Dawn of Tommorow: Modern and into the Future: Development thread

Britian has to be an independent civ IMHO. I don't like the idea of us just being a part of the EU.

Shouldn't the title of the mod be "Dawn of tomorrow" - i.e. single "m" and double "r"?

Good luck with the mod :) .

How about the Venezuelans? South Africa? Egypt? Maybe a morocco/tunisia/algeria combination state? But how can you see North Korea as holding any relavance in the information age?

Many people don't like the idea of us being a part of the EU. ;) Nonetheless in civ terms things like technology and politics are handled by the EU rather than the British government.

(Hint: Think nuclear)

Think Nuclear? OK. So if a country pumps practically all of its resouces into making a Nuke that could (with a fair wind) perhaps hit Alaska then it is considered to be one of the most important 31 countries in the world? Wow. IMO North Korea is a paper tiger. Without Chinese support it would have crumbled years ago. What kind of role do you see North Korea playing in the 'Information Age', except as low tech barbarians?

Then again, a similar thing could be said of Israel's US support I suppose.

I don't know but as it stands having North Korea in the mod makes sense only because they are a rogue state. I am trying to mimic world geo-politics as close as possible, with the suggestions of you guys.

In a world map game North Korea would be at a serious disadvantage, I'd make it a scenerio by giving South Korea extra starting techs and a better terrain location.

Eight units to add to the Second age and then I move on to improvements and wonders, any ideas for those?

I was thinking maybe Dinosaur Park for one?

Well, I don't want to rock the boat with the Koreans, they would be an 'interesting' civ to play I suppose. :)

SoG, have you played Call to Power? There are several Wonders and improvements in the future age that could be adapted to this mod. For some wonders how about:

'The Gaia controller' for a nano-tech advance, places recycling center in all cities.
'Space Elevator' in the early space age, increases trade (like the Colossus).
'US Robots and Mechanical Men HQ' in the Synthetic Age, from Isaac Asimov's novels, increases production?
Some kind of 'Supercollider' in the information age, doubles research in one city.
'SETI' could be retained as in the standard game.
'Immortality' to replace 'Longievity', in the synthetic age.
'Skynet' at 'True Artificial Intelligence', makes people happy but might cause a 'meltdown'.
'Star Wars' in the energy age, increases city defences.

I'll have a think for some more and let you know if I come up with anything really good. One question - what is the tech tree for the 3rd age (Energy Age) going to look like and revolve around.

Information Age, Synthetic Age, Energy Age, and Space Age

Info Age:

Research Facility
Microbe Factory (Barracks I suppose)

Synthetic Age:

Fiber Factory (Increases culture and production?)
Slavery Facility (Improves Production)

Energy Age:
Hydro Plant (Extreme power, not regular)
Elastic Energy (Wonder) (Makes population increase by 2 each time?)

Space Age:
International Space Station (Wonder) (Increases culture and production)
Space Station (Land one) (Increases culture)

Wow great ideas everyone! We should focus on the 2nd era for now though, since I need to finish that off before I can move onto the next era.

I never played Call to Power but i saw the add for it, I remember the line about "What if Al Gore Invented the Internet" man that was funny....

Well, to focus on it we need an idea of what it is. :D Synthetic to me suggests that there would be an increasing alienation of humans from nature, and that robotics, cybernetics and genetics would develop to become art forms. Is this what you had in mind?

Also, what level are we beginning at? If you're starting us at the modern tech tree in the first age then does that mean that you're keeping the improvements and wonders from the 4th age in the regular game in the 1st age of this mod? If we can get some background then we can make some decent suggestions, otherwise we'll be giving you hopelessly unbalanced stuff.

Cool! Seems every time there's an original sci-fi mod, it disappears as soon as it begins to look promising.

Yes its true. I have to say the Balancer Reloaded last 50 turns is the closest Ive come to seeing a complete Future age(never made it past HoD 3 era cuz map was to large for mod to handle)

One mod called the Omega project by Storm Grunt has a great foundation to build on. SoG you should look into this mod for a few ideas, many others have ;)

'Immortality' to replace 'Longievity', in the synthetic age.

I recommend Genetic Immortality, otherwise wars will be hard to fight. ;)

Suggestion: Check out Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri for inspiration. That game had alot of great techs and unit concepts that you might be able to use here. Also, you wouldn't be so Mecha-heavy.
