Could the database be maybe reduced in size a bit by removing members who never posted and not logged in for maybe a few months? of course, it's probably another part so it probably wont work but wont hurt to suggest:blush:

I was a moderator for a few years on a forum as large as this one. We tried that, and 10s of 1000s of unused user accounts were deleted. As a whole the Admin did not find that that action improved database performance.

If they've never posted, removing them won't really free up space. Storing a small amount of data about their registration is pretty insignificant, I assume.

Best is: wait for the database to migrate to another operating system that is not 32 bit windows :mischief: - which is supposed to happen soon, so I guess patience is in order :)
Getting rid of posters that may only have registered to play in the HOF or in GOTMs or are only downloading stuff might cause more troubles without solving the problem :)

It looks like the problem was caused by the posts table in the database exceeded 4 GB, which is the MySQL limit for the current OS type. A complete solution for the problem may require a new OS installation on the database server that allows bigger limit.

Edit: gah x-post :gripe:

If so, what about deleting perfection? would that help free up space?

We could always delete his account and his post's, make him start a new one, and a mod could edit and give perfy his 3000+ postcount.

Deleting the top five posters would free up over 100,000 posts, but then you'd lose a lot of threads (and would have orphan threads, too).

Improved server = fewer problems :)

... What?!

I hope you are not serious about that .

Of course she's not serious about it. It would cause way to many problems if we were to do that.

But the idea does have merit....
