dot and keep up the exploration.

Got it.

Preturn- We look good.

IT- Roman stack moves south.

T1 2950

Exploration. Looks like we may be on the same landmass as Rome.

IT- Salamanca-settler-curragh

Beech sees a Babylonian spearman come out of the fog. Great, we have no culture, and we're going to be bordered by the kings of culture

T2 2900

Babylon is up 5 visible tech on us already. No trade oppurtunities yet.

The settler begins it's trek to the red dot.

More exploration. Discover a GH NW of Salamanca.

IT- Roman stack reappears.

T3 2850

Aspen confirms that we are on the same landmass as Rome.

Nothing else of interest.

IT- Babylon starts the Pyramids.

T4 2800

Nothing.

IT- Salamanca-curragh-curragh

T5 2750

Alf spots spices to the SE.

IT- ZZZ

T6 2710

Niagra Falls founded. Set to warrior. Will need it as there's a barb camp right outside it's borders.

Alf discovers a barb camp with 4 warriors in it. I have a feeling the barbarians might be a bit of a nuisance.

IT- Alf surives 3 consecutive barb attacks, promoting to elite and losing only one hp.

T7 2670

Alf fortifies to recover from battle. Not much else.

IT- Salamaca-curragh-warrior

T8 2630

I decide to let Alf have revenge against the barb camp. He loses two hp, but brings home the 25g.

IT- Two barbs move towards Niagra Falls.

T9 2590

I raise lux for Salamanca.

IT- The two barbs sack Niagra Falls for a combined total of 84g

Salamanca-warrior-warrior

T10 2550

Not much to report. Just some more exploration.

Afterthoughts

There wasn't too much of interest in my turns. After the next warrior completes, Salamanca should pump out another settler.

Steady stuff Kaiser-Berger

Definetely looks good -- sorry I disappeared for a day or so.

We definetely want to expand southwards with our tight build. The north can be filled in later, but we may lose the south if we don't settle fast enough. Salamanca should probably produce mostly Settlers, as we're on a peninsula and so neither barbs nor other civs will be a huge challenge.

We'll want top use our AA advantages (Agri trait and strong UU) to gain a head start over the AIs before they a) Build a lot of Libraries and b) attain high levels of culture. (Particularily Babylon.) If we can get Horseback Riding ASAP and then bowl over Babylon early, it will make this game a lot easier than it otherwise might be.

Settler and Warrior are unmoved, need to decide on where to settle next.
CVN_DotMap1990BC.jpg

Here is a proposition of a dot map: Purple are filler cities, and blue is where settler is right now.

All but Greece has Writing now. Writing + 79g can get us BW+TW from him, trade not made.

@Ted: I've been sort of burned out from civ over the last year, Conquests with all the initial bugs wasn't much fun playin, so been soaked up in other games mostly. The hunger did return though, and then the SG hunger came as well ;)

Steady stuff Tarkeel

I say settle where they stand. That would open up the Floodplains :)

Ted

Can I recommend you read

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17432

as another no-culture (almost) game? Granted, we had an uber-UU to help us out. Some good discussion of city placement is in there. And you can possible foresee some of the difficulties. We did allow ourselves a few GWs and the FP. Not having those will make this a little tougher, but I think you'll be amazed at how easy this variant actually is....

Arathorn

Sorry I went missing for a day, but I'm back now and have my CD drive working. Got it.

Arathorn -- thanks for the link. I think everyone participating should read up on that game for tips on how to play this one.

I just thought I'd gotten my CD drive to work, I played some turns of the COTM today... And now it's not working again. I'm really sorry about this -- I started a game and now I can't play! It's really frustrating me... Anyway, if TedJackson can take this, do so. I'll try to jump in at some point.

Pretty boring set of turns. We're holding our own but won't really get going until we've a few more Workers improving our tiles.

Babylon now has CoL but we can't afford it :(

This Settler is on his way to the Silks & Horses but will pop the GH in the process.
