Dawn of Civilization General Discussion

Does this actually work? I know it does with Ethiopia and Orthodoxy still, but I tried a Congo game in mid-June and my Great Prophet could not spread Catholicism. I intentionally tried exactly what you described here (running Deification) because of the observed issues with natural spread.
Damn, you're right. And yet Congo is in Catholicism's historical area, is it not?

Maybe a scripted spread can be implemented similar to that for the spread of Islam to Indonesia? Would just need for Congo to contact Portugal between 1400 and 1600 (time frame can be adjusted).

I personally would find it better if a Congolese Great Prophet could spread Catholicism to Congo even while pagan instead of a scripted spread. First, it's not like Congo needs another kind of great person anyways, so may as well target this one. Second, it helps with UHV1 by spreading Catholicism to multiple cities at once. Third, it's just way less subject to variance --- while Portugal is likely to still be alive and will probably naturally contact you, or you can send a Pombos through Narnia to make contact, it just leaves that extra element of annoying variance. There's enough variance IMO in Congolese UHV 2/3, and in the size of the Catholic world for UHV 1, that there should be some predictability in UHV 1 in at least getting Catholicism in the first place. Generating a Great Prophet helps with that a lot.

Thanks for all this discussion, but please let me check first if there is something broken, or if there is a special combination of circumstances preventing religion spread from working. There is supposed to be a mechanism for long distance religion spread and it has worked on the old map. I already have a note for this, I just need to get around to it.

That might be the cause of the issue.

How can I see the code behind the unique powers? Assets\Python\UniquePowers.py doesn't have most of them. For example, I want to how Java's unique power (more food on islands) is implemented.

:EDIT: for those who are seeing this, the solution was in the CvPlot.cpp file for Java.

There is no general place where all UPs are implemented. They are implemented where the logic they impact is implemented.

Hello Leoreth , first of all thank you for all the hard work on this mod , i'm new here but been following your work since 3 years ago , it's a beautiful project that has kept me coming back to this old classic game.
I wanted to ask about what's next for the mod after completing the city names ? i would love an improvement on the aesthetic of certain Civs (The late Arabian units for example revert to their original base game model while they had beduine/Soviet weaponry in version 1.17)

There is no big feature left on the agenda. My main focus now is game balance in terms of tech speed, civ strengths, and UHV difficulty. After that, the only thing left is rounding out the game aesthetically and completing some work that I intentionally left for the end like dynamic names, great people names, UHV titles etc.

There has been no intentional change in unit art. You are probably comparing the state on the development branch with the VD module with a previous release that had the module included.

Can someone remind me which file the civ-specific tech multipliers reside in? I remember numbers that were something like 140 for Egypt and Babylon, all the way down to 60 or 70 for European civs.

indeed it is , is there a way to make the VD module work with the Github versions releases or do we have to wait for the official 1.18 release ?
