DBear02--Jerusalem

#2 is a good site, but #1 is totally useless. The incense is at distance 1 to the american city, so we would have to build at distance 1 too and overtake them in culture.

#2 will not be taken bei India, because this would mean a too tight spacing. So I suggest building the next city close to the two flood plains and the cow and a second city between this one and the capital.

The incense and other luxies have to be taken by force, I suppose.

DBear02--Jerusalem:

0) 1050: Both settlers move to ese of Snottingham. MM Lil' Jerusalem to move worker from grassland to forest to speed Pyramids along.

1) 1025: Indian settler pair shows up on hill by coast. Where are they going? Settlers move se. Warrior moves w to city site.

2) 1000: Hastings built, starts rax. Other settler moves s. We see another settler pair. Can we win the race? Change York from settler to worker, we need more workers.

3) 975: Indian settler pair we saw earlier heads n along the peninsula. York worker-->warrior. MM so York can build it in 2, building it for MP, so York can later expand to 4 w/o rioting. Workers move s to connect Hastings.

4) 950: Settler moves to city site. Workers move.

5) 925: Bismarck demands 25, he's on the other side of the continent so we tell him no. He declares. York warrior-->spear. Canterbury built, starts rax. Warrior moves from Snottingham and York to help defend Canterbury.

6) 900: Worker e of Lil' Jerusalem mines, starts roading. Warrior reaches Hastings, will move on.

7) 875: Learn Lit, switch to Law, which no one has yet. It will take us 19 to get law, but 9 for the GL. I decide to hang on to the lit monopoly. If the Germans show up, we can bribe our neighbors to fight him.

8) 850: Hastings connected, start roading to Canterbury.

9) 825: York spear-->settler.

10) 800: Nothing happening.

To do list: Reinforce Canterbury. After York pops a settler, have it build spears. After Jerusalem builds GLib, have it build lib. Next city site should be w of cow 4se of Jerusalem. Worker is building a road there. Remember, Germany declared on us. If they start showing up, bribe neighbors to fight w/Lit, but keep the Lit monopoly as long as possible so we can get the GL.

I would like to thank everyone for keeping this one moving. :goodjob: My first game almost died due to dropouts and inactivity.

Suggestions: stop researching at once. We do need the money later for rushing a colosseum, cath and uni in Jerusalem, and possibly for bribing others to fight the germans for us.

BTW, even if the germans are on the other side of the continent, they will eventually reach us. Even a lone scouting warrior can cause havoc. Or the germans buy another nation in. For a mere 25 gp I'd never risk a war at that stage of the game.

Hello DBear & Co.

Just wishing you all a "good luck"! OK, and a thought or two.

One advantage to making a non-capitol 20k city is the ability to pre-build w/ a palace. But I still think you made the right call with this one.

The only reason I see to keep researching is if you think the money invested will pay bigger dividends in trades. I just thought of another... If you want to advance the research rate to get to Cathedrals and Universities more quickly. The other way of doing that is being a shrewd trader of the other Civ's techs.

MV - Skip me, I'm gone until late Tuesday night.

Well it’s been 63 hours since DBear posted his game and Aegis Shield hasn’t picked it up so does this mean its Leha’s now?

Roster:

I can play tonight, so if Aegis will not reply till then, I'll play my turns in next 8 hours.

Erhm...Been partying every day since Friday. :twitch:

SAVE

Turn 0, 590 BC:
Switch York to settler, Coventry to rax.

IBT:
York cat -> cat

Turn 1, 570 BC:
...

IBT:
CoL in, we enter the middle ages.
Set research to Republic at min. More ain't too useful. We have to run deficit spending even

to get down to 45 turns.
Hastings rax -> archer

Turn 2, 550 BC:
...

IBT:
Jerusalem lib -> Mausoleum
York riots. I put a clown there. This allows us to lower lux tax and raise science to 70%

running a small deficit. Rep in 30.

Turn 4, 530 BC:
...

IBT:
Dammit. Hastings riots. No wonder as there is no MP.

Turn 5, 510 BC:
...

IBT:
TGL brings us Monarchy. I decide to stay in Despotism. Every turn of anarchy costs us

culture.

Turn 6, 490 BC:
...

IBT:
Canterbury rax -> worker

Turn 7, 470 BC:
...

Turn 8, 450 BC:
...

IBT:
York settler -> settler
Snottingham archer -> archer

Turn 9, 430 BC:
...

Turn 10, 410 BC:
Lux to 30% due to pop growth in Jerusalem.

Suggestions:

In the south are several good city sites. I marked them on a dotmap.

A few more archers should suffice to take San Francisco. Hopefully the indians won't finish first. Don't get into a longer war. I won 20k games without a single shot.

We should either build Mausolos or the Gardens in Jerusalem. The Gardens are a bit more risky.

Squeeze some workers out of the food rich cities to join Jerusalem. We don't have to wait for it growing to size 12 all by itself. Squeeze more workers out to improve. We are low on workers all in all.

We should slow down research for a few turns to min after we got Republic. The AI usually researches the lower path of the tech tree in the middle ages as long as they don't get Mono via trade or science perk bonus. This will give us a chance to get those techs for free while keeping Mono and especially Theology for Sistine and maybe breaking the wonder cascade before it reaches Bach and Copernicus, one of which should be ours along with Sistine. Personally I'd go for Bach, because we will face some lack of luxuries.

THE SAVE

Agreed, those city sites to the south are nice. Are we still at war with the Germans? Mausoleum is the safer bet, it seems the AI rarely goes for it. The Gardens would be better overall, though.

I'm back and catching up. Will be ready for my turn after MV.

Lurker's comment...

You got Mon w/ a SGL so you may be far ahead of the curve here. This could give you many turns of sheilds prior to any other civ even starting the Hanging Gardens. Granted that the AI does go after this tech but if you're sole owner of Monarchy at this time I would go for it. Delurk...

We got Monarchy by TGL, so obviously we are not the sole owners. Others started on the Gardens already.

I'd definitely not switch to Monarchy. This will be another 5 or so turns where we don't produce a single culture point. Plus MoM is 12 turns from finishing, Tge Gardens 20.

I thought I got that wrong as I was under the impression SGL's had been turned off for this game. Maybe you can capture the HG's and move them to your culture city brick by brick. :)

I'll be quiet now. :p
