WAR ERUPTS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

A Vietnamese fighter moves to intercept Chinese bombers

Louangophrabang, Socialist Republic of Vietnam - In supposed retaliation against the Communist uprisings across Southeast Asia, the Indonesian and Chinese nations have declared war on Vietnam. The war, which has been named the Indochinese War, has been split on two theaters so far. The first is the ground campaign, led by the Chinese. The second is the naval campaign, carried out by the Indonesians.

In Burma, the Chinese 42nd Army Group and Vietnamese 1st Corps both fortified their positions, with the Chinese settling in the tropical river valley and the Vietnamese digging into the wooded highlands. Chinese shelling and light naval strikes from the South Sea Fleet have inflicted minor casualties to the Vietnamese forces, and attacks by Marxist guerrillas have done damage to the Chinese in turn. In Laos, the Chinese 27th Army Group crossed the border with support from the Wang Hai Air Wing. Unknown to the Chinese, the Vietnamese had taken up positions in the dense jungle and had situated artillery emplacements atop the hills behind them. The 4th Corps waited for the Chinese to close in and once the enemy 27th Army Group was well within range, the Vietnamese rained shells and rockets down upon them, which was followed by an assault. The Chinese took substantial casualties, but still managed to hold their footing in Laos. In the Skies over northern Laos, the Wang Hai Wing had severe difficulty finding Vietnamese targets in Laos, and was unable to adequately support their ground invasion. Many installations and fortifications seemed to blend in with the jungle which led to blind bombing. While over Laos, the wing was intercepted by the Vietnamese Sao Do Wing, which managed to down a handful of Chinese aircraft before both broke off.

In the South China Sea, the Indonesian Eastern Fleet, fresh from the whipping of the Vietnamese Navy, maneuvered to begin making its second round of strikes against the Vietnam. Expecting to encounter Vietnamese aircraft, the Eastern Fleet sent its destroyers out first, which would be able to better protect the capital ships. What the Indonesians didn’t count on, were anti-ship missile gunners and their knowledge of the attackers’ crippled carrier. Although the Indonesians were able to shoot down most of the missiles, two managed to hit their target and avenged their comrades lost at sea. The success was short lived as the Indonesians soon tore through their positions.

A Sniper of the Southeastern Army engages government forces in São Paulo

São Paulo, People’s Republic of Brazil - Continuing their unwavering support for the Brazilian Peoples Movement, the Southeastern Army moved south to end the Republican stranglehold on Brazil’s most populous city. The soldiers were greeted by jubilant crowds who were happy to see the first step towards the downfall of Ricardo Honorato de Moraes’ defunct and corrupt regime. On the way to São Paulo, pro-BPM forces liberated Londrina, and the Socialist control of the two cities has effectively boxed out the Brazil’s southern region to Republican forces. A small skirmish between the Southeastern Army and the Atlantic Army resulted in Republican casualties as the soldiers of the Atlantic Army found themselves outgunned, outclassed, and outnumbered by their Socialist foes. Support from the Republican 1st Fleet managed to deal damage to the Socialists, but strikes were limited due to orders not to do damage to the city.

Elsewhere in Brazil, riots have picked up throughout Republican held territory, particularly in the northern areas, around the cities of Salvador and Montes Claros. This is widely attributed to both the lack of Republican forces and the spread of Socialist propaganda demonizing Republican soldiers and leaders. The only exceptions to this were the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte and their surrounding areas, which have been subject to crackdowns by both police and soldiers of the Atlantic Army and have been presently dubbed the “secure zone”. Due to continued problems in and around Brasilia, President Honorato has fled. It is believed that he is in the Republican secure zone, but his specific whereabouts are unknown. It is believed he and his family are to be evacuated via ship so he can lead his forces from the safety of a foreign state.

THE GOLDEN EAGLE PERCHES IN HAVANA

A Mexican infantryman takes cover during the battle for Havana

Havana, Occupied Cuba - Mexican forces stormed into Cuba’s capital this month, capturing the last bastion of Cuban resistance. Originally, the plan regarding the city was to surround it and starve it into submission which was endorsed American military commanders. Mexican commanders quickly grew impatient and ordered the Americans to cease bombing and allow for an assault. Reluctantly, American forces stopped bombing runs and cruise missile strikes and the Mexicans moved in. Gunships dominated the skies and provided support for ground units. Tanks and armored vehicles powered through roadblocks and took away the Cubans ability to fight in the streets. Most resistance was found in Old Havana, as was the fiercest fighting in the entire war. Entire blocks were leveled to take out snipers and anti-tank teams. Many men were lost, but in the end, the Mexicans found themselves on top.

The victory in Cuba, and the dauntless actions of the Ejército del Sur resonated throughout Mexico. This wasn’t necessarily because the Mexicans defeated Cuba, but more that they managed to show up the Americans, considered to be the strongest, most sophisticated military power on the planet. Many anticipate the division of Cuba and expect Mexico should get the lion’s share of the territory seeing as they did most of the fighting.

EUROS AND INDIANS NECK AND NECK

Johann Visser, spokesperson for the ESA, speaks to the press about newly completed programs

El Hierro, European Federation - This month marked the construction of the world’s second spaceport and the end of India’s iron grip on space technologies. Early this month, the European Space Agency broke ground on its first spaceport on the island of El Hierro, the westernmost of the Canary Islands. The best geographical candidate, French Guiana, on the South American continent, was deemed too risky with the recent happenings in Brazil and the possibility of such an important and expensive facility falling to a foreign nation. The Canary Islands, although in the backyard of the United Islamic Republic, are well within the jurisdiction of the European Federation’s fleets, and thus a much more secure location. The completed facilities are on par with the standards set by the Indian facilities in Addu City, and the spaceport is destined to be the focal point of the European space program for years to come.

European researchers received a massive boost in government financial support, which, coupled with India’s lack of research progress this month, brought Euros ahead in the race to weaponized satellites. The ISRO does however have a lead in the number of space vehicles in their inventory, with a single shuttle and a geocentric spy satellite, and many more such vehicles to come. Many in the international community are claiming this sudden jump in European space research to be the end of India’s reign. Several site the EF’s clear economic advantage over the Indians and Europe’s control over debt issues. The Indians are certainly not out of the race though, as both the Europeans and Indians could potentially have the capabilities to put armed satellites in orbit by as soon as next month.

Future Nuclear Technologies On Horizon

Moscow, Russian Federation - News from the nuclear weapons program in Russia has revealed that additional technologies are available for states that have the ability to construct nuclear weapons. Nuclear states could potentially build intercontinental ballistic missiles with massive nuclear warheads which have a nearly endless range as well as the facilities to house and launch them. Additionally, researchers have theories on how to improve the production methods used for building nuclear weapons, which could, potentially drastically decrease the cost to build nukes. This technology would mean creating vast nuclear arsenals would be much more feasible than previously thought.

Two More Nations Bagged By South Africa

Nampula, Union of South Africa - Capitalizing on the destruction of Mozambican forces near Quelimane, the South African juggernaut continued their conquest of East Africa. The lack of a proper garrison in Mozambique meant the country could be defeated with only the Second Legion, and the First Legion was dispatched to neighboring Malawi. Both nations were captured with ease, and South Africa continues to hold its title as the fastest growing nation on the planet.

Vietnamese-Brunei Union Official

Bandar Seri Begawan, Socialist Republic of Vietnam - The newly Communist controlled state of Brunei and their close Vietnamese friends agreed to a formal union making the two countries one. The government of Brunei, once called the Tentera Nasional Kalimantan Utara, has always had close ties with the Vietnamese since the beginning of the year, and welcomed the union with open arms. The move has been seen as the first step towards increased socialist control of insular Southeast Asia, especially with the present situation in Malaysia.

Eastern Malaysia Firmly In MRLA Hands

Sibu, Malaysia - The Malayan Races Liberation Army has declared its control over the Sarawak and Sabah territories to be absolute, and the news is attributed in no small part to Communist control in neighboring Brunei. The Malaysian government has declared its intention to send a fair portion of its military to break the back of the insurrection. This poses problems for the government, however, as the large military garrison in peninsular Malaysia is key to keeping the MRLA at bay. Many are watching the situation closely, as the next few months will show whether socialism takes another victim.

Mediterranean Fleet Passes Through Malacca Straits

Singapore, Republic of Singapore - The lone fleet of the United Islamic Republic was spotted passing through the Straits of Malacca this month, headed full steam for the South China Sea. Islamic military officials stated the fleet’s purpose was to assist their Chinese allies in their fight against the Vietnamese menace. Although the fleet is minuscule compared to most of the Asian fleets, many are happy to see a nation, which would otherwise have no business in the region, holding up its end of an alliance.

UIR Forces On The Move

Kuwait City, United Islamic Republic - The armored vehicles of the Army of the Nile rolled into Kuwait this month as the UIR continues its conquest of the Arabian Peninsula. Kuwaiti ground troops put up a fierce fight, but the might of the Fuad I Air Wing ultimately brought them to their knees. With the capture of the country, the UIR now controls one of the most important ports on the Persian Gulf, which will be important for future military operations in the area.

Nouméa, Austral Union - The last of the island nations in the Fiji Basin has finally fallen to the Austral Union. Like most of their victims, New Caledonia had no military large enough to pose a threat to the larger and vastly superior Austral forces.

Japs Fight PKP Forces

Dumaguete, Occupied Philippines - Japanese forces have continued their attacks against the Philippines this month, although this time they face a different enemy. Government forces, nearly obliterated by the Japanese onslaught, have been over powered by the popular Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas which acts as the nation’s de facto ruling party, as they have full control of all non-occupied islands. Well equipped PKP fighters on Negros Island managed to stall the Army of Kyushu from making considerable gains and dealt serious casualties to the attacking Japanese. Philippine forces on the island have fallen back to the city of Bacolod and have begun taking measures to fortify it against attack. PKP troops on the island of Leyte didn’t fair nearly as well, as the Army of Honshu made quick work of them soon after landing.

Anti-Communist Crackdowns in Indonesia

Tarakam, Republic of Indonesia - Reactions to last month’s uprisings by the Indonesian Communist Party were strong and hard with Indonesian troops moving to put them down. The TNI-AD East worked to quash Communist insurgents rampaging though Kalimantan. The insurgents, obviously equipped by more successful forces across the northern border, made the government soldiers pay for every square foot of land they reclaimed. On Sumatra, the TNI-AD West put down insurrection more easily and with a bit less bloodshed. So far, throughout the country, the socialists have appeared to have melted back into the rainforests except for a weak holdout in Aceh.

Charred Azerbaijan Submits To Russians

Baku, Russian Federation - The subjugation of the Caucasus nations has formally begun as the Azerbaijanis surrendered to Russian forces in a desperate plea to stop Russia’s firebombing campaigns. The 2nd Guards Tank Army has moved in and quickly began to round up both Armenian and Azerbaijani government officials who were then loaded onto trains headed for Moscow to await kangaroo trials and executions for “war crimes”. Civilians suspected of being resisters have also been rounded up and thrown in crudely constructed camps and old prisons. Russian soldiers, taking advantage of their ability to act as judges and juries, have taken to terrorizing and violating local women. The situation in the region is so hellish and appalling, even the Russian people who see the introduction of the two countries into the federation as an accomplishment are beginning to show their disgust at the actions of their government and military.

Brazilians Lose Foreign Territories

Asunción, Argentine Republic - Taking advantage of Brazil’s internal issues, the European and Argentine governments have quickly snatched up all of Brazil’s territories abroad. Argentine forces quickly stormed Paraguay and the 1st Army took out Republican military police forces, the only armed units in the country, with ease. The Amazonian Army, reacting to a possible Argentine invasion, maneuvered to counter the 1st Army’s movements which created a standoff of sorts. Meanwhile, in West Africa, the European Southern Fleet and Das Altes Heer seized the Cape Verde islands. If the Brazilians wish to re-establish themselves as an empire, they will need to start from scratch.

Euros Beat On Balkans

Sarajevo, European Federation - The battle hardened L'Ancienne Armée mopped up resistance in Croatia and moved into Bosnia and Herzegovina this month. Bosnian troops fought hard once the invasion began, but eventually broke down when the full force of the European war machine was brought against them. Although all the fighting occurred in Croatia and Bosnia, the most interesting scenes were across the border in Serbia. Serbian forces, watching their neighbors fall like dominoes, have mobilized and have begun constructing defenses across the western half of the country. Incredibly large amounts of armored vehicles have been positioned to turn a European invasion into a field of corpses and burned out vehicles.

President Ernesto Fernandez Ousted

Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic - President Fernandez and his Vice President have both stepped down after calls from the Argentine senate for his resignation were made this month. Because of Argentine law, Maria Vasques Carmen, the provisional President of the Senate, was automatically lifted to the status of President, and she accepted. Carmen, a staunch opponent of Brazil’s being part of the Pan-American group, has made calls for Brazilian removal from said group and intervention in the current crisis in Brazil. The new president has grabbed the support of a good portion of the Argentine public as she seems to share the same views as those protesting in the streets.

As you can see, not only have your vaunted army and air force failed to take any significant portion of Vietnamese land, they have taken extreme casualties from a force half their size. For the second time this year.

We suggest that you end this bloodshed and withdrawal from Burma. The people of Indochina have no wish to see the Chinese here, and you and your allies do no have the ability to subject us. In return for your withdrawal from Burma and Laos, we would be willing to pay 20c over the next three years. We suggest you use this money to hire new generals.

I seems that you made a fool of us on purpose. All those press conference, strategy meets and debates we hear you either telling us for not doing enough because we are rebuilding, or doing too much for launching a flank attack directly into Havanna... that you should have done since the beginning. Then, you didn't dissent when we came out with our current plan... and proceed to cut short right in the middle! That is BILLIONS of wasted money for that move alone. Not to mention the bravery of our Airforce. Comparing the advance with and without, it is instrumental that, every year, we dedicate it to your forces while your air force sits pretty.
