Dear Doughnuts,

First off, let us apologize for the long delay in speaking with you. We've been scrambling to take care of several potential disasters that all spung up at the same time. Don't worry – things are mostly back under control now.

We want to update you on what's going on over the sea, so that we're not keeping you in the dark. We mentioned our troubles with KISS to you in a previous chat, and we regret to inform you that things continue to deteriorate… although we're still hoping to avoid war… that hope seems increasingly like vain hope. KISS continues to back away from our peace deal, and we think that our Hoplites may be the only thing deterring a sneak attack for the time being. (as we are no longer sure how far we can trust KISS's honor)

Several turns ago – when everything started to go south with KISS, our defensive position was much weaker than it is now… and fearing for the very existence of our Empire – we scrambled to find an ally to help save us from KISS. As a team, we decided that rapid advancement to the Middle Ages was our best hope for surviving KISS – and TNT was the only team with the Tech we needed to get to the Middle Ages.

We deeply regret any false-impressions this may have given you. Let us say emphatically: We mean no harm to your people whatsoever. We explicitly told TNT that we would not be involved in any military action against you, and that our tech swap would in no-way obligate us to help them in a military manner.

It is still MIA's hope that we can become good friends and trading partners. (We don't know if those KISS snakes have been whispering in your ear – but please take what they say with a grain of salt… we know for a fact that they have been trying to spread half-truths about other teams and about MIA)

Regrettably – as part of our deal with TNT, they quite naturally required that we not trade any of their technology to any other teams. At the time, we were in no position to bargain with them – and therefore cannot honorably trade many of our new techs with you. However – we do have a few proposals we would like to put on the table to help cement our good relationship and light a path forward for both our peoples.
(This isn't necessarily a formal proposal – just some ideas, which, if you like them also – we'll write them up all nice and formal and have a signing ceremony and celebration)

1) Trans-Oceanic Peace Treaty. We propose signing a peace agreement that is basically unlimited, but either team can leave the treaty as long as they provide 5 turns notice to the other team. Leaving the treaty would not be an act of war – it would just no longer guarantee peace. We think this is a reasonable first step on the road to long-term peace for both of us.

2) You get Pianos, we get Happy Hour! We propose trading Ivory for Wines as soon as you get a harbor up and running.

3) We are interested in trading some technology with you. As we mentioned, we have to be careful – but we have some options, depending on what you're interested in. If you're researching Monarchy – or plan to research Chivalry eventually… then we may have some options to trade tech straight across. A more likely scenario may be us selling you some of our technology on very favorable terms. As a show of good faith – we'd be willing to make you a good deal on Republic or Currency – if you're interested in either. Let us know!

Anyway, we're happy to keep you up to date on the events on this side of the pond, so feel free to approach us with any questions or concerns. We promise to be more vociferous now that our crises have been averted. And if KISS is saying things that are painting a strange picture (as they have done with TNT), we hope you will ask us about it. We, of course, will do the same for you.

We look forward to many more years of peace and cooperation with our friends across the sea.

- Fe3333au, Foreign Minister Gloriouso Magnifico
Team MIA

P.S. We haven't sighted any TNT movement in your direction – but we'll let you know if we see or hear of anything!

I am still wavering on the peace clause; but, as this is no more than an ice-breaker, I suppose it does no harm. It's not as if they are going to say 'Yes' to everything without any further discussion.

I propose this modified one ...

Title - MIA Update
Dear Doughnuts,

First off, let us apologize for the long delay between communications. We've been scrambling to take care of several potential disasters that all sprung up at the same time. Don't worry – things are mostly back under control now.

We want to update you on what's going on over the sea in our neck of the world and also to demonstrate that we are not deliberately keeping you in the dark. We mentioned our troubles with KISS to you in a previous chat, and we regret to inform you that things continue to deteriorate … although we're still hoping to avoid war … that hope seems increasingly like vain hope. KISS continues to back away from our peace deal, we just received a curt note which indicated that after 470BC (T104) the mutual peace between our peoples will no longer be in effect ... simply put after this dark date, KISS are free to act with aggression without suffering a penalty.

To MIA Diplomatic Corps:

We are unhappy, and frustrated, by your recent dealings with the "Dark Side" across the water. We can no longer guarantee continued peaceful relations beyond 470BC (T104).

During this period we will view any incursion of your troops or settlers north of The Line of Demarcation set forth in the attached map as an act of war and will respond accordingly.

Bede of KISS

We think that our Hoplites may be the only thing deterring a sneak attack for the time being. (as we are no longer sure how far we can trust KISS' honour)

Several turns ago – when everything started to go south with KISS, our defensive position was much weaker than it is now … and fearing for the very existence of our Empire – we scrambled to find an ally to help save us from KISS. As a team, we decided that rapid advancement to the Middle Ages was our best hope for surviving KISS – and TNT was the only team with the knowledge we needed to get to the Middle Ages.

(We don't know if those KISS snakes have been whispering in your ear – but please take what they say with a grain of salt … we know for a fact that they have been trying to spread half-truths about other teams and suspect now about MIA)

History is the great teacher, for a possible litmus ... is it not confusing and disturbing how quickly a firm and strong powerful alignment crumbled into distrust and jealousy, especially when the perceived junior partner begun to out prosper the other)

Regrettably – as part of our deal with TNT, they quite naturally required that we not trade any of their technology to any other teams. At the time we also found out that KISS too were engaged in discussions with TNT and therefore the negotiations were reduced to a bidding war between KISS and us, with both teams fully understanding the restrictions and implications placed on the trade deal.

As you can see, we were in no position to bargain with them – and therefore cannot honourably trade many of our new techs with you. However – we do have a few proposals we would like to put on the table to help cement our good relationship and light a path forward for both our peoples.
(This isn't necessarily a formal proposal – just some ideas, which, if you like them also – we'll write them up all nice and formal and have a signing ceremony and celebration)

EDIT ... Sent to Nut g-mail and Robi_D, don't want KISS beating us to the first contact.

I dont' know if it's worth mentioning, as this has already been sent, but there's a gaff lurking:

History is the great teacher, for a possible litmus ... is it not confusing and disturbing how quickly a firm and strong powerful alignment crumbled into distrust and jealousy, especially when the perceived junior partner begun to out prosper the other)

They didn't know about KISSMIA... or, if they did, KISS must have told them.

Well good I sent cos chatted with Robi_D

RobiD77: hi fe
fe3333au: hi alelaidian
fe3333au: Adelaidian
RobiD77: hehe i understood the first time, so how are you
fe3333au: bit allergied ... but good ... had a great chinese year of dog dinner ... you?
RobiD77: pretty good, just not ready for bed yet
fe3333au: nor me ...

To Business
RobiD77: i got your pm btw
fe3333au: great ... just wanted to keep you guys in the loop ... you probaly had many questions ... we felt better answer them before you ask ;)

Straight to the Point ... and very eager
RobiD77: we are happy to trade wines with you for ivory ... we will have a harbour up and running in 8 turns
fe3333au: excellent ... as soon as it is up ... send us Wines and we will cement it with ivory
RobiD77: no probs, you have a deal there, also as your warrior can see we are starting to make progress towards the silks so we are happy to trade for them too once we have them
fe3333au: what timeframe? ... cos we are near to linking a lux as well
fe3333au: 20ish turns?
RobiD77: well hard to say exactly, depends on what happens with tnt, but somewhere around 20-30 turns would be a good apporximate
fe3333au: we will certainly be ready then as well ... and it also depends on neighbourly relations

About our respective Neighbours
RobiD77: hehe, at least yours give you a ten turn warning on possible conflict, we got 0
fe3333au: we had that as an agreement ... and I must say at least they honoured that ... but far out what a venemous letter
RobiD77: wouldn't have stopped them attacking you anyway
fe3333au: we can only hope ... and in the interim shore up defences
RobiD77: we were in peaceful trade negotiations for techs and a peace agreement which they seemed happy to discuss then out of nowhere we get a letter say there going to war

Tech trading opportunity ??
fe3333au: so regarding tech trade ... are you interested in currency?
RobiD77: we are, but again it depends on the neighbours as to what happens

Peace Talks Abroad
fe3333au: you mentioned that peace was an option ... is it still suspicious?
RobiD77: well we seemed to be making progress, but it has stalled over the past few turns as to what will happen, but our positions have closed significantly, so i would say its 50-50 at the moment. However we got bored waiting so we have prepared an attack, maybe that will sharpen their minds a bit more
fe3333au: yeah like force the issue LOL
RobiD77: well got to do sometihng with all those MW's we have sitting around:-)
fe3333au: you could always send them KISS way ;-)
RobiD77: we believe actions speak louder than words ;-)
fe3333au: he he
RobiD77: to tnt anyway, nothing else has gotten through to them
fe3333au: some people speak a totally different language
RobiD77: it took wiping out their attacking force before they would even offer a half decent peace deal
fe3333au: you must be sacrificing the right stuff to the gods ... cos TNT's UU is very scary
RobiD77: hehe, well we have had luck in our dealing with them

Battle Island Barbs are tough
RobiD77: funnily enough the barbs have put up more of a fight then them
fe3333au: bloody barbs killed a warrior and a worker
RobiD77: we've lost about 3 warriors and a swordsman to them
fe3333au: far out !!! ... lucky TNT can't hire them LOL
RobiD77: and the swordsman was attacking on open ground a warrior ... yet we take out 3 immos on a hill without a fuss, go figure
fe3333au: love the game
RobiD77: hehe we had a warrior exploring near them, he took out 2 of their warrior plus 2 horseman bfore they finally managed to kill him

Knowledge trading again ... they will offer Monarchy
fe3333au: so you could be interested in Currency and or Republic ??? ... do you have Monarchy?
RobiD77: Currency, yes, Republic, possibly and we will have monarchy in about 10 turns, maybe a little less
fe3333au: will you contact us ??
RobiD77: for sure, we are always happy to trade :)
fe3333au: nice to hear
RobiD77: If you have anything in mind to trade for monarchy if your interested were always willing to listen

KISS communications
fe3333au: So did KISS tell you that they are at War ... or soon to be at war??
RobiD77: no, they haven't, all they have done is make a tentative approach about trading for monarchy
fe3333au: getting Monarchy from you?
RobiD77: yes

< Hmmm ... Whomp was leading us astray >
RobiD77: i believe they have put up construction and a to be determined ammount of gold on offer
RobiD77: don't know if that help you with their possible intensions towards you
fe3333au: Well we can probably do a better deal ... remind us nearer the event again
fe3333au: yes ... Monarchy is a good war government
RobiD77: and they can swap quickly
fe3333au: yes ... good strategy to collect government types

Still at war ... and big unit cost for Nuts
RobiD77: well we arn't looking for republic atm moment since we are still at war and someone worked out that if we were to switch to republic we would need 64gpt to maintain our military
fe3333au: **** ... good point ... that's where Currency and luxes help
RobiD77: but if we can get a peace agreement then we would look to get republic
RobiD77: yes, well if we can trade a couple of luxes then that would give both of us a leg up

About Trust ... and sewing seeds of paranoia into other
fe3333au: It is hard to get trust again though ... especially if the other was the instigator
RobiD77: well we have asked for a ZoC to be put in place, which has ended up being a sticking point
RobiD77: Zones of Control
fe3333au: even division of continent?
RobiD77: they can't enter anything south of the jungle, we can't go north of the jungle, with the jungle itself neutral ... but they only want offensive units banned
fe3333au: luxes in the jungle are yours though ;-)
RobiD77: we want everything ... well the silks will be at least, the gems, will be more difficult

TNT and Jungle Luxes
fe3333au: Does TNT even know about the luxes?
RobiD77: they would know about the gems

< Nice I like off the record :mischief: >
RobiD77: now this next bit is off the record
fe3333au: I agree
RobiD77: you know the wonder in the jungle i was telling you about last time
fe3333au: say again ... don't have the thread open
RobiD77: well last time we spoke i said your warrior might find a surprise in the jungle if he keeps heading east through it
fe3333au: yes
RobiD77: well the surprise is TNT built a road through the jungle from there side to ours to advance their troop movement, this was the unexpected direction thier attack was suppose to come from
fe3333au: and then you used it against them ?
RobiD77: the road runs over the gems so they know they are there ... not yet anyway, but we saw the construction and knew where they were coming from
fe3333au: I see you a city planted will have automatic connection to the gems
RobiD77: yes but quite a waste of resources, putting a road through the jungle if you ask me

< Warning Joke Alert ! ... Impending Joke Alert >

RobiD77: all it didn't was bring their troop to die at the front line faster
fe3333au: I guess it looked good on paper LOL
RobiD77: did i should say ... we basically focused our defences on it since why would they go to all the trouble to build it just to come from another direction ... they are limiting their own options

<Ta Da :D >

fe3333au: can't wait to see the highway to hell
RobiD77: but thats off the record since you haven't seen the road yet
fe3333au: sure ... but you can use my ACDC reference
fe3333au:
RobiD77: hehe
RobiD77: sure, i will it a good one

Activity of TNT players
fe3333au: so you got more active players again?
RobiD77: not really no, everyones kinda gone all casual atm ... they are there but not posting regularly
fe3333au: so you have a core of how many actives ... we have about 7ish ... with 4-5 hardcore
RobiD77: atm 4 regulars and about 8 casuals ... use to be the other way around
fe3333au: cIV? ... or is it getting boring for some
RobiD77: possibly, maybe boredom too, but from what i've seen its just starting to get interesting
fe3333au: for us too ... our core is solid addiction LOL
RobiD77: a possible 2nd war, a possible new peace, lauching an attack plus some multi directional treachery what more could you want

< another joke >

fe3333au: a beer or two?
RobiD77: well that can be self supplied:-)

RobiD77: its funny that we had more people posting when we had a city a warrior and a boat then we do now with all this action going on
fe3333au: yes ... but we never really had a big input ... majority of names on our list have never posted

Fun in the UN ... Gen_W :salute:
RobiD77: i was thinking maybe general w i think it was had a good idea with the international newspaper thing ... i don't think it would harm the game if some info was declassified so to speak, plus throw in some jokes and a rumor or 2 and we have a first class rag
fe3333au: yes ... don't know about your team ... but we are have fun internally ... and the newpaper was an extension of that ... I've been feeling for a long time that there is no interaction and fun in the UN
RobiD77: well we get up to some laughs, and the un hasn't been the same since provo was gagged by his team
fe3333au: he he he
fe3333au: we have had polls to predict what would be popped from goody huts, who we meet first, who we fight first, etc
RobiD77: i mean i think a lot of info all the teams know about anyway since where talking to each other, so i think having a fun newspaper might generate some more interest in the game

About our early polls
RobiD77: so who did you think you would first meet
fe3333au: KISS
RobiD77: hehe
fe3333au: you came sailing past very early in the game
RobiD77: hehe, sadly, we were kinda hoping it wasn't you ... we were hoping that we were sharing our continent with you, but when we saw you we knew we had one of the other teams
fe3333au: how come ... who were you hoping to meet first?
fe3333au: oh I see ... our UU is non aggressive and therefore a better neighbour?
RobiD77: well we figure since both TNT and KISS had a very powerful AA UU they would be more likely to get involved in an early war, which unfortunately we were correct about
fe3333au: I wonder what a KISS and Nut continent would have been like ... as I see TNT were destined to be warring with any and every neighbour
RobiD77: I think either you or kiss would have been better than tnt ... not that thats difficult

Score Talk
RobiD77: just to show you the futility of our war, the turn before the war start both us and TNT were around 20 points ahead of you and KISS, now 60 turns later were both over 100 points behind you and KISS and the gaps growing
fe3333au: Regarding VP's, KISS guard their lead jealously ... take that from someone with experience
RobiD77: hehe, we wont be catching up anytime soon ... we have to stop falling behind first

Psychology of Robi ... and Nutters
fe3333au: Did you pick your UU as a good aggressive unit or a unit to act as a deterent to others?
RobiD77: Mainly to deter other, our plan was to be peaceful, use the agricutural trait to expand quickly, do some tech trades where possible secure our positions then getting on with trying to win the game, i guess kinda what kiss have done so far

Gossip about KISS members
fe3333au: They have ScoutsOut ... and he has written articles about war
RobiD77: really, i should have a look at them
fe3333au: They are in the War Room or whatever the military section of the site is called
RobiD77: hmmm should be a good reference
RobiD77: i guess i have the advantage since i'm fairly new im a bit of an unknown quantity
fe3333au: That is handy for you ;-)
RobiD77: it is, i looked up provos and donsig history so i know there triats and tendancies. It came in handy.
RobiD77: also i played provo in a couple of MP games
fe3333au: i got involved through Clasical_Hero who invited me to join his team ... I play pbem with him
RobiD77: ok, well this is my first pbem. i figured it would be the best way to see how they work. I thought i would just offer advice in the background and observe but the next thing i know i running the show

< Discussion of what games and people we play and cIV >

Summarize
RobiD77: well i suppose i should get some sleep as i have to work tomorrow :(
fe3333au: good talking hope we will be able to cement some dealings soon
RobiD77: but as far as the wines-ivory thing goes, its a done deal from our side and as soon as our harbours up and running you will be hearing from us :)
fe3333au: excellent

Luck in War
fe3333au: hope the war goes well ... and you don't run into any more tough barbs LOL
RobiD77: hope so, or at least a decent peace
RobiD77: hey we ran into a hoard of 8 horseman barbs a few turns ago, we avoided them and haven't seen them since, amybe they went off to bother TNT
fe3333au: means there's a camp nearby
RobiD77: probably, but i've never seen 8 in a stack before wondering around
fe3333au: lucky we were not set to raging ... as I voted for

RobiD77: anyway have a good night and we'll chat soon about further deals:-)
fe3333au: cya
RobiD77 signed off at 2:51:46 AM.

@ Peter ... I still don't have the font ... could you get a contract for Ivory/Wine with Nuts ... we should get that signed asap (well in next couple of turns) :D

Awesome work (as always!) :goodjob:

Well – it looks like KISS is looking to trade, but not recruit an ally for war. Which is very good news.

Unfortunately, there's probably no way we can prevent Dnuts from trading with KISS (since we can't give away construction, and KISS can) but I think we should still trade with them. The extra good-will is always nice… and if we trade them Republic and Currency, we reduce the options for future trades between KISS and the Nuts.

Regrettably – this means we'll soon be facing a KISS in a Monarchy form of government… right about the time our peace deal expires. (not that this fact had any bearing on KISS's actions! ) KISS will trade construction and maybe some gold for Monarchy, dump their Republic, and then shortly after that go to war with us.
This does put us in a bit of a precarious situation with our new Republic – especially if the war drags on as long as the TNT Dnut one has.
Oh well – I'm sure we'll overcome!
(anyone want to re-consider researching Chivalry?)

Anyway – those are my reactions to this chat. Mostly positive news – and we can now predict what KISS will do… the question is, how do we use this knowledge to our advantage?

This just in to our gmail box!

Big news!

To the Governments of MIA and KISS,

You will note that when you take your respective turns, that were once the TNT city of Carpetbomb stood, is now a nice pile of rubble.
Thank you,

General Robi D, Doughnutia

This sounds VERY bad for TNT.
How could they let this happen?!?

Draft mode

Dear Robi_D of the gallant Doughnutters

Well seems that the war is going very well for you ... surprise attack? ... We want all the juicy details ... especially the ones that can't be printed in the papers ;)

Onward to further victories :salute:

Carpetbomb?! The size 5 town in the north center by TNT's core?!

I would say that this should make the KISSMIA war much less likely. Since we have reached strong compared to KISS, I hope KISS can see that fighting MIA will hand Dnuts the game. I don't know if KISS' military advisor has given them the news about Dnuts strength relative to TNT, but we can tell KISS if their advisor hasn't.

I think it's pretty obvious that we cannot fight on our continent right now and have any hope of winning the game. KISS and MIA are too evenly matched right now, and Dnuts will steamroll TNT before any real progress is made on the Green continent. Hopefully, it is obvious to KISS as well....

Problem is that KISS most likely expect us to attack them now ... so it will take a lot for them to stand down :(

Another question ... is there anything we can do ... or want to do for TNT?

or do we join the route of the weakest and gain spoils?

:mischief: Just playing the devil here

If KISS expects an attack, then it is because they are trying to make us attack. We requested an extended peace deal with KISS several times - they refused to extend, and they cancelled our current deal. We gave no indication we wanted to attack, and I think we still don't want to.

We need a long-term peace deal in place or both of us will watch helplessly as Dnuts control an entire continent (although I think we should wait until we get the save before approaching KISS).

I don't think there is anything we can do etiher to help TNT or gain spoils from their demise. We certainly can't send military over for either right now. TNT is still in a pop-rush government so cash is not that helpful - we could give them gold to help them upgrade to pikes and immortals if they have any spears and warriors left, but really they can turn off research and do that themselves - Engineering won't help them that much so turning off research won't hurt them.

I think we are forced to do nothing unless KISS will sign a long-term peace deal.

Shall we pen a letter to KISS requesting a chat to discuss how this event alters the diplomatic topography?

I'd certainly try and be available for that chat, either in a whispers room or the conference room.

The more I think about it, the more I think we are better off waiting a few turns. Certainly we shouldn't let it get to turn 103 without speaking, but I think we really want to give KISS time to come to the obvious conclusion on their own - if we bring it up before they have realized it on their own, then they may be more likely to see it as us just trying to push a peace deal on them again although they've told us several times they don't want one.

Maybe KISS hasn't even reached strong to TNT yet, so they don't know what a mismatch the other continent has become. I think we should be patient for now, and let them get the full picture themselves without our trying to convince them. As turn 104 gets closer, there will still be time to avert war - let's not push them before they are ready and scare them off.

I agree with Cham here. We can afford to wait a few turns.

But I fear this war will have to happen anyway. Maybe after KISS learns the hard way that this will be a stale-mate, and after Dnuts cripple TNT even further… then just maybe KISS will come to their senses.

But who knows? Maybe TNT will rally? Maybe KISS will wake up sooner?
We can wait a few turns… there's a lot we don't know still.

Good points, Chamnix. But I think that KISS is currently "STRONG" to TNT

Turn 94, TNT has between 289-299, based on our upgrade analysis where we passed from Average to Strong.

Turn 96, KISS has between 387-392, based on our upgrades.

We know for a fact that TNT lost at least 1 unit (DonsigII - my money's on Immortal), and they likely lost a spearman or two in CarpetBomb. So if anything, TNT has less than 289.

TNT @~ 285 to KISS is WEAK
KISS @~ 390 to TNT is STRONG

You are probably right - I'd like to think that TNT built at least 1-2 units on turns 95-96 among all the libraries, and there is some chance that TNT abandoned Carpetbomb instead of losing a spear or two (Dnuts didn't actually say they razed it, and TNT did mention possibly abandoning a town - I never considered that it might be that town, but...), so there is some possibility that KISS doesn't know yet.

Letter of congrats to Robi of the Nutters

Dear Robi_D of the gallant Doughnutters

Well seems that the war is going very well for you ... surprise attack? ... We want all the juicy details ... especially the ones that can't be printed in the papers ;)

On further investigation we were awed on sighting the smoking, razed remains of a once grand city ... now only populated by the rats and carrion birds, feeding in a frenzy on the bloated carcasses of the TNT dead.

We have also noted that you have cut off the supply of TNT Ivory :shakehead ... surely this is close to the killing blow :D

Onwards to grander victories :salute:

Chatted with Robi ... will edit later

RobiD77: hi fe, how are you
fe3333au: not bad ... gotta go on 10 minutes
RobiD77: thats ok, i can't stay on for long either, i was hoping KISS had played there turn so i could do some forward planning
fe3333au: don't know if they had ...

Goodjob on Carpetbomb Razing
fe3333au: congrats about capetbomb
RobiD77: thanks, we took them by surprise a bit :)

< Wow another City as well  >

fe3333au: so will there be peace on Battle Island
RobiD77: well, its up to tnt now, but in the current situation we can see pluses going either way
fe3333au: you may very well have broken their backs
RobiD77: personally i would like to devote more resources to expanding a bit more, but if they want to keep having our MW's pop over for some tea and destruction then so be it
fe3333au: LOL
RobiD77: well they wont be in any position to mount an attack on us for quite a while ... they have lost cities and units

< keeping Score >
