machine:c3c 1.22
level:emperor
map: pangea
size:small
civs: all random
barbs: random
rules: none
allowed victories: space only
roster:seasoned civvers, noobies, war horses, builders, nerds, grumpy ol men, blind mice and just plain Idiots. You get it, it's an all open.

The Main Objective: To have fun! Most of us are tired of SG´s that stall and die, right? Well, with DOSS I'm trying to fix that. Sure we all like the pre-game silly season-ish discussion and the goofy variants, the On Deck call and the elaborate dot maps, but this is a different game.
To start with there's no roster. Anyone online and with 20 minutes to spare can take a stab, provided you're first to post a Got It. If 2 players post Got It and play, the save from number one in the thread should be played by next.
There is no variant involved. We just play the game and win as fast as we can. Exploits are ok as long as there is no outright cheating.
SS as VC is because a succession of really good players can win on domination before you can say "got it".
Max turns per play is 20, but if you only can manage 7 then do 7 and post.
If you have the time to attach a screenie, that is encouraged but if you don't that's fine too.
Turnplay Log? No, you don't have to do that. Whoever opens the save will get the picture.
Can we get the SS in place before X-mas?

lurker's comment:
1st Post!

This looks likes a real fun ride, but I can't join. Mrs. CommandoBob wants me go through all my old computer stuff and get rid of the trash. I hope that just means only the DOS stuff (but I will keep Civ I).

So, no hand-off notes, either?

EDIT:
No Turn-Logs?

 I've been doing SGs for too long. That seems like naked gaming.

Great idea "no turnlog"!. But Emperor needs some planing ahead. I may participate if sav after first 20 turns will be OK. What Civ ? (Scientific, I think?)

Sounds like a nice breather, something to jump in on when you aren't up in any SG's and you're disgusted with your lack of progress in the current XOTM's. I might join in now and then. No rules and no turn-logs, interesting. Sounds like my solo efforts.

Last one I remember was Handy Sid SG. I think did not start out that way, but just became an open SG.

Oh, not going to be done before weekend without a start save.

20 minutes, 20 minutes, what can I do in 20 minutes?

hmm....

Well, no start is posted so I'll do that.

And the save is >>HRERE<<.

This took 26 minutes, not 20 (load game, start game, screenshots, save games, edit screenshoots, new folder at Photobucket, upload files and create and edit post.)

I'll try to do better next time. :D

@Lark-- I dunno what civ we'll get cause it's random. We'll have to play what we get. I agree emperor needs some planning, but in this one we must do that "in flight" so to say. By that I mean a short note from every turnplayer (not exactly a full log) on what he/she was thinking, e.g. "build a few warriors, then a granny and a settler, start pottery max speed" or "attack Iro's before they hook up horsies, rax city X and Y and sign RoP with Xerxes". More like big pic guidelines. We may disagree now and then, but that's one of the challanges. Depending on who jumps on the train, this will be easy or difficult. I opted for Emperor since I wanted a doable game but still a challange.
About planning I would recommend us to not start a war without at least some indications/comments that a war would be wise. Part from that, everyone do their best whatever skills you have. Next post from me will be the kick off.

EDIT:  brilliant CBob, you got me there. This is exactly the take off I was hoping for :band:

GOT IT!

You're only allowing Space Race? That's no fun... I understand saying you can only win by Space, but saying Space is the only allowed? Hmph...

Maybe I'll play later. Is the idea that we're only allowed 20 minutes, or that we do as many turns as we want, up to 20 turns?

Okay, I got it. 20 minutes or 20 turns, whichever comes first. I'm not sure later that 20 minutes equals one turn, but early, no problem.

number of turns is less important. the idea is that a few turns is better than none and sometimes we skip a 10 turner in the IA's just because we don't have 45 minutes to spare and then we have the usual "skip me"-request. not so in this game (I hope). Good luck 714! I'll bunk now and which this to have moved well into republic when I wake up :coffee:

I played 20 turns in about 15 minutes, took 2 screens, built 2 towns, made a nice trade for 3 techs, explorers located 4 luxes relatively close. Here is the core:

Here are the Arabs:

I don't think 20 minutes was an absolute; I think Daghdha was saying 'Whenever you had a little bit of time, even if it is only 20 minutes'. For the start up, I was using that as a time limit, to see if I could get all of that done in 20 minutes.

With no turn log, a lot can be done in 20 minutes, especially this early. Well, a lot can be done by other players in 20 minutes. Even with no turn log, I still play slow. (:old:)

On the VCs, you're right, I should have left all the VC's open.

Unless this forces the AIs into a space race, which I don't know.

Does anyone know how that works? (In more detail: does selecting a specific victory condition influence AI behavior in any perceptable way?)

EDIT:
No time to play but plenty of time to heckle. :D

I've got it, I'll play ~10 turns.

EDIT: I don't know what it is, but my mac HATES Overseer's save. I load the file, hit enter, choose a build for Niagara, and then get to wait for 10 minutes while Civ lags then crashes. This happened twice, so it looks like I'm not playing. I'll try the next save instead.

 In some of my recent games, it's been more like "we don't have 6 hours to spare" :crazyeye:

Edit: Got it.

Edit2: I'm done. I can't help but post at least a short description -

In the game, I met everyone, founded three cities (one is on Horses), and traded us up to tech parity. We're two turns from Philosophy and the Republic Slingshot, and we have a Settler headed towards some Dyes to the W of the core.

Sadly, we also lost a Worker to some barbs.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/101488/DOSS1_1300_BC.SAVAlright...hopefully I can get the first "Got IT" post...

EDIT: OK, I was...Here's the save. It's 1300 BC

Quick notes...
1) I just played 8 turns...didn't want to play too much, ya know!
2) We were the first to Philosophy and we got the Republic slingshot
3) We drew 3 turns of Anarchy!!!
4) On the turn before we became a republic, Sumeria demanded we give them Philosophy (they were cautious and we had a relatively equal military) so I declined and they did not declare war. However, Arabia also demanded we give them Philosophy...they were a little more powerful and had plenty of units all around (they are right next to us...) I caved in...
5)sorry for the settler and warrior pair heading to the north east still on queued moves...I forgot before I exited to select it
